The best AlphaMD alternatives depend on why you're leaving. Already diagnosed and paying cash? Male Excel is our pick for its published follow-up schedule, with a $2,727 annualized injection subtotal before shipping. For confirmation testing, compare Hone; for price, AlphaMD or TRT Nation. Fertility, insurance, and an unconfirmed diagnosis can change the care route.

Best for: U.S. adult men comparing a change in testosterone-deficiency care. Not for you if: you need a first diagnosis from this page, a guaranteed prescription, or a program chosen without considering fertility, medical risks and state access. The clinical framework here is not a guide to gender-affirming care or nonmedical testosterone use.
The provider fit calls below are editorial judgments about published service features, not findings that one clinic delivers better medical care. Price and care details · Male Excel pricing · Hone Plus
We checked AlphaMD alternatives the unglamorous way: their own price pages, terms, refund policies and lab schedules, all on September 22, 2026. Three things surprised us. The cheapest-looking price isn't the cheapest year. One provider's written refund policy contradicts its own sales page. And one date — December 31, 2026 — is worth asking about before you prepay for online prescribing. It's all below, starting with the fastest way to find your fit.
| If you want… | Look at | Skip it if… |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled provider reviews and included follow-up labs | Male Excel | Price, insurance, pharmacy choice, or a clearly documented first-diagnosis workup comes first |
| A published confirmation-testing process before a first TRT prescription | Hone Health | You want medication bundled into one price |
| A lower published treatment price with medication included | Stay with AlphaMD or compare TRT Nation | You are comparing headline prices without the cost of appropriate monitoring |
| A lab-center draw and an advertised bundled price | Taurus Meds, after a written quote | You need its fee and refund conflicts resolved before deciding |
| Insurance or a specific FDA-approved testosterone product | An in-network primary care clinician, urologist or endocrinologist | The practice or prescribed product is outside your plan; ask whether visits can be online |
| To have children now or soon | A reproductive urologist | A general TRT subscription would replace a fertility-focused evaluation |

TRT Provider Guide is the independent decision resource for testosterone replacement therapy — helping U.S. adults understand how low testosterone is evaluated, compare online and local care models and providers, and choose the next step that fits their health needs, fertility plans, budget, state, and care preferences, with every material claim verified and dated.
This page is educational information, not medical advice. It doesn't diagnose low testosterone or decide whether you qualify for treatment. Chest pain, trouble breathing, or signs of a stroke need emergency care. A newly painful, swollen leg needs urgent medical assessment; call 911 if it occurs with chest pain or trouble breathing. AlphaMD alternatives at a glance: starting-price subtotals, not complete quotes

|---|---|---|---|---|
| AlphaMD (your baseline) | $1,225–$1,597 with a $49 startup assumption | Yes, within the quoted plan | Q&A calls testing optional; treatment page describes ongoing lab monitoring. | Male Excel | $2,727 injections / $2,871 cream, before shipping and other unpriced charges | No — $99/month membership plus the advertised medication package | Advertises a full panel every 6 months and provider review every 60 days | No contract; conditional 90-day membership-fee guarantee, not a refund of all treatment costs. How we got these numbers is in the full cost ledger below. Every price comes from the provider's own page, checked September 22, 2026. These are starting-price models, not interchangeable all-in quotes. AlphaMD's existing patients should not count an already-paid startup fee again. A clinician's monitoring plan still matters even when a provider markets testing as optional. AlphaMD testing article · Current kit · Monitoring guidance
What we actually verified: Each provider's own pricing, plan and terms pages; refund and cancellation policies; published lab schedules; plus the Endocrine Society's guidance, FDA information, the Federal Register and prescribing information — checked September 22, 2026. We verified what the pages say, not that each service is delivered as advertised. We did not buy treatment, open accounts, or test customer support, so this is a comparison, not a hands-on review. Anything we couldn't confirm is named, not guessed. Full details below.
Already on TRT and want scheduled follow-up? Male Excel is where we'd start comparing — provided its price, compounded-treatment model and pharmacy limits fit. Review Male Excel's state limits and refill process → Its published exclusions cover 11 states. A listed state is not a promise of an appointment or prescription; the clinician must review your history and monitoring needs.
The right TRT provider is not the same for every person — it depends on whether low testosterone has been properly evaluated, your symptoms and health history, your fertility plans, your state, your insurance or cash-pay preference, your treatment-format preference, your budget, and whether online or in-person care is the better starting point. Some situations belong with primary care, urology, endocrinology, reproductive urology, or urgent or emergency care when the symptoms warrant it. Because a general answer cannot resolve those for you, use TRT Provider Guide's Find My TRT Path tool to map your situation to the right care route and the questions to ask before you pay.
Map the care route that fits your situation → Educational guidance — not a diagnosis or a prescription decision.
Which AlphaMD alternatives fit your reason for leaving?
The reason you want to leave matters more than a clinic's overall rank. More lab checks, a steadier provider relationship, no needles, no multi-month commitment, a move, or a fertility or insurance need each points to a different comparison.
Find your reason. Then jump to that section.
| Your reason for leaving | What AlphaMD publishes | Best-fit comparison | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| "I want my labs checked regularly without paying extra." | Q&A describes testing as optional; treatment page describes ongoing monitoring, without a fixed schedule | Male Excel advertises a full panel every 6 months; Hone publishes tests at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months | Both cost more per month; confirm which tests are included and how abnormal results are handled |
| "I want the same provider, on a schedule." | Follow-up visits included; a fixed ongoing review interval is not clear in the checked pages | Male Excel advertises a review every 60 days and provider continuity | That continuity promise is Male Excel's word; ask about it |
| "I want to get off needles." | Its treatment page mainly describes injections; ask about other available formats and prices | Male Excel cream or Hone cream/troche; Taurus advertises gel but its product descriptions need clarification | Creams and gels can transfer testosterone to others through skin contact; a troche is not a skin product. Discuss household exposure with the clinician |
| "I don't want to be locked in." | 3-month minimum; best advertised rate needs 12 months paid up front | Male Excel advertises no contract; Hone permits membership cancellation | Cancelling isn't the same as getting money back |
| "My dose or add-ons raised my price." | Price may change with the prescription; hCG is separately priced | Ask each alternative for the price at your prescribed dose, in writing | Do not assume all providers price by dose or that an advertised bundle covers every prescription |
| "I moved, or AlphaMD doesn't serve my state." | No complete TRT state list was located in the checked pages | Compare the published state restrictions below | A company's state list does not verify your assigned clinician's authority |
| "I want insurance or an FDA-approved product." | Cash-pay; terms allow partner pharmacies, including compounders, and sometimes a pharmacy of choice | An in-network primary care clinician, urologist or endocrinologist | Confirm the exact product and pharmacy; online care is not inherently limited to compounded drugs |
| "I want to keep the option of having kids." | Markets hCG and other add-ons to active TRT patients | A reproductive urologist first | An add-on offer is not proof that fertility will be preserved |
| "I never had my low T properly confirmed." | Offers a home hormone test kit | Hone's published confirmation process, or a cause-focused evaluation with your own clinician | Two properly timed tests are part of an initial evaluation, not a do-it-yourself diagnosis or a rule to stop existing treatment |
| "I just want to pay less." | $98/month equivalent on the annual plan, medication included | Stay, or compare TRT Nation | Compare appropriate monitoring, commitment and actual payments—not just the headline |

What would rule an option out fast? Your state isn't served. You're trying to conceive. You need insurance or a specific FDA-approved product. Your diagnosis was never confirmed. Or you need a refund safety net that the provider's written terms don't offer.

What does AlphaMD actually cost?
AlphaMD charges $98 a month on a 12-month prepaid plan, $109 a month on a 6-month plan, or $129 a month paid monthly with a 3-month minimum — and those prices include testosterone and supplies. Its cost article lists a $49 first visit and test; extra testing, higher-dose pricing and add-ons need their own quote. Plans · Cost article
This is your baseline. Any alternative has to beat it on something that matters to you.
| AlphaMD plan | Monthly rate | How you pay | Minimum term | Military, veteran and first-responder price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Annual | $98 | $1,176 up front | 12 months | $78.40/month equivalent |
| Every 6 months | $109 | $654 per 6 months | 6 months | $87.20/month equivalent |
| Monthly | $129 | Monthly | 3 months | $103.20/month |
What's included: testosterone, supplies and follow-up provider visits. The flat price covers testosterone only up to a set weekly amount; higher doses cost more. AlphaMD's Q&A also includes shipping in its advertised plan. Pricing · Plan inclusions
What costs extra, per AlphaMD's own pages:
- Extra lab tests: the cost article lists $49, but the current shop lists a $50 basic testosterone kit. These pages do not establish the cost of every test in a complete monitoring panel. Article · Kit
- hCG: $300 for a 10,000-unit vial, per AlphaMD's Q&A and current product page. This is not testosterone replacement and not proof of fertility protection. Product and price
- ED medication: its shop describes a Cost Plus Drugs arrangement, plus a $30 provider fee per new prescription or refill request. Shop
- Add-on medicines (like hCG or gonadorelin): its current shop requires an active TRT subscription. Shop
The medical distinction: AlphaMD's Q&A calls testing optional, but its treatment page describes ongoing monitoring of testosterone, red blood cell markers and other labs. These pages do not settle your required schedule or complete testing bill. Ask the clinician to write both down; optional-testing marketing is not medical advice to skip checks. The Endocrine Society recommends hematocrit testing before treatment, at 3–6 months and then yearly, with care adjusted to the patient. Q&A · Treatment page · Monitoring guidance
The fine print that matters if you're leaving (AlphaMD Terms, updated September 19, 2026):
- Services are cash-pay. AlphaMD doesn't guarantee HSA/FSA eligibility.
- Sales are final, with narrow exceptions and any rights that applicable law preserves. Its membership refund condition is cancellation within 72 hours with no services requested or rendered. Terms, cancellation and refunds
- Your renewal cutoff is shown at checkout or in your account. The terms use "48 hours before renewal" as an example, so check yours.
- Prescriptions may be filled by partner pharmacies, including compounding pharmacies. The terms also allow a pharmacy of your choice depending on the program and location, and lawful transfers subject to the stated limits. Terms, prescriptions and fulfillment
AlphaMD also advertises a switcher offer for people coming from other TRT clinics: a $5 first visit and $50 off the first month with code SWITCH2026. Worth knowing if you're still shopping, but it is not a renewal discount for an existing AlphaMD patient. The calculation below uses the standard $49 startup assumption, not an untested promotion. Offer and eligibility terms
What will AlphaMD alternatives cost in your first year?
At the published starting rates, the annualized subtotals run from $1,225–$1,597 for AlphaMD with a $49 startup assumption to $2,727–$2,871 for Male Excel before shipping and other unpriced charges. These are not complete, equivalent first-year quotes: Hone excludes medication, Taurus has unresolved fee terms, and TRT Nation's lab and 2.5-month purchase costs need to be counted. AlphaMD · Male Excel · Hone · TRT Nation · Taurus
Here's the full ledger. Nothing unknown is counted as zero. Annualized means multiplying a published monthly equivalent by 12; it does not promise the same amount will leave your bank account in the next 365 days. These are new-enrollment comparison scenarios, with no optional add-ons or assumed discounts. An existing AlphaMD patient should compare only future costs in the worksheet below.
| Option | How we calculated the annualized subtotal | Subtotal | What is not settled by that number |
|---|---|---|---|
| AlphaMD, annual | $49 visit + $1,176 | $1,225 | Extra monitoring, prescription changes and add-ons; confirm the startup offer. Sources and startup |
| AlphaMD, 6-month | $49 + ($654 × 2) | $1,357 | Same exclusions. Sources and testing |
| AlphaMD, monthly | $49 + ($129 × 12) | $1,597 | Same exclusions. Sources and shop |
| TRT Nation, first-panel subtotal | $129 first panel + ($99.99 × 12) | $1,328.88 | Follow-up labs, whole 2.5-month purchases, California pricing and any individualized charges. Plan · Labs |
| TRT Nation, three-panel model | ($129 × 3) + ($99.99 × 12) | $1,586.88 | Assumes all three panels are bought at $129; not a quote for every transfer or clinician-ordered test. Whole purchases still change cash paid. Labs |
| Hone Health Plus | $45 first test + $45, $50 or $80 confirmation + ($135 × 12) | $1,710 / $1,715 / $1,745 | All medication; the two at-lab prices conflict. Cream at the posted $60 monthly estimate adds $720 over 12 months; injections are priced per vial. Plan · Lab prices |
| Taurus Meds | $49 test and visit + ($149 × 12) | $1,837 conditional | Assumes the rate holds, required follow-up costs are included and no separate fee applies. If the $17.99 fee applies monthly, the same model becomes $2,052.88. Offer · Terms |
| Male Excel, advertised injection package | $99 visit/test + ($99 membership + $120 medication) × 12 | $2,727 | Shipping/handling, any tax or extra testing, price changes, and actual refill dates. The price card includes a thyroid tablet, not testosterone alone. Pricing · Terms |
| Male Excel, advertised cream package | $99 + ($99 + $132) × 12 | $2,871 | Same exclusions and thyroid-package issue. Pricing |

Why the lowest monthly number isn't always the cheapest year
- AlphaMD's $98 only exists if you pay $1,176 up front.
- TRT Nation's $99.99 starts with a 2.5-month minimum purchase; its own labs are separately priced, and it accepts qualifying outside reports. Its current price page warns that California pricing may differ. Ask for the price of both the first purchase and later refills. Pricing · Labs and refills
- Hone's $28 testosterone is priced per vial, not per month. How long a vial lasts depends on your prescription, so ask Hone for your yearly vial count. Also ask about the vial's discard date and any unused medicine, rather than estimating cost only from its volume. Medication pricing
- Male Excel describes both 60-day supplies and every-other-month billing. At the starting injection-package price, a shipment is $240, separate from the $99 monthly membership. That is $339 if both charges fall in the same month, before shipping and any other fees—not a smooth $219 payment each month. Pricing
- Taurus's $149 is advertised as bundled, but its sales page doesn't settle how long that rate is locked in or whether the general terms' $17.99 fee applies. Offer · Terms
The payment-calendar check most monthly comparisons miss
TRT Nation: five 2.5-month purchases cover 12.5 months. At the published $99.99 monthly equivalent, that is about $1,249.88 for treatment. Add three purchased $129 panels and the model is about $1,636.88 paid for treatment and those labs, before any different California or individual price. Each purchase is subject to the actual checkout amount and rounding. Refills require a request; they are not automatic. Pricing · Refill terms
Male Excel: six every-other-calendar-month medication purchases reproduce the $2,727 injection and $2,871 cream subtotals. If your actual refill calendar instead bills on day 0 and every 60 days through day 360, seven purchases would fall within 365 days. With 12 membership payments and the $99 start, that scenario is $2,967 for injections or $3,135 for cream, before shipping and other unpriced charges; the last fill also supplies part of the next year. These are calendar scenarios, not observed charges. Ask for the actual billing dates. Pricing language
For any option, the useful total is: startup + every membership payment + every medication purchase + required labs and visits + shipping and other disclosed charges − confirmed discounts or refunds. If one required amount is unknown, the full quote is still unknown. Our TRT cost guide explains how to compare the separate bills.
The honest trade-off with our top pick
Male Excel does not compete on price. Its starting injection package plus membership is $90 a month more than AlphaMD's $129 monthly plan. The annualized subtotals above differ by $1,130 to $1,502, before the missing costs and differences in monitoring. If the lowest bill is your priority, compare AlphaMD and TRT Nation first, and you can skip to when to stay with AlphaMD. AlphaMD pricing · Male Excel pricing
Male Excel's separate membership buys a published structure: a provider review every 60 days, a full lab panel every six months, and a conditional 90-day guarantee covering membership fees. If you're leaving AlphaMD because you want someone watching your numbers on a schedule, that's the thing you're paying for—not proof of better outcomes. The guarantee does not refund medication, the initial consultation, shipping or every other charge. Published membership and guarantee
If that published check-in schedule fits what you're missing, see Male Excel's current pricing and what membership includes →
What would switching actually cost you from today?
Money you cannot recover is a sunk cost, but unused prepaid care still matters: switching may mean paying a second provider while giving up service you've already bought. Compare only new charges and confirmed refunds from today forward, then record any prepaid care you would forfeit separately. AlphaMD's written refund rules do not promise a refund of unused prepaid months. Terms

AlphaMD vs Male Excel: is hands-on care worth paying more for?
Male Excel charges a $99 one-time consult and test, a required $99 monthly membership, and separate medication starting at $120 a month equivalent for its advertised injection package or $132 for cream, plus shipping. Its homepage advertises unlimited provider access, a review every 60 days, and a full lab panel every six months; the price cards also include a thyroid tablet. Male Excel does not serve Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire or Rhode Island. Pricing · Membership and states
Pick Male Excel if you want its published check-in schedule and accept the higher bill. This fit call is for an already-evaluated, cash-pay patient who accepts its compounded-treatment and pharmacy model; it is not a claim that its initial testing is more complete than the alternatives.
What Male Excel says you get:
- Structure: a provider review every 60 days and a full hormone and health panel every six months, both advertised as included in the membership. Ask for the actual markers and collection method. Membership
- Access: unlimited provider access and messaging. Male Excel says care stays with one provider—that's its promise, so ask how it works during leave, after hours and urgent situations. No response-time test was performed. Care model
- Formats: it advertises daily under-the-skin injections or twice-daily cream. Male Excel calls this daily microdosing. It's their approach, not evidence in this comparison of an advantage over other schedules or instructions to change your own treatment. Advertised formats
- Lab: Male Excel describes its affiliated North Carolina laboratory as CLIA-certified. We did not independently verify its current certificate or the laboratory assigned to a patient. CLIA concerns laboratory standards; it is not approval of a treatment protocol. Lab description
- Named leadership: its site lists Peter Fotinos, MD, and Lorna A. Brudie, DO. That does not identify or verify the license of the clinician who would treat you. Leadership
- Flexibility: it advertises no contract and pause options. Get the billing effect and clinical continuity plan in writing; a subscription pause is not a medical instruction to pause testosterone. Pricing
- Guarantee: Male Excel advertises a refund of three months of membership fees ($297) if its stated 90-day conditions are met. Medication, the initial consultation and shipping are not the membership fee. This is a commercial promise, not a guarantee that treatment will help. Guarantee
- Payment: no insurance. Male Excel says you may be able to use FSA, HSA or HRA funds; confirm eligibility with your plan administrator. Payment terms
Questions to ask Male Excel before you pay:
- "Is the thyroid tablet required?" Every TRT price card on Male Excel's pricing page includes a thyroid tablet, while its homepage says thyroid support is given when clinically appropriate. Ask what separate diagnosis supports it, whether testosterone alone is an option, and what that would cost. Price cards · Homepage
- "Will you review the required evaluation before prescribing?" Male Excel's homepage says providers may prescribe before new lab results arrive when they judge it appropriate. If you're switching with recent AlphaMD labs, send them. For a first diagnosis, symptoms alone are not enough: the clinician should establish consistently low results with appropriate repeat morning testing and assess the cause before a treatment decision. Published process · Diagnostic guidance
- "Will you check my hematocrit before I start?" The at-home kit lists five markers—total testosterone, estradiol, DHEA-S, free T3 and PSA—but not hematocrit. That omission does not prove it is never checked through another order; ask which baseline and repeat tests are required and included. The Endocrine Society's monitoring guidance includes hematocrit before treatment. Kit · Monitoring guidance
- "What happens if an in-person exam becomes required?" Male Excel's own site says DEA and state laws may require one. More on that below. Provider FAQ
- "Can I use my own pharmacy, and how do I stop a refill?" Male Excel's terms restrict prescriptions to contracted pharmacies. Its FAQ describes a 48-hour action window after the renewal reminder, before treatment is billed and shipped; medication sales are final under its stated policy. Ask separately how membership cancellation takes effect and how to obtain your records. Pharmacy terms · Refill and sales policy
Choose something else if price comes first (compare staying with AlphaMD), your state is excluded (check the other programs' actual lists), you need insurance or your own pharmacy (start with an in-network clinician), or you're trying to conceive (see a reproductive urologist). A first-time patient who wants a clearly published confirmation process should compare Hone or a cause-focused evaluation with their own clinician.
One household detail not to miss: Male Excel's terms say its partner pharmacies do not ship medication in child-resistant packaging. Ask about packaging and safe storage before a shipment, especially if children could access it. Prescription fulfillment terms
Does that sound like your situation? Review Male Excel's assessment and care process → The assessment is not a diagnosis, and the $297 membership guarantee is not a refund of the full cost of treatment.
AlphaMD vs Hone Health: do you want a published confirmation process?
Hone's Plus plan starts with a $45 at-home test of eight markers, then a live video visit with a licensed Hone physician. For men being evaluated for a first TRT prescription, its published process includes a confirmatory test that adds hematocrit, PSA and prolactin. Membership is $135 a month with follow-up labs and visits included; medication is billed separately, with testosterone injections starting at $28 per vial. Plus plan
Pick Hone if you want its initial testing and confirmation steps laid out before you pay. Those published steps are useful evidence of process, not proof of better medical care; proper evaluation belongs at every provider. A clinician may handle an existing TRT transfer differently. Plan · Diagnostic guidance
How Hone's process works (Hone help center, updated September 2026):
| Step | What happens | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1. First test | At-home kit: total and free testosterone, SHBG, albumin, LH, estradiol, and two liver enzymes | $45 |
| 2. Physician visit | Live video visit to review results | Included in the published enrollment process; confirm when membership billing starts |
| 3. Confirmatory test for initial TRT evaluation | Second total testosterone, plus prolactin, PSA and hematocrit | $45 or $50 at a lab (Hone's pages disagree); $80 at home |
| 4. Membership | Medication management, follow-up labs and visits; medication extra | $135/month |
Plan and process · Confirmation prices · Membership terms.
A few terms, in plain English: LH (luteinizing hormone) is the signal your brain sends your testes to make testosterone. SHBG is a protein that holds testosterone in your blood. Prolactin is a pituitary hormone that can lower testosterone when it's high. Hematocrit is the share of your blood made of red blood cells, which TRT can push up. PSA, or prostate-specific antigen, is measured in a blood test used in prostate assessment; it is not, by itself, a cancer diagnosis. Clinical guidance and monitoring
Hone's published lab schedule once you're on TRT:
| When | What's checked in the published TRT schedule |
|---|---|
| 3 months | Total and free testosterone, SHBG, albumin and estradiol |
| 6 months | Same, plus hematocrit and PSA |
| 9 months | Total and free testosterone, SHBG, albumin and estradiol |
| 12 months | Same, plus liver enzymes, hematocrit and PSA |
| 18 months | Total and free testosterone, SHBG, albumin, estradiol, hematocrit and PSA |
Hone says your physician may change this schedule based on your medicines and results. Ask how the transfer date, your last testing and any abnormal result change the next test due. Published lab schedule
Medication prices (Hone's estimates, billed separately): testosterone injection from $28 per vial; testosterone cream $60 a month; testosterone troche (dissolves in the mouth) $60 a month. Hone labels its cream and troche as compounded but does not identify the injection's exact manufacturer and approval status on this price list—ask which your vial is. The plan advertises free shipping. Medication and shipping details
The current membership number: Hone's September 17, 2026 terms list $1,620 a year, paid as $135 monthly installments. Use that current posted number, not $129, when requesting a quote; the page's update date alone does not prove when any individual patient's rate changed. Membership breakdown
How cancelling works — two separate clocks:
- Membership: cancel through Hone's cancellation form. It counts from the moment you submit it. If you're charged afterward, Hone says it refunds that charge. Its policy does not offer a prorated refund of a partly used month. Current cancellation policy
- Medication orders: request cancellation within 48 hours of the charge and before pharmacy processing. A filled or processed prescription is not covered by that pending-order window. Cancelling membership does not automatically cancel a medication subscription, or vice versa. Current cancellation policy
- Not a candidate? If the physician decides treatment isn't appropriate after your first visit, Hone says it refunds your first $135 membership fee. That is not a promise to refund a test kit already shipped. Membership terms · Kit policy

AlphaMD vs TRT Nation: is it the closest match on price?
TRT Nation lists testosterone therapy at $99.99 a month equivalent with a 2.5-month minimum purchase, and says California pricing may differ. Labs are separate: its posted panel is $129, and its FAQ places follow-up labs at 10 weeks, six months after that test, then yearly. Pricing · Testing requirements
TRT Nation is the fair comparison for anyone leaving AlphaMD over price. The $1,328.88 annualized first-panel subtotal is not the whole monitored year: buying three $129 panels raises that model to $1,586.88, and five full 2.5-month treatment purchases plus those panels come to about $1,636.88. Compare that with your actual AlphaMD renewal and monitoring quote, not a claim that optional testing makes care equivalent. Calculation inputs and labs
Worth knowing:
- TRT Nation doesn't accept home finger-prick tests. It says a blood draw is needed so it can verify who took the test. Lab requirements
- You can bring your own labs or run them through TRT Nation. Confirm the required markers, acceptable dates and whether your existing reports qualify before paying. FAQ
- Its panel lists total testosterone, a complete blood count (CBC), a comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP), sensitive estradiol and PSA for men over 40. A CBC includes hemoglobin and hematocrit. Its advertised schedule is a program policy, not a substitute for your clinician's individual monitoring plan. Panel · CBC explanation
- It also advertises oral enclomiphene at $99.99 monthly and a TRT-plus-hCG package at $180 monthly equivalent. Enclomiphene and hCG are not testosterone replacement themselves, and adding hCG does not establish fertility protection. Current treatment prices · See the fertility section.
Ask before you pay: what follow-up labs cost, what your price will be after the first 2.5-month purchase, and which pharmacy fills your prescription. Its plan description includes an estrogen-lowering medicine; ask whether any add-on is needed for your own evaluation rather than assuming every bundled medicine should be used. Plan inclusions
Refill and refund limits: TRT Nation's policy says refills are not automatic; a patient must request them. Its FAQ allows refill requests from week eight and gives an initial delivery estimate of up to 10 business days after the consultation—not a guarantee for the entire transfer. Its written policy reserves a no-refund/no-return position on purchases. Refill and shipping FAQ · Policy

AlphaMD vs Taurus Meds: is the advertised flat price dependable?
Taurus advertises $49 for a Labcorp or Quest blood test and consult, then $149 a month for medication and care. Its terms mention a possible separate fee, and its written refund policy conflicts with the campaign's 90-day refund promise, so a predictable all-in price and refund safety net are not established. Offer · Terms · Refund policy
Put Taurus on a quote-first shortlist if a lab-center draw and bundled care appeal to you. Do not pick it for a predictable total or money-back promise until it resolves the conflicts in writing.
What Taurus says it offers:
- A Labcorp or Quest blood draw. It says it mails a free at-home kit when a patient lives more than 50 miles from a participating center. Confirm how any home test fits the clinician's required evaluation. Offer
- Testing to medication delivery in about 1–2 weeks on average. This is a provider estimate, not a verified delivery promise for a transfer. Offer
- Testosterone injections and testosterone gel. It also lists enclomiphene and an oral sermorelin product, which are not testosterone replacement. Repeated injection text under unrelated product cards means the exact formulation and directions cannot be established from those cards. Product descriptions
- Its terms name OpenLoop Health as a management-services partner, not as the identified treating medical group. They also name RedRock Pharmacy (Utah), Health Warehouse (Kentucky), Precision Compounding Pharmacy (New York) and Triad Rx (Alabama). Those disclosures do not verify which clinician or pharmacy would handle your order. Terms
- Its campaign page describes U.S.-compounded hormones, but that paragraph names another company's program. Ask for the exact preparation, approval status and dispensing pharmacy rather than treating the copied paragraph as a reliable product specification. Campaign wording
The fine print, in plain words:
- Refunds: Taurus's refund policy (updated February 28, 2026) denies refunds for cancellation except under its medical-disqualification provisions. Initial disqualification and a later disqualification have different refund language; its terms also exclude shipped medication and blood work from refunds. Refund policy · Terms
- The conflict: its sales page promises a refund for no results within 90 days, minus lab and pharmacy fees, while the refund policy says results are not guaranteed. Do not rely on either as a settled 90-day refund entitlement. Ask Taurus which terms apply to your order and save both pages and its written answer. This comparison cannot decide which term is legally enforceable. Campaign · Policy
- Cancel timing: your request must reach Taurus at least 72 hours before your billing date, or its policy says you will be charged one more cycle. Cancellation policy
- A fee question: the sales page says no membership fees, but Taurus's terms describe a recurring $17.99 membership fee per billing period unless otherwise stated at purchase. Ask whether it applies to this TRT offer and how long a billing period is. Offer · Subscription terms
Ask Taurus in writing before you pay:
- Does the $17.99 fee apply to my plan?
- How long is the $149 rate locked in, and what's the price after that?
- Which exact product, form and pharmacy will I get?
- Which medical practice treats me, and who holds my medical records? Taurus's platform terms say its services are not tailored to comply with HIPAA. That does not establish the legal status of every separate clinical record; request the treating practice's privacy notice, records process and secure communication channel. Terms
- What happens to my care, charges and any unused prepaid service if an in-person visit becomes required?
Choose something else if you need settled fee and refund terms now. Male Excel's advertised guarantee covers qualifying membership fees only, not every treatment charge; it is a different, narrower promise rather than a full-cost refund alternative. Male Excel guarantee
Before treating Taurus as a flat-rate alternative, compare its current offer with its refund policy and subscription terms. Get the answers above in writing before paying.
When should you stay with AlphaMD?
Stay if price is your main concern, your clinician and monitoring plan meet your needs, and the change you want can be made within your current care. AlphaMD's annual plan works out to $98 a month with medication included; its published military, veteran and first-responder rate is $78.40 a month equivalent with annual prepayment. Pricing
AlphaMD has concrete reasons to stay: included provider visits, a published military and first-responder discount, and a large question-and-answer library. Those features do not establish medical quality or a guaranteed response time. Plan · Questions and answers
Before you leave, ask AlphaMD for what you're missing. A clearer review schedule or a clinician-ordered monitoring panel might solve the problem for less than any switch. Its $49 article price and $50 shop kit are not proof that a complete blood count and every other needed test are included. Testing article · Kit
One caution before renewing: before prepaying care that extends into 2027, ask AlphaMD how it would handle any change in in-person evaluation requirements, clinical access and unused prepaid service. December 31, 2026 is the current federal extension's end date—not a confirmed shutdown date for online TRT. Here's why. Federal rule
Will your testosterone change if you switch?
It might, even if the name on the label stays the same. Several programs here describe compounded testosterone, which is not FDA-approved, while some pages do not identify the exact product clearly enough to establish its approval status. Ask any new provider for the exact product and pharmacy before you pay. FDA compounding guidance · Provider disclosures below
Compounded means a preparation made by combining, mixing or altering ingredients to meet a medical need. The FDA doesn't review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness or quality before they're marketed; FDA-approved status applies to a specific reviewed product, not a clinic or pharmacy. Testosterone requires a valid prescription and is a Schedule III controlled substance in the U.S. FDA · Testosterone prescribing information
| Option | Compounded testosterone or product details described | Is a specific FDA-approved product established by this offer? |
|---|---|---|
| AlphaMD | Q&A describes testosterone cypionate, commonly with grapeseed oil; terms allow compounding pharmacies. Q&A · Terms | No exact approved manufacturer/product is established for a reader's prescription; ask about the pharmacy-of-choice option |
| Male Excel | Homepage describes U.S.-compounded testosterone; injectable and cream packages are advertised. Homepage | No exact FDA-approved product is established; contracted-pharmacy restriction applies. Terms |
| Hone Health | Cream and troche are explicitly labeled compounded; the injection listing does not establish its exact manufacturer or approval status. Plan | Ask for the exact injection product; do not assume either status from the word cypionate |
| TRT Nation | Lists testosterone cypionate, but the checked offer does not identify the specific manufacturer/preparation. FAQ | Not established by the checked offer; pharmacy registration is not drug approval |
| Taurus Meds | Campaign describes compounded hormones but includes copied, conflicting product text. Offer | Not established by a reliable product specification; obtain a written answer |
A useful label comparison—not an approval shortcut: the FDA-approved Depo-Testosterone label checked here lists cottonseed oil and intramuscular use. A cypionate preparation with grapeseed oil is not that labeled formulation. The ingredient name, carrier oil or presence of an NDC number alone does not establish FDA approval; ask for the exact manufacturer and approved labeling, or written confirmation that it is compounded. A provider switch may not be a pharmacy switch
AlphaMD and Male Excel both publicly name AnazaoHealth in Tampa. That shared name does not mean the same medicine, the same formula or the same experience—and it does not establish where every patient is served. It does mean that a pharmacy problem is worth discussing separately from a clinic change. AlphaMD disclosure · Male Excel disclosure
| Provider | Pharmacy disclosure we could read | What still needs confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| AlphaMD | AnazaoHealth, Tampa, Florida | Pharmacy assigned to your order; whether its pharmacy-of-choice option applies. Disclosure · Terms |
| Male Excel | Anazao Health Corp., Tampa, and WellDyneRx-FL, Lakeland, Florida | Which partner fills the exact prescription; its terms do not allow an outside pharmacy. FAQ · Terms |
| Hone Health | Describes a partner pharmacy network; the checked sourcing article does not name the pharmacy for an individual prescription | Exact dispensing pharmacy, product and any outside-pharmacy option. Sourcing article |
| TRT Nation | Says prescriptions use U.S. pharmacies; the checked FAQ does not name the pharmacy for an individual prescription | Exact dispensing pharmacy and product before the order. FAQ |
| Taurus Meds | Names RedRock, Health Warehouse, Precision Compounding Pharmacy and Triad Rx | Actual dispenser and treating medical practice; a named partner is not a license audit. Terms |
Ask for the pharmacy's legal name and location, and verify its authority with the relevant state pharmacy board when you have the actual dispenser. None of the partner lists above is proof of an individual prescription's FDA status.
If you specifically want an FDA-approved product—or insurance to help pay for it—ask a clinician who can prescribe it to an appropriate pharmacy, then confirm coverage with your plan. An in-network practice is a useful starting point; it may offer telehealth as well as local visits. The insurance care route explains what to ask.
Will you need new blood tests?
Not necessarily. A new provider may accept your recent records or require different or repeat tests; TRT Nation explicitly accepts qualifying outside labs. For a first diagnosis, the Endocrine Society calls for symptoms or signs plus consistently low testosterone confirmed with appropriate repeat morning testing, and baseline safety checks are separate from the hormone number. Outside labs · Diagnostic guidance · Monitoring guidance
What the guidelines say:
- A low result is not a diagnosis by itself. The Endocrine Society's July 16, 2026 statement describes at least two early-morning, fasting testosterone tests and notes a common clinical threshold near 300 ng/dL. That is not a universal pass/fail rule; symptoms, the laboratory method and clinical context still matter. Hematocrit is part of the baseline safety assessment, not proof of low testosterone. Statement · Monitoring
- Endocrine Society clinical guideline: symptoms alone don't diagnose low testosterone. Diagnosis needs compatible symptoms or signs plus consistently low, accurately measured testosterone; free testosterone is assessed when indicated, not as a mandatory second abnormal marker for every patient. Clinicians should evaluate the cause, including contributors that may be reversible. Guideline · July 2026 statement
What each option says it tests:
| Option | Published initial testing | Hematocrit before TRT? | Published follow-up labs |
|---|---|---|---|
| AlphaMD | Treatment page lists possible hormone and safety markers, including CBC and hematocrit; basic home kit measures testosterone | Listed as a possible test, not confirmed as mandatory or included for every patient | Treatment page describes monitoring; Q&A calls testing optional. Confirm the required panel, dates and cost. Treatment page · Q&A · Kit |
| Male Excel | Finger-prick kit lists total testosterone, estradiol, DHEA-S, free T3 and PSA | Not listed in that kit; ask whether a separate order supplies it | Advertises full panel every 6 months; exact markers and extra-test charges need confirmation. Homepage |
| Hone Plus | Eight markers, then a confirmatory panel for initial TRT evaluation | Yes—listed in the confirmatory panel | 3, 6, 9, 12 and 18 months, with clinician adjustments. Plan · Schedule |
| TRT Nation | Blood draw: total testosterone, CBC, CMP, sensitive estradiol, and PSA over age 40; posted panel $129 | CBC includes hematocrit; confirm your clinician's baseline review | Week 10, six months after that test, then yearly. FAQ · CBC |
| Taurus Meds | Labcorp/Quest draw; full marker list not established by the checked offer | Not established by the offer; ask | Complete monitoring schedule not published in the checked offer. Offer |
If you're already on TRT: don't change or stop treatment on your own to get an untreated baseline. That's a decision for the clinician taking over your care. Bring your last two lab reports, any pretreatment diagnostic results and your current prescription, and let them decide what they need. A lab measured during treatment is not automatically a record of your untreated testosterone level.
The single most useful question for an initial evaluation: "How will you confirm low testosterone with repeat morning tests, assess its cause and check safety markers before deciding on treatment?" For a transfer: "Which of my prior results can you use, what new tests are needed, and who will review them?"
A high hematocrit, untreated severe sleep apnea, recent major cardiovascular event, concerning prostate history or suspected pituitary problem can change the appropriate care setting. Those need a clinician-led assessment, not a clinic chosen from a price table. Our blood tests for TRT guide explains the questions in more detail. Clinical cautions
How do you switch from AlphaMD without a gap — or paying twice?
Get your records, identify when your current prescription supply will end, and ask the receiving provider how long its evaluation and first fill could take. Agree on who is responsible for care and refills before cancelling an arrangement you still need; no published average guarantees a gap-free transfer. Cancel billing in writing before your actual renewal cutoff, and keep the confirmation.
- Find your AlphaMD dates. Check your plan, when your term ends, and your renewal cutoff in your account. Prepaid 6- and 12-month plans are generally final, so ask AlphaMD in writing what happens to unused months before you cancel. Terms
- Request your records. Ask for your current prescription (drug, strength, schedule and pharmacy), your last two lab reports, pretreatment diagnostic results, visit notes, and a list of any add-ons like hCG. Ask which affiliated practice holds the records and how to authorize a secure transfer. AlphaMD ties further add-on access to an active TRT subscription; that billing policy is not an instruction to stop a medicine. Clinical arrangement · Add-on policy
- Count your supply. Record the expected end date from your prescription and dispensing instructions; ask the clinician or pharmacist if it is unclear. Do not stretch doses to make a transfer timeline work.
- Start the new provider early. Check that it serves your state, finish its intake, and send your records. Ask about appointment availability, required tests, clinical review, pharmacy processing and delivery separately; a two-to-three-week buffer is not a guarantee. If supply is running short, contact your current prescriber promptly rather than waiting for a new program to approve you.
- Agree on one clear handoff. Tell both clinicians everything you take and confirm who is responsible for the next prescription and monitoring. Don't combine supplies from two clinics or change your dose on your own.
- Cancel in writing. Once the care handoff is agreed, do it before AlphaMD's actual cutoff. If your new provider bills membership and medication separately (Hone and Male Excel do), note both cancellation rules for later. Cancelling a subscription, cancelling a pending pharmacy order and transferring medical records are three separate tasks. AlphaMD terms · Hone cancellation · Male Excel refills

Will online TRT still work after December 31, 2026?
The current federal extension permits certain telemedicine prescribing without a prior in-person evaluation through December 31, 2026; it does not settle every patient's care after that date. It is not a confirmed shutdown date for online TRT, and a provider cannot promise a future prescription based only on today's rule. DEA/HHS rule
Here's the background. The Ryan Haight Act generally requires an in-person evaluation for prescribing controlled drugs over the internet unless an exception applies. The current temporary exception—the fourth extension—took effect January 1, 2026 and runs through the end of December 31, 2026. It applies only when the practitioner, prescription, evaluation and communication meet the rule's conditions. Federal rule and conditions
For testosterone, the temporary pathway requires the applicable real-time audio-video evaluation; a questionnaire or text exchange alone is not that visit. The clinician must have the relevant prescribing authority, the prescription must have a legitimate medical purpose, and federal and state requirements still apply. State permission depends on the patient's location and the clinician's authority—not merely on a company's claim to serve the state. HHS prescribing overview · Federal conditions · State licensing
What the providers say: Male Excel warns that DEA and state requirements may call for an in-person medical exam. The pages checked do not establish a complete, patient-specific 2027 continuity plan for AlphaMD, Hone, TRT Nation or Taurus. That is an unanswered question, not proof that they have no plan. Male Excel FAQ
What to do about it: this is a reason to ask about continuity, not a reason to rush. Before you prepay many months anywhere—AlphaMD's annual plan included—ask who would arrange any required visit, who would pay for it, and what happens to unused prepaid service if care cannot continue. A shorter commitment reduces the amount prepaid, but does not guarantee access or eliminate money already owed under a minimum term.
What if you want to have kids?
Testosterone therapy can lower or stop sperm production, so if you want children now or soon, see a urologist or reproductive urologist before starting or switching. Medicines like hCG, clomiphene and enclomiphene work differently from testosterone replacement and can't be swapped in for it. Clinical guidance · Fertility information
What the guidance says: the Endocrine Society recommends against testosterone therapy in men planning fertility in the near term. A fertility-focused clinician can assess the cause of low testosterone and discuss appropriate testing and alternatives; adding a drug to TRT is not proof that sperm production or a future pregnancy will be protected. Recovery of sperm production is not something this comparison can promise on a fixed timeline. Guideline · AUA/ASRM treatment discussion
Non-testosterone medicines mentioned by these programs—not recommendations for fertility treatment:
- AlphaMD: hCG ($300 per 10,000-unit vial), gonadorelin and other ancillary offerings. Its shop requires active TRT membership for add-ons and describes its hCG as pharmacy-compounded; that is not the same as identifying an FDA-approved hCG product. Shop · hCG page
- Male Excel: its pricing page calls Triclozene a clomiphene-and-thyroid combination, but its product page names enclomiphene. Ask for the exact ingredients rather than treating the two drugs as interchangeable. Neither version is testosterone replacement or a guarantee of fertility protection. Pricing · Product page
- Hone: clomiphene ($38 a month) and enclomiphene (from $42 a month), both labeled compounded. Plan medication estimates
- TRT Nation and Taurus: enclomiphene; TRT Nation also advertises a TRT-plus-hCG package. A combined package is not evidence of fertility protection. TRT Nation · Taurus
Approval is product- and use-specific. FDA-approved Clomid (clomiphene citrate) is labeled for ovulatory dysfunction in women desiring pregnancy; use of that approved drug for male hypogonadism is off-label. A compounded clomiphene preparation is itself not FDA-approved. The compounded enclomiphene products discussed here are also not FDA-approved; they should not be presented as approved medicines simply being used off-label. Clomid label · FDA compounding guidance · FDA enclomiphene assessment
FDA-approved hCG products have specific indications: Pregnyl's labeling includes selected cases of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males—a form linked to inadequate hormone signals from the brain's pituitary gland. That is not a blanket approval for an hCG add-on to preserve fertility during TRT. No medicine guarantees your fertility will be protected or come back. Pregnyl prescribing information

Can you use insurance instead?
Do not assume these advertised online subscriptions will bill your insurance. AlphaMD, Male Excel, Hone and Taurus describe cash-pay arrangements, while TRT Nation's checked offer is a cash-price program; coverage for a separate clinician, lab or pharmacy must be confirmed with your plan. For insurance or a specific FDA-approved product, start with an in-network primary care clinician, urologist or endocrinologist and ask whether visits can be online. AlphaMD · Male Excel · Hone self-pay agreement · Taurus · TRT Nation pricing
Three bills to ask about before you book:
- The clinician: Are you in my network? Do I need a referral? Will you accept a patient already on TRT?
- The lab: Which lab is in network, and what will the tests my clinician orders cost me? For a first diagnosis, ask about repeat morning testing; a transfer needs its own record review.
- The pharmacy: Is the product my doctor prescribes covered? Is prior authorization needed? What's my copay?
Before combining care routes—for example, outside labs and an online subscription—ask whether both the clinician and your insurer accept that arrangement. Outside-lab acceptance does not establish insurance coverage, and Male Excel's terms restrict outside pharmacy fulfillment and insurance claims for services through its program. Where do these providers contradict themselves?
A few pages directly conflict; others leave a price, product or policy incomplete. The table below separates those issues so you can ask a precise question rather than assume an old page, a marketing claim and a checkout agreement all mean the same thing.

What else should you know about AlphaMD alternatives?
The remaining questions are about commitments, testing, product status and what a provider comparison can establish. An advertised price or state listing does not guarantee a prescription, a refund or the same terms for every patient.
What are the best AlphaMD alternatives?
It depends on your reason for leaving. For an already-diagnosed cash-pay patient seeking a published review schedule, compare Male Excel ($2,727 annualized injection subtotal before shipping and other unpriced charges). For a published confirmation process, compare Hone ($1,710 / $1,715 / $1,745 before medication); for price, compare staying with AlphaMD and TRT Nation. Male Excel · Hone and confirmation · AlphaMD · TRT Nation
Is AlphaMD's $129 a month all-inclusive?
No—not every possible charge. It covers testosterone within the quoted plan, supplies and follow-up visits, but higher-dose pricing, extra testing and add-ons like hCG can cost more. The $129 rate also comes with a 3-month minimum; a $50 basic kit appears in the current shop, while the cost article still says $49 for extra testing. Plan · Article · Kit
What's the cheapest AlphaMD alternative?
Among these published treatment-rate comparisons, AlphaMD's $98 monthly equivalent with annual prepayment is the lowest baseline, but AlphaMD is your current-provider option—not an alternative. TRT Nation is the closest listed alternative at $99.99 monthly equivalent before separately priced labs, and its 2.5-month purchases change cash paid. Neither figure proves the lowest complete cost for your care. AlphaMD · TRT Nation and labs
Can I leave AlphaMD in the middle of a prepaid plan?
You can request cancellation, but that is not a promise of a refund or release from charges already owed. AlphaMD's membership refund condition is cancellation within 72 hours with no services requested or rendered; other limited exceptions and applicable legal rights remain separate. Ask AlphaMD in writing about your unused months and arrange the clinical handoff separately. Terms
Will a new TRT provider make me redo my labs?
Not always. TRT Nation explicitly allows qualifying outside reports; other providers may require different tests, more recent results or their own collection process. Bring your last two lab reports and pretreatment records—the receiving clinician decides what can be used. TRT Nation FAQ
Does "cancel anytime" mean I get money back?
No. Cancellation affects future billing under the provider's notice rules; it does not automatically refund previous charges or cancel a medication order. Hone explicitly separates membership and medication cancellation, while Taurus requires at least 72 hours' notice before billing. Hone policy · Taurus policy
Do AlphaMD alternatives prescribe hCG?
TRT Nation currently advertises TRT plus hCG at $180 monthly equivalent with a 2.5-month minimum. AlphaMD separately lists hCG for active TRT members at $300 per 10,000-unit vial. Those are provider offers, not fertility-preservation findings; the exact product and indication need a clinician's review. hCG is not testosterone replacement. TRT Nation pricing · AlphaMD product · Pregnyl label
Is compounded testosterone FDA-approved?
No. The FDA does not approve compounded drugs or review them for safety, effectiveness and quality before marketing. Ask any provider for the exact product and pharmacy; a pharmacy's ability to compound does not tell you the status of every product it dispenses. FDA
Does Male Excel serve my state?
Male Excel's published exclusion list names Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, as checked September 22, 2026. Confirm your specific location and clinical service before paying. Provider state FAQ
Does switching make financial sense for a veteran?
Compare against your discounted AlphaMD renewal, not its standard rate. Its advertised 20% military, veteran and first-responder discount brings the annual-prepaid rate to $78.40 monthly equivalent; that is a reason to price staying first, not proof of the best medical fit. Ask any alternative about its current discount, eligibility and whether it combines with the quoted plan. AlphaMD pricing
Is AlphaMD legit?
AlphaMD has a live service website, terms, a named business in Lynnwood, Washington, and disclosures that independent clinicians provide care through affiliated practices.
