IAMHRT Alternatives (2026): Better-Fit TRT Options, Real Costs, and How to Switch

IAMHRT alternatives fit different needs: Male Excel for its stated dedicated-provider model, Hone Plus for included follow-up labs, and local care for insurance or fertility-focused evaluation. IAM Essential's $2,031 annual model is not a complete quote. Compare the full bill, your state, the exact medicine, and the handoff before choosing.

Best for: U.S. adults comparing a replacement for IAM's care. Not for you if: you need a diagnosis, a dose change, or urgent help; those need a clinician. Women's and gender-affirming care need their own clinical framework, not the men's price table below.

Before you compare prices, read the compounded-medication notice on IAM's own website. It changes what you need to check before calling another clinic an upgrade. We'll show you exactly where it is.

This page is about IAM, the online hormone clinic at iamhrt.com — not general menopause "HRT alternatives."

How we make money: TRT Provider Guide has affiliate relationships with Male Excel, Taurus Meds, and Hone Health. We may earn a commission through labeled affiliate links. The provider information and source links in this article are direct links without affiliate tracking. Separate labeled Male Excel referral links use affiliate tracking. IAM, TRT Nation, and Defy Medical are included as non-affiliate comparisons. Commissions never change a fact on this page, and you'll see below that our own partner isn't the lowest-priced example. See How We Review TRT Providers and our affiliate disclosure.

TRT Provider Guide is the independent decision resource for testosterone replacement therapy — helping U.S. adults understand how low testosterone is evaluated, compare online and local care models and providers, and choose the next step that fits their health needs, fertility plans, budget, state, and care preferences, with every material claim verified and dated.

What we actually verified

Checked October 13, 2026: accessible public pricing, program, laboratory, state, pharmacy, and policy material from IAM, Male Excel, Hone Health, Taurus Meds, TRT Nation, and Defy Medical, together with the primary medical and regulatory sources linked below.

Verified from documents: the cited published prices and billing units, the contents of the state lists, and our arithmetic. This verifies what a provider publishes, not whether a particular patient received that service.

Provider-stated, not tested: service availability, clinician access, monitoring schedules, shipping, pharmacy relationships, and support hours. Inclusion is not a license check or a clinical endorsement.

Not established: a complete personal first-year bill, the clinician and pharmacy assigned to you, actual response times, or an active affiliate tracking destination. We could not fully recheck IAM's expanded help-center answers and terms, so its exact outside-pharmacy, automatic-refill, cancellation, and unused-lab refund policies remain questions to confirm in writing.

What we did not do: enroll, buy medication, test support or cancellation, inspect a patient checkout, or verify individual professional licenses. No clinician reviewed this article.

Educational information, not medical advice. If you have chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of a stroke, or another emergency, call 911.

Mid-course with IAM and something changed — a refill, an invoice, or the portal? Take a breath. Message your IAM care team through your established patient portal first; IAM says it replies within one business day. Ask which orders are pending and what can still be canceled. Don't stretch or change your dose on your own. If you might run out, ask the IAM clinician or a local doctor about continuity before canceling a needed order. Then use the switch checklist below. [4] [32]

The right TRT provider is not the same for every person — it depends on whether low testosterone has been properly evaluated, your symptoms and health history, your fertility plans, your state, your insurance or cash-pay preference, your treatment-format preference, your budget, and whether online or in-person care is the better starting point. Some situations belong with primary care, urology, endocrinology, reproductive urology, or urgent or emergency care when the symptoms warrant it. Because a general answer cannot resolve those for you, use TRT Provider Guide's Find My TRT Path tool to map your situation to the right care route and the questions to ask before you pay.

Should you leave IAM at all?

IAM says it has seen patients online since 2020, offers Labcorp or Quest blood draws with some state limits, and publishes pay-per-supply prices. You do not need to switch just because another clinic advertises a lower monthly number. Switching makes sense when your current care cannot meet a specific need, such as insurance, clinician access, fertility-focused evaluation, or service in your state. [1] [3] [6] [44]

Let's be fair to IAM first. Its published program has useful features, and its older reviews include positive service reports. [1] [11]

What IAM does well (checked October 13, 2026):

  • Simple pricing. Men's injectable TRT is $260 or $360 per advertised 10-week course. Our model adds $20 shipping per order, based on IAM's published medication-order shipping language; confirm that charge on your testosterone quote. [1] [48]
  • Included video visits. IAM's men's program includes the initial consultation and lab-result review in the listed package. That does not establish that every future visit is free. [1]
  • Choice of formats. Injections, cream, troches, and oral capsules. IAM also lists enclomiphene, which is not testosterone replacement. [1] [8] [9] [41]
  • Published shipping process. IAM's older program page describes second-day shipping after 24–48 hours of processing, not a guaranteed two-day delivery from payment. In an unprompted Trustpilot review dated January 12, 2022, Michael Elkins wrote that staff "call me when it is time for a refill." That is one customer's historical experience, not a current service guarantee. [2] [11]

What IAM doesn't show you:

  • An assigned prescriber before intake. We did not establish who would prescribe for you from the About and program material checked. Ask for the clinician's full name and verify their license in the state where you will receive care; a website or review profile does not establish licensure. [6] [53]
  • Independently verified coverage. IAM says it serves 48 states, all but Alaska and Hawaii. That is IAM's statement, not a clinician-by-clinician license audit. [6]
  • Recent review evidence. IAM's Trustpilot shows a 4.7 from 34 reviews — but zero reviews in the past 12 months. The newest review visible in the material checked is dated January 5, 2024. Trustpilot notes IAM hasn't invited customers to review recently. Glowing, yes. Current, no. [11]
  • Insurance billing. IAM describes itself as self-pay. It says it accepts HSA and FSA payments and can provide a superbill, but it does not bill insurers. A superbill is an itemized receipt, not a promise of reimbursement. [44]
  • A narrow treatment catalog. IAM lists 62 treatments in the directory checked. It labels some offerings investigational, including Dihexa, 5-Amino-1MQ, and SLU-PP-332. It also advertises compounded retatrutide; the FDA says retatrutide cannot be used in compounding under federal law. None of that is testosterone, and a listing is not proof about the product in your TRT prescription. But it is a material reason to ask how the clinic separates established care from investigational offerings. [7] [40] [48] [57]

Stay or switch? A quick gut check

IAMHRT alternatives table 2: Stay or switch? A quick gut check
Staying may make sense if… Investigate alternatives if…
You're happy with your care and its itemized price You cannot get clear answers about who prescribes and how follow-up works
You like paying per course rather than a monthly membership You need insurance billing or a specific FDA-approved product at your chosen pharmacy
Your clinician has explained why your treatment format fits your needs You want a fertility-focused review before choosing any replacement treatment
IAM confirms service in your state and your refills arrive on time You live in Alaska or Hawaii, or you're moving there

If you're in the left column, the most useful thing on this page may be the switch checklist — to keep in your back pocket. If you're in the right column, keep reading. The next section puts every option on the same price yardstick.

How much do IAMHRT alternatives cost compared with IAM?

IAM lists Essential at $260 or Complete at $360 per 10-week course; its initial and follow-up laboratory panels are $125 and $150. Our Essential model totals $2,031 with assumed $20 shipping per order and three follow-up panels. Hone Plus is $1,710–$1,715 before medication under its conflicting in-lab confirmation prices, while Male Excel's injection example is $2,727 plus shipping; none is a guaranteed personal total. [1] [3] [12] [15] [16] [48]

IAM's 10-week billing is why it's so hard to compare. Most clinics advertise monthly prices. So we did the conversion for you.

IAM's real price, decoded

IAMHRT alternatives table 3: IAM's real price, decoded
IAM men's plan Listed price What's in it Monthly equivalent*
Essential $260 per 10-week course Testosterone cypionate 200 mg/mL, 10 mL vial; anastrozole if prescribed; syringes, needles, pads; video consult and lab review ≈ $113
Complete $360 per 10-week course Everything in Essential plus gonadorelin and a mixing kit ≈ $156
Shipping assumption $20 per medication order in this model IAM publishes this charge on medication pages; confirm it applies to your testosterone order —
Labs $125 first panel · $150 each follow-up Labcorp or Quest; IAM says Quest is unavailable for its patients in NY, NJ, and RI. Actual testing frequency is set by the clinician. —

Monthly equivalent = price × 52 ÷ 10 ÷ 12, before shipping and labs. The medicine strengths and package sizes identify the advertised products; they are not dosing instructions. Sources: [1] [3] [48], checked October 13, 2026.

The "price drop" that may not be a price drop. Another IAM page remains published with the two plans at $280 and $380 per 10 weeks and shipping included. [2] The $260 and $360 program prices plus an assumed $20 delivery charge reach exactly the same totals. Do the math: $260 + $20 = $280. $360 + $20 = $380. That comparison does not establish which page controls your order, or prove that IAM changed its price. Ask for the delivered total. [1] [48]

Now let's put a full year on paper. This illustration assumes one $125 initial panel and three $150 follow-up panels. It is not a verified IAM monitoring schedule: a confirming diagnostic test, extra safety testing, or another panel at month 12 could increase the bill. An existing patient switching care may have a different testing bill. [3] [32] [33]

IAMHRT alternatives table 4: IAM's real price, decoded
IAM 52-week model (men, injections) Essential Complete
Medication: 5.2 courses × price $1,352 $1,872
Shipping: 5.2 orders × $20 $104 $104
First lab panel $125 $125
Three follow-up panels × $150 $450 $450
Annualized model, including the four assumed panels and shipping $2,031 $2,551
Illustrative first-12-month cash purchases (six courses bought at weeks 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50; same lab assumption) $2,255 $2,855

Why two numbers? Because if you buy each course as it starts, six charges land inside your first 12 months, not 5.2. The sixth advertised supply extends beyond the model's one-year boundary. It's a payment-timing difference, not evidence of a hidden fee. These are scenarios, not maximum bills, and an advertised supply duration is not a direction to use a vial beyond its pharmacy label.

Put each price on a labeled yardstick

IAMHRT alternatives table 5: Put each price on a labeled yardstick
Option How it bills Published-price model Included in that model Not included or still unresolved
IAM Essential Per 10-week course $2,031 annualized; $2,255 six-order cash scenario Medication, listed supplies and visits, assumed $20/order shipping, one initial and three follow-up panels Additional tests or visits, different supply or shipping terms, applicable taxes
IAM Complete Per 10-week course $2,551 annualized; $2,855 six-order cash scenario Same model, with gonadorelin in the advertised package Same unresolved costs; gonadorelin does not establish fertility protection
Hone Plus (men) $135/month membership; medication separate $1,710–$1,715 + medication with in-lab confirmation; $1,745 + medication with home confirmation $45 first test, $45–$50 in-lab or $80 home confirmation, 12 memberships, included follow-up labs and consults, network shipping Medication; extra testing or services outside plan benefits; outside-pharmacy charges [15] [16] [18]
Male Excel (injections) $99/month membership + medication Starting-price example $2,727 + shipping $99 initial test and consult + 12 × ($99 membership + medication starting at $120/month); stated follow-up benefits Shipping, any additional services or tests, actual invoice timing; medication package is priced "with thyroid" [12] [45]
Male Excel (cream) Same Starting-price example $2,871 + shipping Same model with medication starting at $132/month Same unresolved costs [12]
Taurus Meds $149/month advertised after a $49 start $1,837 conditional subtotal $49 + 12 × $149 under that offer Whether the $17.99-per-billing-period fee applies; frequency, exact tests, product, shipping, and purchase-specific terms [21] [22]
TRT Nation (non-affiliate comparison) $99.99/month rate, bought in at least 2.5-month blocks $1,328.88 with one $129 panel; $1,586.88 with three panels at that price 12 advertised monthly equivalents, treatment and listed supplies/consults, the stated number of panels Additional testing, any different panel or California price, actual prepaid-order timing [24] [25] [27]
Defy Medical (non-affiliate comparison) Pay for each service Quote required Itemized services only Request consultations, labs, medication, shipping, and any required physical-exam cost [29] [50] [51]
Local doctor + an FDA-approved testosterone product Visits, labs, pharmacy Individual quote required Depends on your plan and prescription Visits, testing, exact medicine and quantity, copays, deductible, prior authorization, and pharmacy charges [43]

Math: Hone Plus = $45 + $45–$50 + $135 × 12, or $45 + $80 + $135 × 12 for home confirmation. Male Excel = $99 + 12 × ($99 + a starting medication price of $120 for injections or $132 for cream). Taurus = $49 + $149 × 12 only if no separate fee applies. TRT Nation = $99.99 × 12 + $129 × the number of panels. These are budgeting figures, not quotes. An unknown fee is not $0.

Prepayment can change cash due. TRT Nation's 2.5-month minimum is about $250 per purchase. If five such purchases land within your first 12 months, treatment purchases alone total about $1,250; with three $129 panels, the illustration is about $1,637. Male Excel uses both 60-day and every-other-month billing language, so ask for the actual charge dates rather than treating a monthly equivalent as a calendar-year cash guarantee. [12] [24]

TRT Nation's newer FAQ describes testing at about week 10 and then six months later, which is why the three-panel illustration is more useful than counting only a starting panel. Your clinician may require other tests. Its pages also disagree on the acceptable age of outside labs; get approval before paying for replacement tests. [26] [27]

What this table tells you:

  1. There is no verified cheapest complete bill here. IAM's model includes medication and assumed labs; Hone's subtotal excludes medication; Taurus's fee clause remains unresolved. Compare written quotes with the same components before calling one cheaper.
  2. Hone Plus changes how follow-up labs are billed. Its stated $135 membership includes follow-up labs, while the initial and confirming tests remain separate. The in-lab membership-and-testing subtotal is $316–$321 below the IAM Essential model, but that difference is not a saving because Hone medication is still missing. Ask Hone what your exact prescription costs over a year. [15] [16]
  3. Male Excel costs more in these models. Its starting injection example is $696 above the IAM Essential illustration before Male Excel shipping. We'll be straight about that when we get to it — and about why some men may still investigate it.

Want your own number instead of ours? Our TRT cost calculator and the deeper IAMHRT cost guide walk through it.

If paying one monthly price with your follow-up labs inside it sounds better than buying courses and lab panels separately, see what Hone Plus includes and costs →

Is IAM's testosterone compounded — and does switching change that?

IAM publishes a notice that compounded medications are not FDA-approved, but that does not identify the exact testosterone product or pharmacy you would receive. Switching clinics does not by itself establish a switch to an FDA-approved product. A local clinician can discuss approved products, and Hone says it can send a suitable prescription to your chosen pharmacy; confirm the exact medicine and dispensing arrangements first. [18] [35] [49] [54]

Here's the notice we promised. IAM's website says its compounded medications are not FDA-approved. [49] We could not confirm its current outside-pharmacy policy or the identity and approval status of every testosterone preparation from the material available for this check. Ask for the exact product, its manufacturer or compounding pharmacy, and where it can be filled before treating a switch as an upgrade.

A new clinic name is not proof of a different medicine. The finished product — not the clinic's branding — is what you need to identify. [35]

Quick definitions:

  • FDA-approved means the FDA reviewed that specific product for safety, effectiveness, and quality for its approved uses. An approved drug can also be prescribed off-label, meaning for a use outside its FDA-approved labeling. [35] [55]
  • Compounded means a licensed clinician or pharmacy has combined, mixed, or altered ingredients for a patient's needs. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, and the FDA does not review their safety, effectiveness, or quality before marketing. They can serve a medical need, but they are not interchangeable with FDA-approved products merely because a clinic describes similar ingredients. [35]
IAMHRT alternatives table 6: Is IAM's testosterone compounded — and does switching change that?
Option What its own pages say about the product Can you use your own pharmacy?
IAM Publishes a compounded-medication notice; exact testosterone product and dispensing pharmacy not established in this check [49] Current policy not confirmed; ask in writing
Male Excel Describes compounded testosterone; its FAQ names Anazao Health and WellDyneRx [13] No. Its terms say prescriptions are filled by contracted pharmacies and cannot be sent elsewhere [46]
Hone Health Its plan labels cream and troches compounded, and its injection product page also identifies that advertised product as compounded. Confirm the exact preparation and pharmacy for your prescription [15] [58] Yes, where the receiving pharmacy can fill the prescription; membership continues and Hone does not handle prior authorizations or insurance processing [18]
Taurus Meds Advertises compounded treatment and lists RedRock Pharmacy, Health Warehouse, Precision Compounding Pharmacy, and Triad Rx in its terms; the assigned product and pharmacy need confirmation [21] [22] Not established in the material checked
TRT Nation Says it uses compounding pharmacies; that alone does not identify the finished product in an individual order [26] Not established in the material checked
Local clinician Can discuss an FDA-approved generic or brand-name testosterone product when appropriate [54] A prescription can be sent to a pharmacy able to fill it; insurance coverage still depends on your plan [43]

Bottom line: compare two separate things: the service — who you talk to, how labs work, what it costs — and the exact medicine. A regular pharmacy cannot simply replace every compounded prescription with an approved product. If insurance or an FDA-approved product is your main reason to leave, investigate that care route first. We cover it below. [18] [35] [43]

Which IAM alternatives can treat you in your state?

IAM says it serves 48 states, all except Alaska and Hawaii; Male Excel's current published exclusions leave 39 states. Hone lists men's Plus in 35 states and men's Premium in 34 — 36 states across the two plans, not 35 states for both. In Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, neither Male Excel nor Hone lists men's hormone care. [6] [13] [17] [47]

This is where a lot of IAM patients could get stuck. IAM's stated coverage is broader than Male Excel's or either men's Hone hormone plan. So we lined up every state.

What the lists show (our count from each provider's own lists):

  • 9 states IAM lists that Male Excel does not: AL, AR, CT, ID, LA, MN, MS, NH, RI.
  • Hone lists men's hormone care in 2 of those: Idaho and Mississippi.
  • 7 states are listed by IAM but not by Male Excel or either men's Hone hormone plan: AL, AR, CT, LA, MN, NH, RI.
  • TRT Nation's exclusion lists do not name CT, LA, MN, NH, or RI. Alabama and Arkansas are excluded — so there, local care is the clearest verified care route to investigate, not a claim that every other telehealth option is unavailable.
  • Hawaii: IAM no, Male Excel no, Hone Plus yes. Alaska: IAM, Male Excel, Hone, and TRT Nation exclude it or do not list it.
  • 33 states are listed by IAM, Male Excel, and at least one men's Hone hormone plan.

Sources: IAM [6]; Male Excel's current exclusions [13] [47]; Hone's program-specific state table [17]; TRT Nation's two FAQ pages [26] [27]. A check mark means the provider lists service, not that a clinician's license, appointment, prescription, or medication shipment was independently verified. †TRT Nation's two exclusion lists disagree about North Dakota. We did not establish complete TRT state lists for Taurus or Defy. Checked October 13, 2026.

A state list is a starting point, not a promise. A clinician must still assess you and meet the rules for the state where you are physically located during care; an in-person evaluation may be needed. New York readers: Hone lists Premium, not Plus, so do not budget from the Plus subtotal. Premium's published membership is $155 rather than $135 per month, with different starting tests. [17] [37] [53] [56]

Which alternative fixes your reason for leaving IAM?

Match the replacement to the problem. Male Excel's stated dedicated-provider model and Hone's included follow-up labs are different reasons to investigate a switch, not proof that either is better for everyone. Insurance, a specific approved product, or fertility goals may make a local clinician the better starting point; the lowest complete bill still requires itemized quotes. [12] [15] [32] [43] [45]

IAMHRT alternatives table 8: Which alternative fixes your reason for leaving IAM?
You're leaving IAM because… Next option to investigate Why, from the documents
"I want to know who my doctor is." Male Excel, after confirming the assigned clinician Says you keep a dedicated provider and lists phone support seven days a week. That is a provider claim, not a tested response-time or continuity guarantee. [45]
"I'm tired of paying $150 for every lab panel." Hone Plus Follow-up labs and consults are included in the $135 membership. [15]
"I want my diagnosis double-checked." A clinician reviewing the original diagnosis, or Hone's evaluation process Hone describes a confirming test for its new TRT pathway. New diagnoses need compatible symptoms or signs and repeat early-morning testing; already-treated patients need their pre-treatment records reviewed. [15] [32] [33]
"I want the lowest possible bill." Compare itemized IAM, TRT Nation, Hone, and insured local-care quotes Membership-only, treatment-only, and complete scenarios cannot establish a cheapest provider.
"I want insurance or my own pharmacy." Primary care, urology, endocrinology, or Hone for a suitable outside-pharmacy prescription IAM and Male Excel do not bill insurance; Male Excel's terms prohibit outside dispensing. Hone permits outside pharmacies but does not handle insurance processing. [18] [43] [44] [46]
"I might want kids soon." Urologist or reproductive urologist Testosterone can lower sperm production. [32] [34]
"I'm moving to Hawaii." Hone Plus, or local care Hone Plus lists Hawaii; IAM, Male Excel, and TRT Nation do not. Taurus and Defy coverage is not established here. [6] [13] [17] [27]
"I'm in Alabama or Arkansas." A local doctor, or an independently confirmed alternative Male Excel, men's Hone hormone plans, and TRT Nation do not list service there. This does not prove no other telehealth service exists.
"I want gonadorelin or hCG kept in my plan." A fertility-aware clinician before choosing add-ons IAM's Complete tier lists gonadorelin. Confirm current hCG availability and its clinical purpose; neither an add-on nor a more expensive tier guarantees fertility. [1] [32] [52]
"I'd like a second opinion first." Defy Medical Offers itemized consults and reviews outside labs case by case. [29] [30]
"I'm a woman on IAM's testosterone." See the women's section Different clinical evidence and program terms; do not apply the men's diagnosis or price model.

Is Male Excel the alternative for men who want one steady provider?

Male Excel publishes starting prices and says its care includes a dedicated provider and check-ins every 60 days. Its injection example is about $2,727 in year one plus shipping — more than the IAM model — with compounded testosterone and medication packages priced "with thyroid." Its current exclusions leave 39 states; confirm the assigned clinician, testing process, and thyroid plan before choosing it. [12] [13] [45] [47]

What you get

  • A $99 start. That covers an online consultation and an at-home hormone test. [12] [45]
  • $99 a month membership, plus medication. Injections start at $120 a month and cream at $132 a month in its listed packages, billed as 60-day supplies. [12]
  • One provider. Male Excel says your care stays with a dedicated provider, with check-ins every 60 days and labs every six months. It lists phone support seven days a week, 7am–9pm ET. These are Male Excel's own statements; we didn't test them. [45] [59]
  • Named pharmacies. Its FAQ names Anazao Health and WellDyneRx. [13]
  • A refill window. Its FAQ describes a 48-hour response window before refills bill and ship. [13]
  • A narrow guarantee. Its guarantee covers your first three membership payments, with conditions about following the program. It isn't a medication refund. The terms require the request within 30 days after the initial 90-day period ends. [14]

The honest tradeoff

Male Excel does not beat IAM on the modeled price. Its starting injection example is $696 higher than the IAM Essential illustration, and shipping is extra on top. If the lowest bill is what matters most to you, compare complete written quotes rather than choosing Male Excel for its membership features.

The reason to investigate the extra cost is its stated service model: a dedicated provider, a check-in every 60 days, scheduled labs, and a phone line seven days a week. For a man who left a clinic because he never knew who was making decisions about his care, those are specific questions worth asking. Confirm that the provider continuity and access you need apply to your plan; paying a membership does not prove better care. [45]

A testing question you should not skip: Male Excel's current homepage describes testing and clinician review before treatment decisions. That does not establish whether a separate confirming early-morning test is included in your quote. Ask how pre-treatment records and repeat diagnostic testing are reviewed; an already-treated transfer patient needs a different review from someone never evaluated. [32] [33] [47]

Who should pick something else

  • You live in AL, AK, AR, CT, HI, ID, LA, MN, MS, NH, or RI. Male Excel doesn't serve those states. [13] See the state map.
  • You don't want thyroid medication without a clear reason. Its packages are priced "with thyroid." Ask your provider whether there is a separate reason for thyroid treatment, which exact product is proposed, and what the package costs without it. [12]
  • You want an FDA-approved product, outside dispensing, or insurance. Male Excel describes compounded treatment and its terms require contracted pharmacies and cash payment. Those terms also say patients must not submit program charges to an insurer for reimbursement. Go to the local care section. [13] [46]
  • You want kids soon. Start with a urologist. [32]

Weighing these two directly? Our Male Excel vs Hone Health comparison goes deeper.

Is Hone Health the alternative for men who want follow-up labs included?

Hone Plus costs $135 a month plus medication, with a $45 starting test and a separate confirming test. Its plan page says $45 for in-lab confirmation, while its testing-schedule page says $50; the resulting year-one subtotal is $1,710–$1,715 before medication. Follow-up labs, follow-up consults, and network shipping are included, and Plus is listed in 35 states. [15] [16] [17]

What you get

  • A two-step evaluation path. Hone starts with an eight-marker home test ($45). If TRT is being considered, its confirming test rechecks total testosterone and adds hematocrit, PSA, and prolactin. The listed confirmation prices conflict: $45 or $50 at a lab, or $80 at home. A test result does not by itself establish a diagnosis or guarantee treatment. [15] [16] [33] (Hematocrit is the share of your blood made of red blood cells. PSA, or prostate-specific antigen, is a prostate blood marker.)
  • Labs inside the membership. Hone's TRT schedule lists follow-up labs at months 3, 6, 9, and 12. [16]
  • Medication is separate. The Plus plan lists cypionate injections from $28 per vial, while the injection product page advertises a starting monthly price. Those are different units, not a verified annual prescription quote. That product page identifies its advertised injection as compounded; cream and troches are listed at $60 a month and labeled compounded. [15] [58]
  • Your pharmacy, where it can fill the prescription. Hone says it can send prescriptions to an outside pharmacy, but your membership continues and Hone doesn't handle insurance prior authorizations or processing. The pharmacy bills you separately. [18]

Who should pick something else

  • You need Plus in AK, AL, AR, CT, DE, KS, LA, MN, NH, NJ, NY, ND, PA, RI, or SC. Hone does not list Plus in those states. New York is listed for men's Premium instead; Washington, D.C. is not listed for either men's hormone plan. [17]
  • You hate memberships. Hone bills monthly, and its cancellation policy gives no partial-month credit. [20]
  • You're counting on a fertility guarantee. A medication list or marketing claim does not establish preserved fertility. Enclomiphene is not testosterone replacement and has no FDA-approved use. See the fertility section before choosing any program around having children. [32] [41]

What about Taurus Meds, TRT Nation, and Defy Medical?

Taurus advertises a $149-a-month bundle with a $49 start, but its terms leave fees and state coverage to confirm. TRT Nation lists $99.99 a month with a 2.5-month minimum and a $129 lab panel; repeat testing raises the annual budget. Defy Medical prices each service separately, reviews outside labs case by case, and publishes physical-exam requirements that differ between its terms pages. [21] [22] [24] [25] [27] [29] [30] [50] [51]

Taurus Meds — confirm the fine print before comparing value

Taurus advertises $149 a month after a $49 start. [21] Its terms also include a $17.99-per-billing-period clause unless your purchase terms say otherwise. [22] We did not establish that this is a monthly extra charge on the advertised TRT offer, or that it is waived. Its refund policy says to cancel at least 72 hours before renewal and generally does not refund cancellations, with separate terms for medical disqualification. [23]

We did not establish a full TRT state list for Taurus or confirm which of its listed pharmacies would fill your order. Its advertised price is worth comparing only after you have a written quote naming the fees, required tests, exact medication, pharmacy, and cancellation deadline.

There is also a documentation problem. The offer page repeats injection descriptions under testosterone gel and enclomiphene, and refers to a different branded program, The Excel Advantage. Those mismatched descriptions are not usable medication instructions or proof of the product you would receive. Ask Taurus to clarify them before choosing a medicine or relying on the offer. [21]

If that fits what you're after, read Taurus's current offer and terms → Check the state, the fees, and the product before you pay.

TRT Nation — a low listed rate, with a minimum purchase (non-affiliate comparison)

TRT Nation lists $99.99 a month with a 2.5-month minimum purchase, so expect about $250 up front for the treatment block. Its TRT lab panel is $129, and follow-up labs come on top. [24] [25] Its two FAQ pages disagree on how recent outside labs can be (120 days vs. six months). [26] [27] Refills aren't automatic, and its cancellation policy says purchases aren't refundable. [28] Its newer FAQ describes labs around week 10 and then six months later; the three-panel illustration above allows for those two follow-ups rather than counting only the starting panel. [27] That FAQ also limits care to patients 24 and older and says home-test results are not accepted. [27]

Defy Medical — itemized care and a second opinion (no affiliation)

Defy charges for each consultation, lab, and medication rather than a monthly bundle, so you'll need a personal quote. [29] It reviews outside lab results case by case [30] and offers hormone care for both men and women. [31] Its own cost estimates differ between pages, so don't rely on an average.

Budget for an exam as well as online visits. Defy's main terms require a physical-examination form at least every 24 months, while its patient-portal terms say at least every 12 months; both allow plan-specific requirements and describe consultations and labs at least every six months. Its unused-lab rules also differ between those pages. Get the terms that apply to your purchase and include any local exam cost in your quote. [50] [51]

When is a local doctor or specialist the better IAM alternative?

A local doctor is often the better starting point for insurance billing, an FDA-approved product, or a complex clinical review. Men with current or future fertility goals should discuss those plans with a urologist or reproductive urologist before choosing testosterone treatment, because it can suppress sperm production. A new diagnosis needs compatible symptoms or signs plus repeat early-morning testing, not one result or a quiz. [32] [33] [43] [54]

You want insurance or an FDA-approved product

IAM says it does not bill insurance; its current outside-pharmacy policy was not confirmed in this check. [44] A primary care doctor, urologist, or endocrinologist in your network can discuss FDA-approved generic testosterone cypionate or another approved product when appropriate. Get a pharmacy quote for the exact prescribed product, strength, quantity, and location rather than budgeting from an unverified coupon range. Before you go, ask your plan about the clinician's network, the drug's formulary status, prior authorization, and your copay. [43] [54] Our list of TRT providers that take insurance is a good next stop.

You may want kids soon

Testosterone from outside your body can suppress the hormone signals needed for sperm production — doctors call sperm production spermatogenesis. The Endocrine Society recommends against starting testosterone therapy for men planning fertility in the near term. [32] Specialist infertility guidance also warns against using testosterone as a fertility treatment; taking an add-on is not a guarantee that sperm production will be maintained. [34]

What about IAM's gonadorelin or enclomiphene? These are not testosterone replacement, and they're not interchangeable with it. Enclomiphene is not FDA-approved for any use. [41] IAM's enclomiphene page makes a fertility-preservation claim, but that is not a promise you should build a family plan around. [8] No add-on or alternative can promise preserved or restored fertility. If fertility is a near-term goal, start with a urologist or reproductive urologist before picking any program. See TRT fertility safety.

hCG is a separate medicine, not testosterone. Pregnyl is an FDA-approved hCG product whose label includes selected cases of male hypogonadotropic hypogonadism — low function caused by inadequate hormonal signaling. That approval is not a blanket approval or guarantee for preserving fertility during TRT. Confirm both availability and the clinical reason for any proposed hCG prescription; IAM's current Pregnyl offering was not established in this check. [52]

Your diagnosis was never confirmed

Low testosterone isn't diagnosed from one number or a quiz. The Endocrine Society calls for compatible symptoms or signs plus consistently low results, confirmed with repeat early-morning, fasting testing using reliable assays. [32] [33] Total testosterone is all the testosterone in your blood; free testosterone is the part not attached to proteins. A cutoff such as 300 ng/dL is not a universal diagnosis by itself. Ask any clinic — IAM included — whether confirming diagnostic testing is required, included, or billed separately. Our guide to getting evaluated for TRT explains the care steps.

Already taking testosterone? Bring the original pre-treatment results and diagnostic notes as well as your recent monitoring results. A result while taking testosterone is not an untreated baseline. Ask the receiving clinician how the diagnosis and current treatment will be reviewed; do not stop, stretch, or change medication on your own to obtain a new test. [32] [33]

What testing changes when you switch?

IAMHRT alternatives table 9: What testing changes when you switch?
Provider New or confirming tests Existing labs and follow-up What to settle before paying
IAM $125 initial panel is published; a separate required confirming-test price was not established $150 follow-up panel; exact acceptance window and personal schedule not established in this check [3] Whether your diagnostic records are sufficient, which extra tests are needed, and what each costs
Male Excel Advertises a $99 home-test-and-consult start and clinician review of results; a separate confirming-test entitlement was not established [45] [47] States 60-day check-ins and six-month labs; outside-lab acceptance not established [45] How repeat early-morning diagnosis confirmation occurs before a new treatment decision; any additional test charges
Hone Plus $45 initial home test; separate confirmation $45–$50 at a lab or $80 at home [15] [16] Published TRT follow-ups at months 3, 6, 9, and 12 are included; clinician can adjust the plan [16] Whether your existing records alter the intake path and which confirmation price applies
Taurus Meds $49 advertised start; complete repeat-test requirements and inclusions not established [21] [22] Get a written testing schedule and itemized quote Which diagnostic and safety tests are included, and which are extra
TRT Nation $129 published panel; exact confirming diagnostic process needs clinician review [25] Outside results: 120 days on one FAQ, six months on another. Newer schedule: about week 10, then six months later [26] [27] Written acceptance of existing results, the panel required, and the full testing budget
Defy Medical Itemized testing; outside results reviewed case by case [29] [30] Terms describe labs and consultations at least every six months, or as the plan requires [50] [51] Missing tests, consultation fees, and which physical-exam interval applies

The point of this table: included monitoring is not the same as a confirmed initial diagnosis. An unknown testing policy is not proof that a clinic skips testing, and an included lab panel does not guarantee that every clinically needed test is free.

Your health history is complicated

A history of prostate or breast cancer, high hematocrit, untreated severe sleep apnea, a heart attack or stroke within the past six months, or suspected pituitary or testicular disease needs clinical assessment and often specialist input before a routine online TRT decision. Some situations need an in-person examination; the history alone does not establish that every telehealth consultation is prohibited. [32] A cheaper online plan doesn't solve that. Urgent symptoms belong in urgent or emergency care.

Monitoring is about more than the testosterone number. Ask who follows your symptoms, blood count, blood pressure, and prostate assessment when appropriate. FDA labeling changes include blood-pressure warnings; TRT should not be sold as cardiovascular protection or risk-free treatment. The schedule depends on the patient, medicine, and clinician, not just the membership's default lab dates. [32] [54]

Not sure which of these describes you? Map your care route with Find My TRT Path → It's free and educational. It doesn't diagnose, decide eligibility, or prescribe. You can also compare online vs. local TRT care.

What are the IAMHRT alternatives for women?

IAM's women's program lists testosterone propionate injections at $175 per vial and cream at $125 per jar; these are supply prices, not verified monthly costs. Options to investigate include Hone Premium for Women, Defy Medical, or a gynecology, menopause, or sexual-medicine clinician. Men's TRT rules and prices do not apply, and a women's program listing does not establish that its advertised treatment is appropriate for you. [10] [19] [31] [39]

For women leaving IAM, its women's page lists testosterone propionate 100 mg/mL in a 2 mL vial at $175, testosterone cream at $125 per 30 g jar, and a testosterone-plus-progesterone option at $265. These strengths and sizes identify advertised products, not suggested doses. Confirm shipping, testing, and the clinician's expected supply interval before annualizing the price. [10]

Here's what women should know before switching:

  • No testosterone product is FDA-approved specifically for women in the U.S. Use of an approved male product in a woman is off-label; a compounded preparation is a different category and is not FDA-approved. [39] [54] [55]
  • The strongest evidence is narrow. The ISSWSH guideline supports carefully monitored systemic testosterone for postmenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) — low sexual desire that causes distress — after a full evaluation. It notes more limited evidence for some late-reproductive-age women. It does not recommend compounded products, intramuscular injections, pellets, or oral testosterone for this use. [39]
  • A testosterone number alone doesn't diagnose HSDD. Medical, medication, mood, and relationship factors all matter. A clinic offering testosterone injections is not evidence that this format follows HSDD guidance. [39]
IAMHRT alternatives table 10: What are the IAMHRT alternatives for women?
Option for women What it offers Cost basis
IAM women's program (current) Propionate injection, cream, or testosterone + progesterone $125–$265 per advertised supply; shipping, labs, and supply interval need confirmation [10]
Hone Premium for Women Women-specific plan with scheduled labs and consults; listed in 33 states $65 first test + $155/month = $1,925 before medication for 12 membership months [17] [19]
Defy Medical Women's hormone care with itemized pricing Quote required [31]
Gynecology, menopause, or sexual-medicine clinician Full evaluation; may use insurance Depends on your plan

Find My TRT Path is built around men's testosterone evaluation, so women should start with the options above rather than treating the tool as a women's treatment assessment. These listings are options for a consultation, not endorsements of every medicine they offer. If you're seeking gender-affirming hormone care, look for a clinician who offers that specific service. Adolescents and people seeking testosterone for nonmedical performance use are outside this comparison's scope.

How do you switch from IAM without a gap in care?

Arrange the clinical handoff before canceling a needed IAM order. Request your diagnostic records, recent labs, prescription details, and order status; ask the new clinician which records can be used and who will manage care during the switch. Starting several weeks ahead is a planning allowance, not a guaranteed transfer time, and medication changes belong with your clinician. [32] [38]

Switching involves paperwork and timing, but no clinic can guarantee a gap-free handoff.

The IAM switch checklist

  1. Find your run-out date. Use your prescription label, remaining supply, and clinician's instructions, not a generic 10-week marketing estimate. Write down the date you need the next clinical plan in place.
  2. Check automatic refills. Ask IAM whether any refill or payment is scheduled. Once the clinical handoff is agreed, request any needed cancellation in writing and ask when it takes effect.
  3. Avoid duplicate orders without creating a gap. Before another order is processed, ask both clinics what is pending and what can still be canceled. Do not cancel a needed supply merely because you have started a new intake.
  4. Request your records. Ask for pre-treatment diagnostic results, dated monitoring labs, visit notes, your current prescription (medicine, strength, and directions), and the dispensing pharmacy. HIPAA generally gives you access to records held by covered providers; a reasonable, cost-based copying fee may apply. Use the provider's secure records process. [38]
  5. Ask about unused labs. If you paid for an IAM panel you will not use, request the applicable refund or credit policy. A refund was not established in this check; do not budget as though one is guaranteed.
  6. Start the new clinic early. Three to four weeks before you expect to need the next supply is our editorial planning allowance, not a guarantee. Ask about actual intake, testing, appointment, pharmacy, and shipping times; more time may be needed.
  7. Have existing labs reviewed before buying replacements. The new clinician may accept some results or require additional tests. Confirm the required markers, age of results, any second diagnostic test, and cost in writing. [15] [26] [27] [30]
  8. Agree on who's responsible during the switch. If the new prescription might arrive after you run out, ask both clinicians what to do. Don't change or stretch your dose on your own.

Copy-and-send: your records request to IAM

Hi, I'm requesting copies of my records. Please send my pre-treatment diagnostic results, dated monitoring labs, visit notes, current prescription details (medication, strength, and directions), and the name and address of the pharmacy that filled my orders through your secure records process. Please also confirm whether any automatic refill, pending medication order, or other charge is scheduled, and how to cancel it once my clinical handoff is arranged. If I have a paid lab panel I haven't used, please send the applicable refund or credit terms. Thank you.

Copy-and-send: questions for your new clinic

  1. Which exact medicine would I get, and is it compounded or FDA-approved? Which pharmacy fills it?
  2. Will you review my recent IAM labs, or do I need new ones? What will they cost?
  3. Who is my clinician, how do I verify their license, and how do I reach them between visits?
  4. What is every charge in my first year — start fee, membership, medication, confirming and follow-up labs, consultations, shipping, any required in-person exam, and applicable taxes?
  5. How do I cancel membership and medication orders separately, and what is the deadline before each charge becomes nonrefundable?

Keep clinical records in the clinics' secure systems; this comparison does not need your lab results or identification documents. Review TRT Provider Guide's privacy policy before using site tools.

What can you cancel and get refunded?

Canceling a membership, a medication order, and a laboratory purchase may require separate steps. We could not confirm IAM's current refund cutoff or unused-lab entitlement from fully accessible policy text. Hone explicitly separates membership cancellation from pending medication orders; Male Excel, Taurus, TRT Nation, and Defy also have purchase-specific limits to check before a charge. [14] [20] [23] [28] [46] [50] [51]

IAMHRT alternatives table 11: What can you cancel and get refunded?
Provider Commitment Cancellation and refunds (from their own pages)
IAM Published medication prices are per supply Current automatic-refill terms, medication cancellation cutoff, and unused-lab refund entitlement not confirmed. Ask for order status and the written policy before relying on a refund.
Male Excel Monthly membership; advertised 60-day medication supplies General terms make sales final unless a written exception applies. The separate guarantee covers three membership payments under conditions, with a request deadline 30 days after the first 90 days; not a medication refund. FAQ describes a 48-hour refill response window. [13] [14] [46]
Hone Health Monthly membership; medication ordered separately Submit the cancellation form; no partial-month credit. Canceling membership does not cancel pending medication shipments. Medication refunds depend on processing status; shipped kits have refund limits. Address each order separately. [20]
Taurus Meds Auto-renewing subscription Cancel at least 72 hours before renewal or another cycle may be charged. Generally no cancellation refund; the policy separately addresses medical disqualification. [23]
TRT Nation 2.5-month minimum purchase Refills aren't automatic; purchases generally not refundable. [28]
Defy Medical Pay per service Main-site and patient-portal terms differ on lab-order validity and unused-lab refunds. Ask which terms apply; consultations are not refundable merely because treatment is not prescribed. [50] [51]

Ask the clinic to state separately when a payment, lab order, pharmacy preparation, and shipment become nonrefundable. Do not assume that canceling the account stops all of them, or that a policy on one page overrides the terms of your actual purchase.

Will online TRT rules change after December 31, 2026?

Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance and requires a valid prescription. Through December 31, 2026, a temporary federal rule permits qualifying telemedicine prescribing without a prior in-person medical evaluation, subject to its conditions and other applicable law. That is not permission for every clinic to prescribe from a questionnaire, and it does not settle what rules will apply in 2027. [36] [37]

"Schedule III" means federal law controls how testosterone is prescribed and dispensed. [36] The DEA and HHS extended the temporary telemedicine flexibilities through December 31, 2026. For testosterone, the relevant pathway requires qualifying real-time audio-video care by an appropriately authorized prescriber, for a legitimate medical purpose and in compliance with applicable federal and state rules. A provider's marketing list does not establish that it meets those requirements for your appointment. [37] [53]

What to ask any clinic now: "If an in-person exam is required for my care, how will you arrange it and what will it cost?" A clear answer helps you plan. Recheck the current rule with the clinic before relying on an appointment or refill after December 31, 2026; an extension or replacement rule should not be assumed. [37]

How did we compare IAM and its alternatives?

We compared accessible public pricing, program, state, pharmacy, and policy material on October 13, 2026, and recalculated the models shown here. A published statement is evidence of what a provider says, not independent confirmation of delivered care, licensure, or an individual bill. This comparison does not assign providers numeric scores.

Our method follows How We Review TRT Providers. Every fact on this page falls into one of four buckets:

  • Document-verified: the contents of the cited provider pages, official medical or regulatory sources, and our arithmetic from stated inputs.
  • Provider-stated: service claims we could not independently confirm, such as state availability, support hours, clinician continuity, or actual monitoring delivery. A claim can be verified as published and still remain provider-stated.
  • Customer experience: attributable reviews. These describe one person's experience. They can't prove safety, results, or current policy.
  • Our judgment: conclusions like "best for" or "who should pick something else," built only from the facts above.

Our math: IAM's 52-week model = course price × 5.2, plus assumed shipping per order, one initial panel, and three follow-up panels. The cash scenario assumes six purchases at weeks 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50. Membership examples use stated start fees and 12 membership months, adding medication only where a starting medication price is available. These are labeled models or subtotals, not complete personal quotes. Unknown charges are not treated as $0.

What we didn't do: enroll, buy medication, contact support, test cancellation, or verify individual clinician licenses. Some public material could not be fully read, including IAM's expanded help-center and terms text, so we did not carry its detailed policy claims forward as verified. This page hasn't been medically reviewed. Read our editorial standards. See something out of date? Tell us through our provider-data and corrections page.

What else should you know about IAMHRT alternatives?

The right comparison depends on the reason for leaving IAM, not just an advertised monthly rate. These answers cover the remaining cost, state, pharmacy, testing, refund, and fertility questions without assuming that a new clinic will accept your existing treatment unchanged.

What is the best alternative to IAMHRT?

It depends on why you're leaving. Male Excel's stated dedicated-provider model and Hone Plus's included follow-up labs address different needs. Local care may fit insurance, an approved product, a complex review, or fertility questions better. If price is your only concern, compare complete quotes before changing care. [12] [15] [32] [43]

Is there a cheaper alternative to IAM?

Possibly, but a complete saving is not established here. IAM Essential's $2,031 model includes medication and assumed shipping and labs. Hone Plus's $1,710–$1,715 in-lab subtotal excludes medication. TRT Nation's lower published rate has prepaid blocks and separate labs, while Taurus has an unresolved fee clause. Get like-for-like quotes. [1] [3] [15] [16] [22] [24] [25]

Is IAMHRT legit?

IAM publishes telehealth programs and says it has provided online care since 2020. That does not independently verify your prescriber's license or the quality of care. Its Trustpilot profile has 34 reviews and no reviews in the past 12 months in the material checked. Ask who will prescribe and which pharmacy will dispense before paying. [6] [11] [53]

How much does IAMHRT cost per month?

The listed men's prices annualize to about $113 a month for Essential or $156 for Complete before shipping and labs. IAM advertises a 10-week supply price, not that monthly bill. Its panels are $125 initially and $150 for follow-up; our $20-per-order shipping assumption needs confirmation on the testosterone quote. [1] [3] [48]

Is IAM's testosterone compounded?

IAM publishes a compounded-medication notice, but this check did not establish the exact testosterone product and pharmacy every patient receives. Ask for the finished product's name and manufacturer or compounder. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. [35] [49]

Which states does IAM serve?

IAM says it serves 48 states, all except Alaska and Hawaii. Neither Male Excel nor either men's Hone hormone plan lists seven of those states: AL, AR, CT, LA, MN, NH, and RI. Published availability is not a guarantee of clinical acceptance. [6] [13] [17]

Does IAM take insurance?

IAM says it is self-pay, accepts HSA and FSA payments, and can provide a superbill you can submit yourself. Whether an expense is eligible or reimbursed depends on the account and plan; acceptance of a payment card is not an insurance guarantee. [43] [44]

Can I get a refund from IAM?

The current medication cutoff and unused-lab refund entitlement were not confirmed in this check. Ask IAM for the policy that applies to your purchase and the exact status of any pending order. Do not assume that unused medication or an unused lab order is refundable.

Can I transfer my IAM prescription to another clinic?

Not automatically. A new clinician must review you and decide what to prescribe. Bring your original diagnostic records, recent monitoring labs, prescription details, and pharmacy information; ask who will manage the clinical handoff. [32] [33]

Will I need new labs to switch?

Not necessarily for every test. Some clinics review recent outside results, while others require their own testing or additional markers. Hone describes a confirming test in its new TRT pathway, and TRT Nation's pages disagree about the age of acceptable outside results. Get written acceptance before buying replacements. [15] [26] [27] [30]

Does IAM offer hCG or gonadorelin?

IAM's men's Complete tier lists gonadorelin. Its current hCG availability and product were not established in this check. Gonadorelin and hCG are not testosterone replacement, and neither should be treated as a guarantee of fertility. [1] [32] [52]

Is Male Excel better than IAM?

Male Excel says it offers a dedicated provider, 60-day check-ins, and phone support. That is a service model to investigate, not proof of better care than IAM. Its starting injection example is $696 above the IAM Essential model before Male Excel shipping; your actual quotes may differ. [12] [45]

Does enclomiphene protect fertility?

Fertility preservation is not guaranteed. Enclomiphene has no FDA-approved use and is not testosterone replacement. Discuss current or future fertility goals with a urologist or reproductive urologist rather than relying on a clinic's marketing claim. [32] [41]

What are the best IAMHRT alternatives for women?

Options to investigate include Hone Premium for Women, Defy Medical, and a gynecology, menopause, or sexual-medicine clinician. A women's program listing is not proof that its testosterone treatment fits the evidence for your condition. Men's diagnostic rules and program prices do not apply. [19] [31] [39]

What happens to online TRT after December 31, 2026?

The current temporary federal flexibility ends on that date. A later extension, replacement, or other lawful prescribing pathway could affect what happens next; do not assume either automatic continuity or automatic loss of care. Ask the clinic how it will handle any required in-person evaluation. [37]
