Private MD Labs Testosterone Reviews: Is It Legit, and Which Test Should You Order?

Private MD Labs testosterone reviews are strong, and its lab-ordering service has tests from $55. It can fit cash-pay readers with a clinician to review results. Confirm any included consultation before buying. Diagnosing testosterone deficiency requires symptoms or signs plus consistently low morning testosterone results; two-order examples below cost $110–$291 before extras.

And watch the menu. Two pairs of tests sit exactly $1 apart: one adds markers for a dollar, while the other swaps them. We'll show you which ones below.

Best for you if:

  • Your doctor won't order a testosterone test, or keeps putting it off, and you have a plan for clinical follow-up.
  • You're already on TRT and want to compare monitoring costs with your prescriber's lab order.
  • You want to pay cash without an insurance claim, or use an HSA/FSA card.

Not for you if:

  • You live in New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, or Hawaii. Lab testing isn't offered there.
  • Your covered, clinician-ordered lab work costs less out of pocket.
  • You need a confirmed live results consultation included in the purchase. (Jump to options with a conversation included)
  • You're trying to have a baby soon. Start with a reproductive urologist, not a self-ordered panel.

Educational information, not medical advice. This page can't diagnose low testosterone or tell you what your results mean. If you have chest pain, trouble breathing, sudden weakness, or another urgent symptom, call 911 or go to an emergency room.

TRT Provider Guide is the independent decision resource for testosterone replacement therapy — helping U.S. adults understand how low testosterone is evaluated, compare online and local care models and providers, and choose the next step that fits their health needs, fertility plans, budget, state, and care preferences, with every material claim verified and dated.

Is Private MD Labs legit for testosterone testing?

Yes: Private MD Labs offers physician-authorized lab orders through Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp, says it has operated since 2005, and had a 4.9/5 Trustpilot rating from 3,179 reviews at this check. A standard lab order is not a diagnosis or an ongoing treatment plan.

Here's the simple version of how it works.

  1. You pick a test online. No doctor visit.
  2. A physician on PMD's platform signs the lab order. Private MD Labs says every order is physician-reviewed. Its clinical partners are OpenLoop Healthcare Partners, PC, and Jennifer Frangos, DO, who is named on its Platform Providers page with state license numbers.
  3. You book a draw at a Quest or Labcorp site in the network you chose at checkout. Bring a photo ID. Book ahead and check your chosen location's walk-in policy.
  4. Result notifications arrive by email and text, and the reports live in your online portal where you can track trends.

That's the lab-ordering process: you receive a physician-authorized requisition without an office visit. A requisition is the order you take to the lab. See PMD's results process and Quest's appointment guidance.

What the fine print says about the doctor

This matters more than any badge. Private MD Labs' own terms say its lab-ordering service doesn't have a traditional doctor-patient relationship with you, and that a test doesn't diagnose or treat anything. The physician signs the order. A lab order alone does not establish ongoing care; section 16 says any clinical relationship is with the independent clinician. Read the terms.

PMD's results pages also add plain-language "doctor notes." Treat them as education. The demo on its total LC/MS/MS product page labels 375 ng/dL as "below optimal" using a 400–1,000 range. That displayed band is not a diagnostic rule. It isn't how guidelines diagnose low testosterone, as you'll see below.

Which Private MD Labs testosterone test or male hormone panel should you order?

Match the test to your clinician's request, not to the panel's name. The ten options below run from $55 to $395, and similar-sounding packages can contain very different markers. The $62 LC/MS/MS test is a focused total-T option; the $138 hormone panel adds free T, LH, FSH, estradiol, and a blood count.

We compared ten Private MD Labs testosterone options and lined them up the same way. This decoder puts price, method, included markers, prep, and turnaround side by side. You'd need to open about ten product pages to build it.

Prices are PMD's displayed promotional and list prices, not verified checkout totals. The displayed prices are about 20% below list; list prices are about 25% above them. Some broader panels also add lipids, metabolic panels, or thyroid tests as noted on each product page. "—" means not listed on the product page we checked. Free-T methods were not confirmed except where dialysis is named. Prep and turnaround are provider-stated; for diagnosis, follow your clinician's fasting-morning instructions. Displayed list-price sources include the free-testosterone category and Light panel category listing.

The two $1 traps

Here's the open loop from the top, closed.

  • $79 vs. $80. The Free and Total test costs $79. For one dollar more, the Free, Bioavailable and Total test adds SHBG, albumin, and bioavailable testosterone. The $80 option lists more results for $1 more; confirm that its free-T method and included tests match your clinician's request.
  • $137 vs. $138. The TRT Follow-up ($137) and the E2 Ultrasensitive panel ($138) look like twins. They aren't. The Follow-up has SHBG, PSA, and lipids but no estradiol and no LH/FSH. The $138 panel has estradiol, LH, and FSH but no PSA and no SHBG. Pick by what your clinician wants checked, not by which name sounds bigger.

Plain-English terms you'll see

  • Total testosterone: all the testosterone in your blood, bound and unbound.
  • Free testosterone: the small part not stuck to proteins.
  • SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin): a protein that grabs testosterone. High or low SHBG can make total and free numbers tell different stories.
  • LH and FSH (luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone): signals from the brain telling the testes to work. They help a clinician see why testosterone is low.
  • Estradiol: the main estrogen. Check the exact method; "ultrasensitive" is a test label, not proof that every such assay performs identically.
  • Hematocrit: the share of your blood made of red blood cells. It's part of a CBC (complete blood count).
  • PSA (prostate-specific antigen): a prostate blood marker.
  • Immunoassay vs. LC/MS/MS: two lab methods. LC/MS/MS (liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry) is a highly specific method that's especially useful at low levels.

Free testosterone method matters. The Endocrine Society recommends checking free testosterone when total testosterone is near the lower limit or when something may be changing SHBG, and it recommends measuring free T by equilibrium dialysis or estimating it with an accurate formula. Among the ten compared here, the $89 test explicitly names dialysis for free testosterone. Confirm the required free-T method with your clinician. LC/MS/MS in a title does not tell you how free T is obtained. See the Endocrine Society guideline and Quest's method explanation.

What none of these include: prolactin

The American Urological Association (AUA) says prolactin should be measured when testosterone is low and LH is low or low-normal. None of the ten tests above includes prolactin. If testosterone is low and LH is low or low-normal, a clinician may request it. AUA guidance.

Compare the test that fits your clinician's request:

Is one Private MD Labs testosterone test enough to know if your testosterone is low?

No: the American Urological Association requires symptoms or signs plus consistently low results on two separate early-morning total testosterone tests for diagnosis. The four two-order examples below cost $110 to $291 before extra tests, collection fees, or a clinical visit.

The right TRT provider is not the same for every person — it depends on whether low testosterone has been properly evaluated, your symptoms and health history, your fertility plans, your state, your insurance or cash-pay preference, your treatment-format preference, your budget, and whether online or in-person care is the better starting point. Some situations belong with primary care, urology, endocrinology, reproductive urology, or urgent or emergency care when the symptoms warrant it. Because a general answer cannot resolve those for you, use TRT Provider Guide's Find My TRT Path tool to map your situation to the right care route and the questions to ask before you pay. The tool is educational and non-diagnostic.

Buying one test, getting one number, and stopping there can miss the clinical follow-up you need. That's the mistake this section helps you skip.

What the guidelines actually require

  • AUA: uses a total testosterone level below 300 ng/dL as "a reasonable cut-off," but only after two early-morning tests on separate occasions, and only with symptoms or signs. Neither a low number alone nor symptoms alone is enough.
  • Repeat-test method: ask your clinician or lab to confirm the same total-testosterone assay for both diagnostic tests.
  • Endocrine Society: measure fasting, morning total testosterone with an accurate assay, then confirm by repeating it.

Sources: AUA's guideline summary and Endocrine Society recommendations.

For a new diagnostic evaluation, plan separate morning tests with the exact assay confirmed. PMD has you choose an available lab network at checkout, and changing locations stays within that network. The same company and a matching method label do not prove two panels use the same assay. Already on TRT? Follow your prescriber's draw timing; it depends on the treatment format.

What two morning tests cost through Private MD Labs

Private MD Labs testosterone tests, methods, fees and clinical follow-up table 4: What two morning tests cost through Private MD Labs
Two-order example Draw 1 Repeat order, if requested Test-only total Other tests your clinician may request
Two total-T immunoassay orders Total T, Male, IA ($55) Total T, Male, IA ($55) $110 LH, blood count, PSA when indicated; prolactin if low T accompanies low or low-normal LH
Two total-T LC/MS/MS orders Total T LC/MS/MS ($62) Total T LC/MS/MS ($62) $124 Same as above
E2 panel + total T E2 Ultrasensitive & F&T Panel ($138) Total T LC/MS/MS ($62) $200 Prolactin if low T accompanies low or low-normal LH; SHBG when indicated
Checkup panel + total T Men's Hormone Health Checkup ($229) Total T LC/MS/MS ($62) $291 Prolactin if low T accompanies low or low-normal LH; SHBG when indicated

Pairing note: the $55 test and $97 Light panel share the advertised immunoassay category; the other examples share LC/MS/MS labels. Confirm the exact total-T assay before using different panels for repeat diagnostic testing. These are price examples, not a testing schedule. A second diagnostic test is a separate purchase; it is not included in the first test's price.

Your lab-day checklist

  • For diagnosis, go early. PMD's own testosterone pages suggest an 8–10 a.m. draw on two different mornings. For monitoring on TRT, follow your prescriber's timing.
  • Confirm fasting. The Endocrine Society recommends fasting morning tests for diagnosis; some PMD panels require 12–14 hours.
  • Tell your clinician and lab about biotin. Follow the hold time for your exact tests; high doses can interfere with some immunoassays. See Quest's biotin guidance.
  • Already using a testosterone cream? Tell your prescriber and the person drawing your blood; cream near the draw site can contaminate the sample. Ask your prescriber when to test relative to your dose and how to follow the exact test's prep rules. Don't change your treatment to get a "better" number. Published case series.
  • PSA on the panel? Avoid ejaculation for 24 hours, as MedlinePlus advises, and follow your lab's instructions.

See a clinician soon, not just a lab, if a result is very low, or you have breast swelling, ongoing headaches or vision changes, testicle problems, fertility concerns, or a history of prostate or breast cancer. Sudden severe headache, sudden vision loss, or sudden severe testicular pain needs emergency assessment; do not wait for retail labs. Headache and vision warning; testicular pain guidance.

How much does a Private MD Labs testosterone test really cost?

The ten Private MD Labs options compared here cost $55 to $395 as of October 23, 2026. PMD says the lab fee and physician order are included, insurance isn't accepted, and HSA/FSA cards are. Collection fees can apply at a few sites, such as two Quest locations in Arizona.

The "$1 today" offer, explained

Eligible new customers can pay $1 at checkout. Then PMD automatically charges the rest when any result posts, including a partial result. It's a payment-timing perk, not a discount. You still owe the full order total. One catch from PMD's terms: if you cancel, that $1 comes back only as site credit.

Insurance, HSA, and FSA

Private MD Labs is self-pay only and won't file insurance claims, including Medicare. It does accept HSA and FSA cards. Check your plan's rules before counting on reimbursement. PMD offers detailed receipts, but says it cannot add diagnosis codes or provider information for an insurance claim. Insurance policy; HSA/FSA policy.

If your insurance covers lab work with a low copay and your doctor will order the test, compare your total out-of-pocket cost. Private MD Labs gives you another way to order labs; it does not guarantee a lower bill or faster results.

Discounts and subscriptions

  • PMD offers text-signup discounts and referral credits. Codes change often, and terms limit stacking.
  • "Subscribe & Save" automatically renews repeat orders; PMD's terms list 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. Check which intervals your checkout offers. You must cancel at least 48 hours before the next billing date. If you cancel before the first renewal, PMD's terms let it charge back the subscription discount.
  • Big sale warning: PMD's terms say orders placed during sitewide sales (like Black Friday) are final sale. Orders using a referral discount aren't refundable either.

Our take: For one or two tests, a one-time order is simpler. Use a subscription only if your prescriber has set a regular testing schedule.

What's the catch? Refunds, the money-back badge, and results time

Private MD Labs' "90-day money-back guarantee" does not cover an order with a result flagged low. Eligible cancellations before your blood draw default to account credit; cash refunds have separate limits, and promotional orders can have stricter rules.

We read the badges, then the terms behind them. Here's how they line up.

Private MD Labs testosterone tests, methods, fees and clinical follow-up table 5: What's the catch? Refunds, the money-back badge, and results time
What the page says What PMD's terms and help pages say (Oct 2026) What it means for you
"90-day money back … No questions asked refunds" First-time customers only. No STD or sickle cell tests. No "high," "low," "abnormal," "alert," or "critical" flags in your results. Collection within 90 days of ordering. Claim within 15 days of results posting. Gift orders excluded Eligibility follows the report's flags; a clinician's diagnostic threshold may differ from the lab's reference range
"Can I cancel? Yes." Eligible cancellations must precede collection. The help page offers 100% account credit by default. Cash refunds are quoted per order, require credit-card payment, and must be requested within 21 days of payment. A credit-to-cash request must reach PMD within 48 hours of credit issuance; original eligibility limits still apply Don't pre-buy a "just in case" second draw unless you'll use it
"Prescription & all lab fees included" True for the lab order. Two Arizona Quest sites add a $30 or $35 draw fee Check your draw site before you pay
Discounted follow-up offer Paid upfront; no refund after 24 hours from purchase Check these separate rules before prepaying a second draw
Order changes $15 fee per change once an order is processed Double-check your test before checkout
Your order "never expires" The lab requisition is good for 12 months. A reissue is usually free, but you may pay any price increase, and PMD can charge up to $15 Book your draw within the year
Results timing PMD calls turnaround times estimates from Quest or Labcorp, not guarantees Don't schedule a doctor visit around a promised date

Sources: cancellation help, guarantee conditions, requisition expiry, and terms, including promotional exceptions.

How long results take, by test

  • 1–3 business days: Men's Hormone Light Test (immunoassay).
  • About 7 business days: Free and Total, Free/Bioavailable/Total, TRT Follow-up, and Optimization.
  • About 7 days: dialysis + SHBG; PMD does not specify business days.
  • About 10 business days: panels with ultrasensitive estradiol. PMD flags lab-wide delays on that marker.

If those terms work for you, check current Private MD Labs prices →

Does Private MD Labs include a doctor to explain your results?

A standard Private MD Labs purchase includes a physician-authorized lab order and written result notes; we could not confirm an included live consultation. Quest's consumer test and Hone's advertised $65 testing offer explicitly include a results conversation, while ongoing treatment is a separate question.

Here's the trade, said plainly.

Do not buy a standard PMD lab order assuming it includes a live doctor visit and a plan for what happens next. PMD's results-help page offers help reading results, but says it cannot explain why levels are out of range or recommend changes. If that's your priority, compare a test that explicitly includes a clinician conversation:

  • Quest's consumer site sells its total testosterone test for $69 plus a $6 physician service fee ($75 total). Quest says you can discuss your results with an independent healthcare provider at no extra cost. Results are estimated in 3–5 business days. Its consumer service does not offer collection in Arizona, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico.
  • Hone Health advertises $65 for advanced lab testing on 50+ biomarkers plus a private telehealth consult with a licensed physician. Its plan page puts that offer on the Premium path: $155 a month plus medication if you continue. Basic is a separate path: its initial test is $25 plus a $25 onboarding fee, membership is $25 a month, and consultations cost extra. The $65 offer alone is not a first-year treatment price.

Private MD Labs still offers a one-time lab purchase from $55, with no membership required. That is the useful fit for someone already working with a clinician: you order the tests your prescriber accepts, and you bring the report to them.

Can you use Private MD Labs in your state?

Private MD Labs says its lab testing is available in 46 states. It doesn't serve New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, or Hawaii, and its terms bar residents of New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. Arizona has extra limits on Quest locations.

Private MD Labs testosterone tests, methods, fees and clinical follow-up table 6: Can you use Private MD Labs in your state?
State Status (Oct 2026) What to do
New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island Not served; residents barred by PMD's terms Use a clinician-ordered test, or check the alternatives below
Hawaii Not served; PMD says its partner labs have no patient service centers there Use a clinician-ordered test
Arizona Quest draws only at two sites, each with an added fee: ExpressCare Labs in Phoenix ($30) and PediaLabs in Tempe ($35). Labcorp sites still available Compare available Labcorp options and their final charges
All other states PMD lists lab testing as available Check the available lab company and nearby collection sites

Don't use another state's address to get around these rules. PMD's terms say it can cancel orders from barred states. Sources: detailed state policy and Arizona fees.

Your Private MD Labs results are back. What now?

Private MD Labs results show your numbers and offer general notes, but they don't diagnose low testosterone or decide treatment. If two early-morning results are low and you have symptoms, the next step is a clinician who can look for causes, check the labs guidelines recommend before treatment, and ask about fertility plans.

What a careful clinician will usually check before treatment

These are clinical questions to discuss before testosterone therapy, based on AUA and Endocrine Society guidance. Use the table to see what your PMD panel covers; not every test is needed by every person.

Private MD Labs testosterone tests, methods, fees and clinical follow-up table 7: What a careful clinician will usually check before treatment
Clinical evaluation or pre-treatment question Which PMD tests include it
Two early-morning total testosterone tests for diagnosis A suitable total-testosterone test, repeated as directed (see the cost examples above)
LH, when testosterone is low Light Test, $138 panel, Checkup, Optimization Panel
Prolactin, when low T accompanies low or low-normal LH None of the ten. Ask about an add-on if indicated
Hemoglobin and hematocrit Light Test, TRT Follow-up, $138 panel, Checkup, Optimization Panel
PSA, when your clinician requests it before TRT TRT Follow-up, Checkup, Optimization Panel
Estradiol, if your clinician requests it for breast symptoms Light Test and Optimization (standard); $138 panel and Checkup (ultrasensitive)
Fertility evaluation, if you want children Not a blood panel. See a reproductive urologist

If you want kids, read this first

Testosterone therapy can lower sperm production. The Endocrine Society recommends against testosterone therapy for men planning fertility in the near term. A hormone panel is not a semen analysis. Talk to a clinician experienced in male fertility, such as a reproductive urologist, before starting TRT. Our guide on TRT and fertility explains the options.

If your results are normal but you still feel off

Low testosterone isn't the only cause of fatigue, low libido, or poor sleep. Sleep problems, thyroid issues, low iron, mood, and some medications can play a role. MedlinePlus explains possible causes of fatigue. See how low testosterone is diagnosed for what a full evaluation looks at.

If your results are low and you want ongoing online TRT care

If a clinician has confirmed the diagnosis and you're looking for a long-term online clinic, here's one option whose public terms we checked, with its tradeoffs in plain view.

Private MD Labs testosterone tests, methods, fees and clinical follow-up table 8: If your results are low and you want ongoing online TRT care
Male Excel Provider-stated terms checked October 23, 2026
Cost $99 initial test/consultation, then $99/month membership plus medication. Initial fee + 12 membership payments = $1,287 before medication and shipping
Medication price examples Its price page lists testosterone-plus-thyroid packages from $120/month for injections or $132/month for cream, billed every other month for a 60-day supply. These are package prices, not a quote for testosterone alone; thyroid treatment requires its own clinical reason. Shipping/handling is extra
12-month rate model Initial fee + 12 membership payments + 12 months at the starting medication rate: $2,727 for the injection package or $2,871 for the cream package, before shipping/handling and any other applicable charges. This is not a complete first-year quote; confirm the prescribed plan, charge and refill dates, and all fees in writing
What membership includes Provider access, check-ins every 60 days, full blood panels every 6 months
Testing At-home finger-prick kit measuring total testosterone, estradiol, DHEA-S, free T3, and PSA. Male Excel says testing is processed at its own Excel Medical Labs in North Carolina, which it describes as CLIA-certified; we did not independently match a laboratory certificate
Medication Compounded testosterone: its price page names testosterone cypionate injections and testosterone in a Lipoderm cream base. Male Excel's own disclosure says compounded medications are not FDA-approved. Confirm the formulation and dispensing pharmacy for your prescription
Not available in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Rhode Island
Worth knowing Male Excel says its providers may prescribe before lab results arrive when they judge it clinically appropriate. For a new diagnosis, ask how the clinician confirms consistently low morning results before treatment; do not assume outside PMD reports will be accepted. It also notes that DEA and state laws may require an in-person exam
Refills and cancellation Male Excel says it uses 60-day refill assessments and allows cancellation without a contract. Its terms generally make sales, subscription fees, and other charges nonrefundable; confirm the cutoff before the next charge or shipment
Possible fit Someone with a confirmed diagnosis whose clinician identifies a medical need for a compounded preparation and whose care needs fit this cash-pay program
Not for Men who want an FDA-approved product billed to insurance, or men in the states above

Sources: Male Excel's membership and availability disclosures, initial test, medication pricing, refill FAQ, and terms. These are public claims, not a checkout or clinical-service test. FDA explains that compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and should be used when a patient's needs cannot be met by an approved drug.

Before choosing this route, ask the clinician to confirm the diagnosis, the reason for compounding, the exact medication and pharmacy, and the full cost in writing.

Does Private MD Labs offer TRT now?

Yes: Private MD Labs advertises online testosterone replacement therapy in injection, cream, and tablet formats through independent clinicians. The pages we checked on October 23, 2026 did not identify a complete price, exact medication, or FDA-approved versus compounded status, so ask before paying.

Here's what's public and what isn't.

What PMD says publicly:

  • Treatment formats: injections, cream, and tablets.
  • Clinicians: OpenLoop Healthcare Partners, PC, and Jennifer Frangos, DO.
  • General telemedicine availability: PMD says all 50 states, even where its lab testing is unavailable. That does not establish TRT prescribing availability in every state.

What we could not establish from those pages:

  • Monthly or yearly price, including labs, medication, shipping, and follow-up visits.
  • The exact medication and formulation, and whether it is FDA-approved or compounded.
  • Which pharmacy fills it.
  • How it handles fertility, refills, monitoring, minimum commitments, refunds, cancellation, and record access.

PMD's TRT page says most patients notice improvements within 2–4 weeks. That's the company's claim, not something the guidelines we cite here support as a typical result.

Know the law. Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance and requires a valid prescription. The DEA/HHS temporary extension runs through December 31, 2026: DEA-registered clinicians may prescribe Schedule II–V drugs after an audio-video visit without a prior in-person examination when all federal and state requirements are met. That date matters. The rule does not guarantee a prescription or remove a state or prescriber's in-person requirement.

Questions to ask before you pay any online TRT program:

  1. What's the full first-year cost, including labs and medication?
  2. What exact drug and formulation are you prescribing, and is it FDA-approved or compounded?
  3. Which pharmacy dispenses it?
  4. How do you handle fertility?
  5. When will you repeat hormone and blood-count tests, and is PSA monitoring appropriate for me?
  6. How do I cancel, and what happens to my prescription?
  7. What are the refill deadlines, shipping charges, refund rules, and minimum commitment?
  8. How do I get a complete copy of my lab and treatment records?

What do Private MD Labs testosterone reviews actually say?

Private MD Labs reviews are overwhelmingly positive: Trustpilot shows 4.9 out of 5, with 94% five-star reviews in our October 2026 check. The individual reviews we read praised ordering, prices, results, and support. Reviews can describe the buying experience, but they can't show whether a test is right for you.

What people praise:

  • Ordering without fighting a doctor for a referral.
  • Cash prices they considered affordable.
  • Results for basic tests arriving quickly.
  • Support that fixes order problems fast.

One September 2026 Trustpilot reviewer, Adam, put the core appeal plainly: "Great way to get bloodwork when I can't afford health insurance in this economy."

Another reviewer, Willy Saurina, described support adding extra tests the day after his draw, which saved him a second trip. Both entries list September 3, 2026 as the experience date on the original review page. These are individual reports, not a promise that a lab can add tests after your draw.

A mixed customer report: Lysa Kenyon's review, with an October 12, 2026 experience date, praised ordering and scheduling but described subscription confusion, texts that did not reach support, and trouble finding a referral credit. That is one customer's account, not a measured complaint rate. Read the review.

Separate from customer reviews, PMD does let you build a custom panel, and its product pages flag ultrasensitive estradiol delays. Those are provider disclosures, not verified review themes.

Two things to know about the rating itself: Trustpilot notes that Private MD Labs hasn't invited customers to review recently, and that it typically takes over a month to reply to negative reviews, though it has replied to 100% of them in this snapshot.

Private MD Labs vs. Labcorp OnDemand, Quest, and other options

Private MD Labs offers the ten-test menu decoded above, including total T by LC/MS/MS for $62. Quest includes an optional results discussion for $75, and Hone advertises a $65 broad-testing offer with a consultation. Labcorp OnDemand's sale prices may be lower for a focused test; compare the method, included care, and final price.

Option First testosterone test Price (Oct 23, 2026) Clinician conversation included? Good to know
Private MD Labs Total T LC/MS/MS $62 ($55 immunoassay) Live consultation not confirmed for a standard lab order Ten options decoded above; not in NY, NJ, RI, HI
Quest (questhealth.com) Total testosterone $75 ($69 + $6 physician fee) Yes, with an independent provider Results 3–5 business days; fasting, morning draw recommended; no collection in AZ, HI, PR
Labcorp OnDemand Total testosterone $69 ($51.75 advertised sale at this check) Ordering oversight included; confirm whether your order includes a results consultation Reports values above 1,500 ng/dL as above that limit. Its Comprehensive test ($159; $119.25 advertised sale) adds calculated free T, SHBG, and albumin
Hone Health 50+ biomarker panel $65 advertised offer Yes, physician telehealth consult Premium then $155/month plus medication; Basic is a separate $25/month path with an onboarding fee and consultations extra
Clinician-ordered test Whatever your doctor orders Depends on your insurance Through your clinician; the visit may be billed separately Best when you need a diagnosis or insurance coverage

Sources: Quest, Labcorp total T, Labcorp Comprehensive, and Hone plans. Labcorp's PWNHealth agreement describes an eligible post-test consultation at no extra cost, while its EnProvider agreement describes ordering authorization and refers follow-up to your own clinician. Confirm which applies to your order. The Labcorp products are labeled for adults assigned male at birth; the Comprehensive test cannot calculate free T when total T exceeds its reporting limit.

If you're X, compare Y:

  • Your doctor won't order it: Private MD Labs can provide an order, but arrange clinical follow-up for the results.
  • You want a pro to talk through results: Quest's site or Hone.
  • You live in NY, NJ, RI, or HI: a clinician-ordered test. Check each consumer lab's state rules before buying.
  • You need free T and SHBG in one test: compare PMD's $80 test with Labcorp's Comprehensive test, and confirm the required free-T method.
  • You're on TRT and need monitoring: PMD's $137 TRT Follow-up, if it matches your prescriber's order and they accept outside labs.

Before you pay: your Private MD Labs order checklist

The best way to avoid paying twice is to confirm three things before checkout: the exact test your clinician wants, the lab company and draw site you'll use, and the refund terms for your purchase type. Write the answers down and keep them with your receipt.

Copy this list into your notes app. It can help avoid a repeat draw.

About the test

  • Exact Private MD Labs product name and link
  • Which markers my clinician wants (total T, free T, SHBG, LH, estradiol, CBC, PSA, prolactin)
  • Which method my clinician requires (immunoassay or LC/MS/MS; how free T is measured or calculated)
  • Will my clinician accept a self-ordered Private MD Labs report? How recent must it be?

About the draw

  • Lab company, draw site, and exact total-T assay confirmed for any diagnostic repeat
  • For diagnosis: separate early-morning tests as requested; for TRT monitoring: my prescriber's timing
  • Fasting and other prep rules for this exact test
  • Any added draw fee at my site

About the money

  • One-time order or subscription (and the renewal date)
  • Sale or referral discount? Those orders may be non-refundable
  • My order's refund eligibility, cash amount, and deadline; any shorter follow-up-offer window

About what's next

  • Who will review my results with me, and when
  • Any fertility plans I need to raise first

Questions to send your clinician: "I'm considering a Private MD Labs order. Will you accept its report? Which lab, test method, and markers do you want? Is prolactin or any other test needed in my case?"

How we researched this review

We checked Private MD Labs' product pages, prices, terms, refund and guarantee rules, state limits, and clinician disclosures on October 23, 2026, and compared them with American Urological Association and Endocrine Society testing guidance. We did not buy a test, visit a lab, or contact support.

What we actually verified

Date checked: October 23, 2026.

Sources checked: Ten Private MD Labs product pages; its testosterone and male hormone category pages; Terms and Conditions (updated August 24, 2026); refund and money-back help pages; state availability and Arizona pages; Platform Providers page; TRT page; Trustpilot; AUA's published guideline summary; Endocrine Society guideline; Quest, Labcorp OnDemand, Hone Health, and Male Excel product pages.

Verified from official pages: what providers published about prices, test contents, prep rules, turnaround, refund and guarantee conditions, state exclusions, Arizona draw fees, clinician names, and competitor prices. Our cost totals are arithmetic from those posted prices, not checkout quotes.

Provider-stated (not independently tested): "since 2005," physician review of every order, displayed LegitScript badge, Rite Aid ownership, turnaround estimates, lab and clinician credentials, TRT offering details.

Could not confirm: the free-testosterone method on most PMD tests; which lab company runs each specific panel; whether your clinician will accept a PMD report; an included live consultation with a standard lab order; PMD's complete TRT prices, exact medication, pharmacy, and state-by-state prescribing access; current independent certification or license status; real-world support response times and checkout totals.

Not done: hands-on purchase, clinical review of this page.

Our method keeps four things separate: verified facts, provider-stated facts, customer-experience signals, and our own editorial judgment. Read the full process in How We Review TRT Providers. We don't assign star ratings or numeric scores. See our editorial standards, privacy policy, and provider-data correction form.

Private MD Labs testosterone FAQ

A PMD lab order can provide test results, but it does not settle a diagnosis or guarantee an included clinical visit. The answers below separate the test, the purchase terms, and the follow-up care.

Does Private MD Labs use Quest or Labcorp?

PMD works with both. Choose from the lab-network options available for your test at checkout; changing draw sites stays within the selected network.

Do I need a doctor's order to get a testosterone test from Private MD Labs?

No doctor visit is needed. A physician on PMD's platform signs the lab order for you.

Do I need to fast for a Private MD Labs testosterone test?

Some focused testosterone pages say fasting is unnecessary; others do not specify. The broader panels compared here list 12 to 14 hours. For diagnosis, the Endocrine Society recommends a fasting morning draw. Confirm the instructions for your exact test with your clinician.

What time should I get my testosterone tested?

For diagnosis, early morning. PMD's testosterone pages suggest 8 to 10 a.m. on two different days. If you are already on TRT, use your prescriber's timing for that treatment.

How long do Private MD Labs testosterone results take?

About 1 to 3 business days for the Light Test, about 7 business days for several free-testosterone panels, and about 10 business days for the two ultrasensitive-estradiol panels compared here. The dialysis test says about 7 days without specifying business days. These are estimates, not guarantees.

Is the Private MD Labs male hormone panel the same as a testosterone test?

No. A total-testosterone-only test measures just total T. Male hormone panels add markers like LH, FSH, estradiol, a blood count, or PSA. Compare the contents, not the name.

Does Private MD Labs take insurance?

No. It's self-pay only, including for Medicare patients. HSA and FSA cards are accepted.

Can I get a refund from Private MD Labs?

Ordinary cancellations must precede collection. Eligible refunds default to account credit; cash back requires credit-card payment and PMD's deadlines. Sitewide-promotion, referral-discount, gift, and discounted follow-up orders have restrictions. The separate normal-results guarantee can apply after testing if its conditions are met.

Does the 90-day money-back guarantee cover low testosterone?

An order with a result flagged low is ineligible. The guarantee requires that none of your results have a disqualifying flag; it does not use a universal testosterone cutoff.

Is 350 ng/dL low testosterone?

We can't interpret your result. The AUA uses below 300 ng/dL as a reasonable cutoff, but only with symptoms and two early-morning tests. A clinician should review your numbers.

Which states can't use Private MD Labs?

Lab testing isn't available in New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, or Hawaii.

Will my results go to my insurance or my doctor?

PMD says it does not routinely forward results to your own physician or insurer. Its privacy policy allows necessary access by clinicians, staff, and service providers, and disclosures required by law. You can download the report to share with your clinician.

Can women use these tests?

This page covers evaluation for testosterone deficiency in adult men. Women's testosterone ranges and testing needs are different. Talk with your clinician about the right test. Adolescents and people seeking gender-affirming care need their own clinical testing plan; do not apply this page's diagnostic framework to those settings.

The bottom line

Private MD Labs is a cash-pay route to physician-authorized Quest or Labcorp testing, with ten options compared here from $55 to $395. Its useful fit is a test that matches your clinician's request and a clear plan to review the results; one number cannot settle a new diagnosis.

And skip the $1 traps: the $80 test lists extra markers for $1 more than the $79 test, but the method still needs to fit; the $137 and $138 panels check different things.
