The testosterone shortage answer depends on the source. When we searched FDA’s live current and resolved U.S. drug-shortage table for “testosterone,” we found 0 entries on September 3, 2026. ASHP still maintained 2 active testosterone records: a cypionate injection shortage bulletin and a no-commercially-available patch bulletin. Across their 16 NDC-coded product rows, 9 were available, 5 were affected, and 2 were discontinued.
Headline finding: On September 3, 2026, FDA’s live national current/resolved table had 0 testosterone entries. ASHP still tracked two active testosterone records. Of 16 exact product rows in those records, 9 were listed available, 5 affected by backorder, and 2 discontinued. These are equal-weight NDC row counts, not supply volume, market share, or live pharmacy stock.
The useful twist is vial size. Four of the five affected cypionate rows were 10 mL vials, but ASHP also listed four other 10 mL vials as available. The maker, product, strength, package, and National Drug Code all change the answer.

Testosterone shortage 2026: what the data shows—and what it does not show
This dataset is a dated official-record snapshot. It is not a view inside every pharmacy. On September 3, 2026, 9 of 16 exact product rows were listed available, but the data cannot show warehouse counts or whether one patient could fill a prescription that day.

The available-row share is 9 ÷ 16, or 56.25%. That figure is only a row share. A 1 mL vial and a 10 mL vial each count once, so 56.25% must not be read as “56.25% of U.S. testosterone supply was available.”
How did we build the testosterone shortage dataset?
We opened 18 direct official or issuing-body pages: five current-status pages, two definition pages, five ASHP history pages, and six official Pfizer product pages. We then normalized every active NDC row into one 16-row table and kept a separate six-record history so current product status would not be mixed with old events.

What counts as one row
One row equals one NDC-coded product presentation. A different strength, vial size, package, brand, manufacturer, or labeler NDC becomes a different row.
The active dataset includes every NDC shown in the two active ASHP testosterone records on September 3, 2026:
- 14 cypionate injection rows
- 2 transdermal patch rows
- 16 rows total
It does not try to list every testosterone medicine on the U.S. market.

How the page is updated
FDA says its shortage list is updated daily. Our update rule is to check FDA and ASHP each week. We also check when ASHP changes either active record, FDA adds or removes a testosterone entry, or an official manufacturer page changes status.
A real refresh changes the visible verification date, tables, calculated counts, downloadable files, dataset version, and dateModified field together. Re-dating the page without rechecking the sources would make the timestamp false.

Is there a testosterone shortage in the U.S. right now?
Not as an FDA-listed national shortage on September 3, 2026. FDA’s live current/resolved table showed 0 testosterone entries. ASHP still kept two active records, so some exact cypionate products remained affected and the patch record remained active.

Both answers can be true. FDA asks whether national supply meets national demand. A maker, package size, NDC, distributor, or local pharmacy can still have a smaller problem that does not meet FDA’s national test.
FDA says resolved shortages stay on its public page for six months. So the zero count is a live-table snapshot, not an all-time history claim.
Which testosterone products are affected or available?
ASHP’s two active testosterone records contained 16 exact NDC rows on September 3, 2026. Five cypionate rows were affected, nine cypionate rows were available, and two Androderm patch rows were discontinued with no patch row listed as available.

Are 10 mL testosterone vials the main problem?
Four of the five affected cypionate rows—80% of the affected row count—were 10 mL vials. Yet ASHP also listed four other 10 mL cypionate rows as available, making the eight 10 mL rows an even 4 affected / 4 available split.

The 10 mL pattern is useful, but it is not enough by itself. The affected 10 mL rows came from Pfizer and Eugia US. The available 10 mL rows came from Hikma, Padagis, and Pfizer’s generic label, so the exact NDC matters more than vial size alone.
Which manufacturers have affected and available testosterone products?
Pfizer had the clearest split: three branded Depo-Testosterone rows were affected, while three Pfizer generic cypionate rows were available. Eugia US also had a mixed record, with two affected 10 mL rows and one available 1 mL row.

ASHP also said Cipla stopped a 200 mg/mL 10 mL vial in 2022. It said Sun Pharma stopped testosterone cypionate in late 2023. These facts add context, but those products are not separate rows in the 16-row active dataset because ASHP did not list their NDCs in the affected or available sections.
What did Pfizer’s own product pages show?
We opened six official Pfizer product pages on September 3, 2026. They matched ASHP row for row: the three branded Depo-Testosterone NDCs were shown as depleted, while the three Pfizer generic cypionate NDCs were shown as available.

A manufacturer-page status is still not store inventory. It tells us what the maker showed for that NDC, not what every wholesaler or pharmacy had on hand.
Why do FDA and ASHP give different testosterone shortage answers?
FDA showed 0 testosterone entries, while ASHP maintained 2 active records on the same date. That does not make either source wrong. FDA uses a national supply-and-demand test, while ASHP can keep a record active when exact products still disrupt pharmacy work or patient care.

The cypionate record shows the difference in plain numbers. Nine rows were available, but five exact rows were still affected. FDA did not list a national shortage, while ASHP still tracked the product-level problem.
What is causing the testosterone cypionate supply problem?
The current record gives one named cause for three affected NDCs: Pfizer reported delays in manufacturing Depo-Testosterone. Eugia US had two affected 10 mL NDCs, but ASHP said no reason was given. The evidence does not support one cause for every affected product.

The current source record does not tie telehealth growth, raw-material limits, demand spikes, or federal quotas to these five NDCs. We did not use any of them as causes.
What happened to the testosterone patch?
ASHP listed two Androderm patch NDCs as discontinued and listed no testosterone transdermal-system product as available. Allergan, now part of AbbVie, was the sole supplier named in the bulletin. ASHP records these rows as discontinued, not backordered, and gives no return date.

This finding is narrow. It applies to the Androderm patch record. It does not mean all testosterone gels, injections, pellets, nasal products, or oral products are unavailable.
When will the testosterone shortage end?
No single end date was published for the five affected cypionate rows. Pfizer had not given a return date for its three Depo-Testosterone NDCs. Eugia US said its two affected 10 mL NDCs were on intermittent backorder and that product would be released as it became available.

A real end point will need a new source update. It should not be guessed from the age of the bulletin, a pharmacy estimate, or the status of a different NDC.
Has testosterone been in shortage before?
ASHP’s current and resolved indexes contain six testosterone-related records that we could map: two active and four resolved. They span cypionate and enanthate injections, a patch, 2% gel, and pellets. One old cypionate record contains a source-date conflict that changes its calculated span.

Why are two dates shown for the older cypionate record?
ASHP’s older cypionate detail page says the record was created May 8, 2013. ASHP’s resolved index says May 27, 2015. Both pages show a November 6, 2016 resolution or revision date.
Using the detail-page date gives 1,278 days. Using the index date gives 529 days. We kept both and did not invent one “correct” duration.
Why can a pharmacy be out when FDA shows no national shortage?
A pharmacy can face a real local or product-level stock problem even when FDA shows 0 national testosterone entries. On the same September 3 snapshot, ASHP still listed five affected cypionate NDCs, which shows why the exact product and local supply path matter.

The strongest number on this page—9 available rows out of 16—is also easy to misuse. It is a count of exact product rows, not a measure of U.S. supply, and the snapshot cannot show live store stock, fill rates, demand, or how many patients were affected.

When will the testosterone cypionate shortage end?
No single end date was published. Pfizer had no stated return date for three affected Depo-Testosterone rows, while Eugia US said it would release product from two affected 10 mL NDCs as it became available.
Why does my pharmacy say testosterone is on backorder when FDA does not?
FDA measures nationwide supply against nationwide demand. A pharmacy, wholesaler, maker, package size, or NDC can have a narrower shortage even when the national market is considered covered.
Is all testosterone unavailable?
No. Nine of the 16 rows in the two active ASHP records were listed available, while five were affected and two patch rows were discontinued.
