Jatenzo Reviews (2026): Does the Testosterone Pill Work, and Is It Worth It?

Jatenzo reviews are mixed. In the study that won FDA approval, 87% of men with confirmed low testosterone reached a normal average level. This needle-free pill may fit men who can manage meals, blood-pressure checks, and the pharmacy bill; uncontrolled blood pressure or near-term fertility plans point toward another care route.1234

That answer changes if your blood pressure isn't controlled, you want to have kids soon, you're on Medicare or Medicaid, or low testosterone hasn't been confirmed with repeat morning blood tests.

Jatenzo may fit you if:

  • A clinician has confirmed low testosterone (hypogonadism) with repeat morning blood tests plus symptoms or signs
  • You're done with needles, or worried about gel rubbing off on a partner or kids
  • You have checked your coverage or received an affordable cash quote for your prescription
  • Your blood pressure is under control

Start somewhere else, or ask your clinician first, if:

  • Your blood pressure is high and not controlled
  • You're trying to conceive or planning fertility
  • Cost is your main concern and you want to compare injection-based care
  • You won't reliably take a capsule twice a day with food
  • You have breast cancer or known or suspected prostate cancer

What we actually verified (October 21, 2026)

Checked against primary sources: Jatenzo's current FDA prescribing information and Medication Guide (revised September 2025); the FDA/HHS testosterone labeling request of June 18, 2026; the American Urological Association's published diagnostic statements and the Endocrine Society guideline; the DEA telemedicine extension; Tolmar's sale records (SEC filings).

Checked as of this date: Tolmar's posted savings terms; discount prices on GoodRx, Drugs.com, SingleCare, and Rx.com; the Drugs.com and WebMD review pages and the Sermo rating URL.

Provider-stated (Tolmar), not independently tested: copay card benefits and network-pharmacy perks.

Customer-experience signals: a few attributable patient posts. They're labeled as personal reports, not proof; we did not verify the writers' medical records or financial relationships.

What we couldn't confirm: which of Tolmar's conflicting cash or denied-coverage prices governs, the exact price for each prescribed quantity, or the calendar-year assistance limit. We couldn't review the fees, lab package, state coverage, dispensing pharmacy, shipping charges, or service policies of JatenzoRx.com, the telehealth service Tolmar links to.

What we didn't do: We didn't take Jatenzo, place an order, or survey patients. This is an evidence review built from public sources. How We Review TRT Providers

The right TRT provider is not the same for every person — it depends on whether low testosterone has been properly evaluated, your symptoms and health history, your fertility plans, your state, your insurance or cash-pay preference, your treatment-format preference, your budget, and whether online or in-person care is the better starting point. Some situations belong with primary care, urology, endocrinology, reproductive urology, or urgent or emergency care when the symptoms warrant it. Because a general answer cannot resolve those for you, use TRT Provider Guide's Find My TRT Path tool to explore care options and prepare the questions to ask before you pay.

Educational information, not medical advice. Your clinician decides whether a medicine fits your diagnosis and health history. Chest pain, trouble breathing, or stroke symptoms need emergency care: call 911.

What do Jatenzo reviews actually say?

Public Jatenzo reviews are limited on the pages we checked, and a rating may cover other testosterone products. As of October 21, 2026, Drugs.com's Jatenzo page had no submitted reviews, WebMD pooled several testosterone products, and we could not confirm the Sermo rating. The individual accounts below describe benefits and problems, but they cannot tell us how often either occurs.349

Here's the problem with searching "Jatenzo reviews." You'll find star ratings, Reddit quotes, and confident percentages. Many of them aren't really about Jatenzo, or they're out of date. So we checked the sources below and sorted them by what each one can and can't tell you.

These sources answer different questions.11011349 The accounts below show why avoiding needles can matter and why cost or side effects can still make the pill a poor fit. They are examples, not a survey.

What men like

The appeal is simple. Here's how Reddit user u/rwaggoner put it:

"And my wife is glad to not have to give me injections."

That's not proof Jatenzo works better. It's a real reason someone might choose it.

What men complain about

The same man described insurance as his biggest frustration:

"The worst part has been getting insurance to cover it."

One WebMD reviewer, MadDogVAQ33, listed as age 75 or older, described blood-pressure and swelling problems after 25 days: "I had to make an ER visit" (August 23, 2025). That's one person's report, not a typical result or proof of the cause. But the trial that got Jatenzo approved included no men over 65, so it's worth knowing.41

Why some Jatenzo reviews online are wrong

Jatenzo's label changed in July 2025. Many pages still describe a "boxed warning" that no longer exists. Others quote review averages we couldn't find anywhere. If a page about Jatenzo doesn't mention the 2025 label update, read it with caution. We list exactly what changed in the safety section below.112

Does Jatenzo work?

In the study used for FDA approval, 145 of 166 men (87%) with confirmed low testosterone reached a normal average testosterone level after about four months. That 87% result measures blood levels, not the share of men whose symptoms improved. Whether you notice a difference depends on your symptoms, your dose, and whether low testosterone was really the cause.110

Jatenzo does what it's designed to do: get testosterone into the normal range for most men who truly need it. One FDA efficacy target was for at least 75% of men to reach a normal average level. Jatenzo hit 87%.131

But "works" can mean two different things. Here's how to read the evidence:

Jatenzo reviews table 3: Does Jatenzo work?
Question What the studies measured What's still personal
Will my testosterone level go up? 87% reached a normal 24-hour average in about 4 months Your dose may need adjusting to get there
Will my symptoms improve? Not the main measure. The pivotal and two-year studies also reported improvement on a psychosexual questionnaire about sexual function and mood. Low energy and low mood have many causes besides low testosterone
Will it keep working? 69 men completed two years; average testosterone remained in the normal range Ongoing blood tests confirm it for you
Will my level spike too high? At the final trial visit measuring levels through the day, 3% had a peak above 2,500 ng/dL Your clinician monitors this

The pivotal trial was open-label: participants knew which treatment they received. In the separate longer study, 86 of 129 eligible men entered the extension and 69 completed two years, so the longer-term results come from a selected group.11011 The 2020 report discloses that Clarus funded the trials it summarizes and that one coauthor was a Clarus employee with an ownership stake.10

Why your dose may change

Your clinician may adjust the prescription using properly timed testosterone tests. Changes can add lab visits and cost during the first months.1

One practical tip: if your lab draw happens at the wrong time of day, the number can mislead your clinician. Ask exactly when to book it.

Why meals matter

Jatenzo needs food to absorb well. In label testing, a low-fat breakfast (15 grams of fat) produced 25% less testosterone exposure compared with a moderate-fat breakfast (30 grams). Those were study meals, not a daily fat target. That doesn't mean you need a greasy breakfast. It means a black-coffee morning won't cut it. Follow your prescriber's or pharmacist's food directions.1

What about how fast it works?

The label doesn't give a timeline for when men feel different, so we won't invent one. Agree with your clinician up front on which symptoms you're tracking and when you'll review them together.

Is Jatenzo safe? Side effects and the blood pressure question

A major risk of Jatenzo is higher blood pressure. On 24-hour monitoring it rose about 4.9/2.5 points on average, and 7.2% of men in the trial started or increased blood pressure medicine. The FDA removed Jatenzo's boxed warning in July 2025, but the label still calls for blood pressure monitoring and says it's not recommended if your blood pressure is uncontrolled.1

Blood pressure increased in men with and without a history of hypertension. The label says this can increase heart and stroke risk over time, so periodic monitoring matters even when starting readings are normal. Here's what the trial found:

Jatenzo reviews table 4: Is Jatenzo safe? Side effects and the blood pressure question
Group in the trial Average change in blood pressure (24-hour monitoring)
Full analysis group (135 men with usable recordings and at least 85% study-drug adherence, day 139) +4.9 top number / +2.5 bottom number
Men already treated for high blood pressure (67 men) +5.4 / +3.2
Men with no history of high blood pressure (63 men) +4.4 / +1.8

Changes are in mm Hg, the unit used for blood pressure. The two named subgroups do not include all 135 men in the analysis.1

Two more details stand out. Average blood pressure hadn't leveled off when the trial ended. And some cold medicines and pain relievers can push blood pressure up further, so tell your prescriber about everything you take.1

What changed in Jatenzo's label, and what older reviews still get wrong

Jatenzo reviews table 5: What changed in Jatenzo's label, and what older reviews still get wrong
Topic Before July 2025 Current label (revised Sept 2025) What it means for you
Boxed warning Yes, for blood pressure increases Removed The risk didn't disappear. It remains in the standard warnings section.
Blood pressure Warning in the box and in the standard warnings section Warning: can raise blood pressure and heart risk over time. Measure periodically. Not recommended with uncontrolled high blood pressure. If your blood pressure isn't controlled, discuss a different starting point with your clinician.
Men with "age-related" low T Listed as a reason not to use it No longer a contraindication. The label still says safety and effectiveness haven't been established for this group. Age-related low testosterone is no longer a listed contraindication, but the current limitation of use still applies.
Separate heart-risk warning Yes Removed. The label now summarizes the large TRAVERSE heart study. TRAVERSE tested a testosterone gel, not Jatenzo.

There's one more layer. On June 18, 2026, the FDA asked makers of testosterone products to update their labels again. The request would drop the "age-related" limitation, narrow the prostate cancer contraindication to metastatic prostate cancer, and revise the enlarged-prostate warning. That's a request, not a done deal. The Jatenzo label we checked on October 21, 2026 hadn't been updated to make those requested changes.14112

Jatenzo is contraindicated—meaning the label says not to use it—in men with breast cancer or known or suspected prostate cancer, during pregnancy, and in anyone with a known allergy to Jatenzo or its ingredients. It is intended for adult men with low or absent testosterone due to certain medical conditions; safety and effectiveness for age-related low testosterone or those under 18 have not been established.1

Side effects reported in the trial

Jatenzo reviews table 6: Side effects reported in the trial
Side effect How often (166 men, about 4 months)
Headache 4.8%
Higher hematocrit (share of blood made of red blood cells) 4.8%
High blood pressure 3.6%
Lower HDL ("good") cholesterol 3.0%
Nausea 2.4%

Across the Phase 2 and 3 trials summarized in the label (569 men), other side effects above 2% included diarrhea, indigestion, burping, leg or ankle swelling, and an enlarged prostate. In the main trial, 1.8% of men stopped early because of side effects.1

Other risks to raise with your prescriber

  • Red blood cells: Testosterone can thicken the blood. The label calls for checking hematocrit before you start and about every 3 months after.
  • Prostate: Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a blood test used to watch the prostate. At the final trial visit, 3 men (1.9%) met the study's PSA-increase criteria. Urinary symptoms from an enlarged prostate can get worse.
  • Blood clots: These have been reported with testosterone products.
  • Sleep apnea: It can get worse, especially if you're overweight or have lung disease.
  • Mood: Depression and suicidal thoughts were reported rarely in trials. Report any mood change.
  • Fertility: Covered in its own section below. It matters.

This isn't every possible side effect. Your Medication Guide has more information about possible side effects.1

Is it hard on the liver like old testosterone pills?

Older testosterone pills, like methyltestosterone, could damage the liver. Jatenzo is built differently: it's absorbed mainly through the lymph system, reducing the initial pass through the liver. The label says Jatenzo is not known to cause those liver problems. "Not known to" isn't "can't," though. Report yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, or pain on the right side of your belly.110

Get help now: Call 911 for chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, or signs of a stroke. New pain, swelling, warmth, or redness in one leg needs prompt medical evaluation. Report new or worsening depression or other mood changes to your prescriber promptly. For suicidal thoughts or a mental-health crisis, call or text 988; call 911 if there is immediate danger.11516

How much does Jatenzo cost?

For 60 capsules of Jatenzo 237 mg, GoodRx lists $1,092.66 with its coupon and a $1,333.09 average retail price. Tolmar advertises as little as $0 for eligible commercially insured patients, but its posted denied-coverage prices conflict ($150 or $199), as do its cash prices ($185 or $239). These are not confirmed price ranges, and eligibility for government drug benefits excludes the savings offers even if you choose to pay cash.76

This is where checking the right price can save real money. Discount-card sites show scary numbers for some prescriptions, but they do not all leave out the drugmaker's program. Compare the same strength and quantity, then have the pharmacy confirm which offer you can use.176

What Jatenzo costs by capsule strength, quantity, and payment type

A price for one strength or capsule count is not a quote for another. These are the exact public listings we checked on October 21, 2026; they are not dose instructions.

What Tolmar's savings terms actually say

Jatenzo reviews table 8: What Tolmar's savings terms actually say
Payment route One terms block on Tolmar's page Another terms block on the same page What needs confirmation
Eligible commercial insurance covers Jatenzo As little as $0 As little as $0 Both blocks state a maximum $393 benefit for a one-month supply of 237 mg; your balance can be higher
Eligible commercial insurance denies coverage; contracted network pharmacy $150 for a one-month supply $199 for a one-month supply Which price applies to your exact prescription
Eligible cash patient or someone choosing not to use insurance $185 for a one-month supply $239 for a one-month supply Which price applies to your exact prescription
Eligible for Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, or other government drug benefits Excluded Excluded Paying cash does not remove this restriction

These are manufacturer-stated terms, not prices we tested with a paid prescription. Tolmar's professional page also says a maximum calendar-year benefit applies without stating the amount. Confirm the current limit, covered quantity, and any shipping charge before relying on a year of assistance.620

The capsule-count catch: A prescription requiring more capsules may change the price. Tolmar's offers describe a "1-month supply," and the copay card's dollar cap is written around the 237 mg strength. Before a prescription change, ask the pharmacy what your new monthly price will be.

Your first-year drug cost, by situation

Twelve fills are not always a full year of treatment. Twelve 30-day fills cover 360 days; if you begin with no medicine on hand and need a continuous 365-day supply, a 13th fill would be needed during the first year, with medicine left for the next year. Tolmar's phrase "1-month supply" does not establish the day count or how many discounted fills it allows.

Jatenzo reviews table 9: Your first-year drug cost, by situation
Your situation Price used per fill Cost of 12 unchanged fills Cost of 13 unchanged fills

Paying cash through Tolmar $185 or $239, if confirmed $2,220 or $2,868 $2,405 or $3,107

GoodRx average retail example: 60 × 237 mg $1,333.09 $15,997.08 $17,330.17

Drug cost only. These are arithmetic scenarios using unchanged prices and quantities, not a promise of continued eligibility, coverage, price, or a specific treatment schedule. Your prescription's days' supply determines how many fills you need.

If the pharmacy confirms $185 for the same prescription as the $1,092.66 GoodRx example, the difference is $907.66 per fill, or $10,891.92 across 12 unchanged fills. That is an illustration, not a confirmed annual saving.

Why two prices? On October 21, 2026, Tolmar's savings page showed two versions of the same terms. One said $150 if insurance denies coverage and $185 for cash. The other said $199 and $239. The older copay-card PDF and Drugs.com's program listing show $185, but that does not settle the conflict on the current page. We can't tell you which version governs today. Ask the pharmacy for the price in writing before your first fill.62117

Add the cost of care. These numbers cover the drug only. Your first year also includes clinician visits and lab work: two morning testosterone tests before starting, baseline hematocrit and an individualized prostate/PSA assessment, clinician-timed testosterone checks after prescription changes, and hematocrit about every 3 months. Get those prices from your clinician or lab. Don't assume they're included.12

Your complete first-year estimate is all medication fills + initial and follow-up visits + diagnostic and monitoring labs + any shipping or required program fees. Ask whether a quoted lab package includes the repeat morning test, whether there is a minimum commitment, and what happens to unused fees if treatment is not prescribed or you cancel. No single total is honest until those care-route costs are known.

How to get the lowest legitimate price

  1. Check Tolmar's current copay-card terms if you have commercial insurance, then download the card if you meet the terms.

  2. Ask whether a contracted Tolmar network pharmacy changes your price. Tolmar says its network offers extra copay help, home delivery, refill reminders, and insurance support; it does not establish free shipping for every prescription.

  3. If you are eligible for the copay card, ask the pharmacy to bill insurance first, then the card.

  4. If insurance denies it, ask about the coverage-denied price, and ask your prescriber about an appeal.

  5. Don't stack a discount card with the copay card. Tolmar's terms don't allow a discount card as the primary payer.

  6. If you're paying cash, ask for both the eligible Tolmar price and a coupon quote for the same prescription, then compare.6

Check Tolmar's Jatenzo savings terms and copay card → Confirm eligibility and the price for your exact prescription with the pharmacy.

Does insurance cover Jatenzo?

Coverage depends on the plan. Cigna's current policy and 2026 drug-list changes show that prior authorization, preferred-product requirements, and quantity limits can apply to Jatenzo. Prior authorization means your clinician must justify the drug to your insurer; a preferred-product requirement may mean another testosterone product must be tried first. Check your own plan's formulary, and ask whether assistance paid by the card counts toward your deductible or out-of-pocket limit before relying on it all year.22

What about Medicare and Medicaid?

Tolmar's terms exclude anyone eligible for drug benefits under Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, or another government program, even if they choose to pay cash.6 Your cost depends on whether your plan covers Jatenzo and what it requires. If it isn't covered, ask your prescriber whether another testosterone product your plan does cover is a reasonable fit. See TRT providers that take insurance.

Is there a generic Jatenzo?

Drugs.com lists no generic Jatenzo as of our October 21, 2026 check. Kyzatrex and Tlando also contain testosterone undecanoate, but they're separate brand-name products with their own dosing. They're not generics of Jatenzo; a switch needs a new prescription, not an automatic pharmacy substitution.82324

Who should take Jatenzo, and who should skip it?

Jatenzo may fit men with confirmed low testosterone who want an FDA-approved option with no needles and nothing to rub off on family, and whose pharmacy has confirmed an affordable price. A different starting point makes sense if your blood pressure is uncontrolled, you're trying to conceive, cost is your main concern, or a twice-daily capsule with meals won't fit your life.126

Here's the honest tradeoff. Jatenzo doesn't offer once-a-week dosing. If a weekly routine is your priority, ask whether an injectable product is a fit for your diagnosis and health history. But because Jatenzo skips needles entirely, you get an FDA-approved testosterone with nothing to inject, no gel that can transfer to your partner or kids, and no injection supplies to pack when you travel. For the man who has already quit injections or gel once, that tradeoff can be worth it.

This framework is an editorial judgment based on the product labels, FDA's compounding guidance, fertility guidance, and the posted savings restrictions.1232425262726

Clomiphene, enclomiphene, and hCG are different treatments: clomiphene use in men is off-label; compounded enclomiphene is not FDA-approved; and some hCG products are approved for selected cases of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males, when the hormonal signals to the testes are too low. None guarantees fertility. A specialist should assess the cause of low testosterone and your fertility goals.282927

If you'd rather do a weekly shot

Plenty of men read this far and realize Jatenzo isn't worth it for them. That's a good outcome. We could not verify Jatenzo prescribing through the online clinics linked below. Treat them as alternative care routes to research, not confirmed sources of Jatenzo.

If you want kids soon

This one isn't negotiable. Testosterone from outside the body, including Jatenzo, can suppress spermatogenesis (sperm production). Jatenzo's label says reduced fertility has been seen in some men on testosterone, and the effect may not be reversible. Swallowing it instead of injecting it doesn't change that. If a pregnancy is in your plans, talk to a fertility-aware specialist before any testosterone.12 Start with our TRT and fertility guide and best TRT providers for fertility.

If you're over 65

Jatenzo isn't off-limits. But no men over 65 were in its main trial, and the label says there isn't enough long-term data for older men on heart and prostate risk. That's a reason for an individual discussion of benefits, risks, and monitoring.12 See online TRT options for men over 50.

Jatenzo vs Kyzatrex vs injections vs gel: which is better?

All four can bring testosterone into the normal range, but Jatenzo and Kyzatrex are different FDA-approved oral testosterone undecanoate capsules with food requirements and schedules that can differ. Generic injections may cost less, and their schedule depends on the prescribed product. The best choice depends on your budget, insurance, routine, and how you feel about needles.123252632

The prices above are different product examples, not a head-to-head cost trial. SingleCare's Kyzatrex page also displayed a different strength and quantity in a selector, so confirm the exact quote rather than treating the headline as a guaranteed monthly cost.6733 All testosterone forms need appropriate monitoring; FDA required class-wide blood-pressure warnings in 2025.34

A few points that tables can't capture:

  • Don't compare trial numbers head to head. Each product's trial used different methods. That's not how you pick a winner.
  • Kyzatrex has an announced platform partnership. Hims & Hers announced the arrangement with Marius Pharmaceuticals in September 2025, but the Hims page we checked still said "Coming in 2026." We did not confirm live enrollment for Kyzatrex. See our Hims testosterone review.3536
  • Tlando is a third oral testosterone undecanoate with a fixed-dose design. Its availability and price change, so check current information.24
  • Switching between oral brands takes a new prescription. Their product labels say they are not substitutable.12324

How do you get a Jatenzo prescription?

You need a prescription from a clinician authorized to prescribe testosterone who confirms low testosterone with at least two separate morning blood tests plus symptoms or signs. Your primary care doctor, a urologist, an endocrinologist, or an appropriately authorized telehealth clinician may be able to prescribe it. Because testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance, telehealth prescribing follows federal and state rules; current federal flexibilities run through December 31, 2026.1237

The tests you'll need first

Jatenzo's label is specific. Before starting, your testosterone must be measured in the morning on at least two separate days, and both results must be below normal. The American Urological Association uses total testosterone below 300 ng/dL as a reasonable cutoff. It also says the diagnosis needs both low levels and symptoms or signs. One low number alone doesn't diagnose hypogonadism. Neither do symptoms alone. The Endocrine Society also calls for symptoms or signs plus consistently low results and repeat morning fasting testing; 300 ng/dL is not a universal diagnosis by itself.1382

Our low-testosterone testing guide and TRT eligibility requirements walk through the details.

Your first-year monitoring map

The label calls for ongoing testing and monitoring. Your clinician sets the timing and any additional checks.

Jatenzo reviews table 12: Your first-year monitoring map
When What gets checked
Before you start Two morning testosterone tests, hematocrit, blood pressure, and prostate-risk assessment, with PSA testing as your clinician advises
After starting and when the prescription changes A clinician-timed testosterone test
About every 3 months Hematocrit
Periodically Blood pressure, PSA, cholesterol

The number of lab visits varies with your monitoring plan and prescription changes. Ask which tests can be combined in one draw and what the visits will cost.12

Can you get Jatenzo online?

Yes, in some cases. Tolmar's FAQ says you can connect with a doctor through telemedicine at JatenzoRx.com. We couldn't review that service's fees, lab requirements, or state coverage, so ask before you pay. A clinic's "oral TRT" offer is not proof it offers Jatenzo. Ask for the exact product before paying; creams, injections, and non-testosterone tablets are different routes.39

On the rules: the DEA has extended flexibilities that let DEA-registered clinicians prescribe controlled medicines such as testosterone after an audio-video visit without a prior in-person exam, subject to applicable federal and state requirements. That extension runs through December 31, 2026. That is the current extension's end date, not a guarantee of access in every state or after that date. The clinician must be authorized to treat you where you are located, and a service or clinician may still require an in-person visit.37 For the tradeoffs, see online vs local TRT clinics.

Questions to bring to your appointment

For your clinician:

  1. What confirms my diagnosis, and did we look for a cause?
  2. Is my blood pressure controlled enough for Jatenzo?
  3. How do my fertility plans change the options?
  4. Which symptoms are we tracking, and when will we review them?
  5. When should my testosterone and hematocrit checks happen?
  6. What should I do if my home blood pressure readings go up?
  7. If Jatenzo doesn't help, what's next?
  8. Who handles side effects between visits, and what is the response time?
  9. Which initial tests, repeat tests, visits, and ongoing monitoring are included in the quoted price?
  10. Is there a minimum commitment, and what are the cancellation, refund, and medical-record request policies?

For the pharmacy or insurer:

  1. Is Jatenzo covered, and does it need prior authorization?
  2. What will I pay for my exact strength, quantity, and days' supply, in writing?
  3. Is this a Tolmar network pharmacy, and does the copay card or cash price apply?
  4. If my prescription changes, how will the price change?
  5. What happens to my price when the copay card's yearly limit runs out?
  6. Which pharmacy will dispense it, is it licensed for my state, and is shipping extra?
  7. When can refills be requested, who handles delays, and are there automatic shipments or charges?

How we checked the Jatenzo evidence

We separated four kinds of information: the FDA label, clinical research, the drugmaker's own statements, and personal reviews. Each answers a different question. Every number on this page comes from a named source and was checked on October 21, 2026.

What we did:

  • Read Jatenzo's full prescribing information (revised September 2025) and compared it with the 2019 original
  • Checked Tolmar's savings terms and noted the conflicting prices instead of picking the cheaper one
  • Recorded discount prices from four sites by the actual strength and quantity quoted; calculated 12-fill and 13-fill scenarios
  • Checked the Drugs.com and WebMD review pages, traced the quoted patient posts, and checked the Sermo URL without confirming its old score
  • Checked the FDA/HHS June 2026 labeling request, AUA diagnostic guidance, the Endocrine Society guideline, and the DEA telemedicine rule

What we didn't do: take Jatenzo, place an order, test JatenzoRx.com, or verify anyone's personal insurance. TRT Provider Guide is not a clinic, pharmacy, or manufacturer. Our full method is in How We Review TRT Providers, with our publishing rules in Editorial Standards. Read our Privacy Policy before sharing information through site tools or forms. See an error? Jatenzo FAQ

Jatenzo is a prescription testosterone product, and its oral form does not remove the need for testing, monitoring, or fertility planning. The answers below separate the current label from individual experiences and plan-specific access.1

Is Jatenzo a controlled substance?

Yes. Jatenzo contains testosterone, a Schedule III controlled substance in the United States. You need a valid prescription, and it's illegal to sell or share it.1

Can I take Jatenzo once a day?

The label calls for two doses a day, one in the morning and one in the evening, each with food. Don't change your schedule without talking to your prescriber.1

What happens if I take Jatenzo without food?

The label requires food. Its study found 25% lower testosterone exposure with a 15-gram-fat breakfast than with a 30-gram-fat breakfast; that is not a measured 25% penalty for every skipped meal or a daily fat target. Follow your prescriber's or pharmacist's meal directions.1

Was the Jatenzo boxed warning removed?

Yes, in July 2025. Blood pressure increases are still a listed warning, and the label still calls for periodic blood pressure checks.1

Is there a generic Jatenzo?

Drugs.com lists no generic Jatenzo as of October 21, 2026. Kyzatrex and Tlando contain the same type of testosterone, but they're different brand products with their own dosing, not generics.82324

Does Jatenzo affect fertility?

It can. Like other testosterone, Jatenzo can lower sperm production, and the label says the effect may not reverse. Talk to a fertility-aware specialist before starting if you want kids.12

Is Jatenzo bad for your liver?

The label says Jatenzo isn't known to cause the liver damage linked to older testosterone pills, because it's absorbed differently. Still report yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, or upper-right belly pain.1

Can women take Jatenzo?

It isn't approved for women and must not be used during pregnancy. This review covers Jatenzo's adult-male hypogonadism indication; other hormone-care needs require their own clinical assessment.1

Who markets Jatenzo now?

Tolmar, Inc. It bought Jatenzo from Clarus Therapeutics in October 2022, after Clarus filed for bankruptcy.5

Will insurance cover Jatenzo?

Coverage and approval rules depend on your plan; Cigna's current materials show prior authorization, preferred-product requirements, and quantity limits can apply. Medicare and Medicaid coverage depends on your plan, and Tolmar's savings offers exclude people eligible for those drug benefits.226

How is Jatenzo different from Kyzatrex?

Both are FDA-approved oral testosterone undecanoate capsules taken with food, but their prescribed schedules can differ. They're marketed by different companies, use different doses, and cost different amounts. One can't be swapped for the other without a new prescription.123

What if Jatenzo doesn't seem to be working?

Talk to your prescriber. They can check whether your blood test was timed right, whether your dose needs adjusting, and whether something besides low testosterone is behind your symptoms. Don't copy someone else's dose from a forum.1
