Matrix Hormones Alternatives (Matrix Reformed): Who to Switch To, What It Costs, and When to Stay
Compare alternatives by your reason for leaving, complete costs, testing, medication, state access and care handoff. Resolve Matrix's plan and refund-policy conflicts before switching.
Matrix Hormones alternatives fit different reasons for leaving: Hone for monthly membership and a published second-test process, Male Excel for month-to-month care with a limited written guarantee, and TRT Nation for prepaid injections. Matrix's annual injectable base is $1,188, but your exit bill, labs, medication, state and fertility plans can change the answer.
There's a catch if you're already a Matrix patient. Matrix's plan page says "Cancel Anytime." Its refund policy says something different, and the gap can cost you real money. We put the two side by side below before you cancel anything.
Best for: Adults comparing Matrix's terms, costs and care with another provider. Not for you if: You need urgent care, a guaranteed prescription, or a fertility plan chosen from a price table.
What changes the answer:
- Trying to have a baby in the next year or so? Start with a urologist or reproductive urologist before choosing any testosterone plan.
- Under 30? Matrix's testosterone program is for adults 30 and up. Other clinics have different age rules, but low testosterone at a young age deserves a full workup first.
- Want FDA-approved testosterone instead of compounded? Compare the exact product with a local doctor or an online prescriber who offers it. Matrix and Viking both list oral Kyzatrex.
- Prepaid Matrix for 6 or 12 months? Compare the unpaid cost of staying with the new cash needed to switch over the same time period.

TRT Provider Guide is the independent decision resource for testosterone replacement therapy — helping U.S. adults understand how low testosterone is evaluated, compare online and local care models and providers, and choose the next step that fits their health needs, fertility plans, budget, state, and care preferences, with every material claim verified and dated.
The right TRT provider is not the same for every person — it depends on whether low testosterone has been properly evaluated, your symptoms and health history, your fertility plans, your state, your insurance or cash-pay preference, your treatment-format preference, your budget, and whether online or in-person care is the better starting point. Some situations belong with primary care, urology, endocrinology, reproductive urology, or urgent or emergency care when the symptoms warrant it. Because a general answer cannot resolve those for you, use TRT Provider Guide's Find My TRT Path tool to map your situation to the right care route and the questions to ask before you pay. The tool is educational and non-diagnostic; it does not determine medical eligibility or guarantee a prescription.
Educational information, not medical advice. Please don't stop or change a testosterone prescription because of something you read here. Talk to the clinician who prescribes it.
This comparison focuses on low-testosterone evaluation and treatment in adult men. Other populations need care designed for their own clinical needs.
How we make money: TRT Provider Guide has commercial relationships with Male Excel, Taurus Meds and Hone Health and may earn money from qualifying referrals. That doesn't decide our verdicts. Which Matrix Hormones alternative fits your reason for leaving?
The right alternative depends on what went wrong. Contract terms, the age-30 rule, state limits, fertility, medication choice, support and refill needs can each lead to a different answer—and sometimes that answer is a doctor's office, not another website.
Here's something we noticed while checking everything: Matrix's plan page and refund policy don't give you the same impression of the commitment. That is a concrete reason to read both before you switch.
Find your reason, then follow that row.

Can you leave Matrix without paying a fee?
It depends on your plan and how long you've been on it. Matrix's refund policy (version 3.0, effective February 1, 2026) gives monthly plans a three-month commitment, an early-exit fee based on delivered medications and services, and a 14-day notice requirement. Prepaid refunds and any account credit are limited by the conditions below.
Matrix counts intake review, lab ordering and even appointment scheduling among clinical services. Its policy also says voluntary discontinuation does not entitle you to a refund or credit, so ask what applies to your account. Matrix refund policy, §§2–4
If you're feeling stuck, you're not imagining it. Matrix's sales page and its own policies say different things. Here they are side by side, so you know exactly where you stand.

Your exit plan, step by step
- Find your plan type and start date in your agreement or ask Matrix support. Monthly, 6-month and 12-month plans follow different rules.
- Count your months. On a monthly plan inside the first three months, ask Matrix in writing: "What is my exact early-cancellation amount if I cancel on [date]?"
- Send written notice at least 14 days before your next charge. Use the customer-account process or contact support, and keep written confirmation. Matrix's support line is (813) 333-2226.
- Request your records: lab results, medication list and visit notes. Your next clinician can review them and decide which results can be used. Matrix's privacy notice says to request copies using a completed Release of Information Form; copying or postage fees may apply. Matrix records policy, §V.D
- Confirm your receiving clinician's appointment, testing and refill plan before your last Matrix supply runs out. More on that below.
- If a charge looks wrong, contact Matrix first. Its policy asks you to contact support and allow 5 business days before filing a chargeback. Keep copies of everything.
The honest math for prepaid patients
Money you've already paid Matrix and can't get back is spent either way. Don't count it again when you compare options.
Say you're four months into a $1,188 annual plan. The remaining eight months of the base plan are already paid. Compare any extra cash needed to stay for those eight months with a new clinic's intake, testing, medication, membership and any Matrix exit charges over those same eight months. Finishing a prepaid term can reduce new spending if the current care still meets your needs. A reminder 30 days before renewal gives you time to review both choices.

What will a Matrix alternative cost you in the first year?
Matrix's annual injectable base is $1,188. The alternatives publish different combinations of memberships, medication, testing and supply blocks, so the figures below are not a complete cheapest-to-most-expensive ranking. Defy and Viking need individual quotes, and some providers' own pages disagree.
We used published numbers and showed the assumptions behind each calculation. Where a price isn't published, we say so instead of guessing. Monthly equivalents are not the same as cash charged during 365 days: supply blocks, test dates and renewals can change when you pay.
Matrix's standard injection plan lists medication, supplies, the consultation, regular bloodwork and shipping as included. The self-pay lab exception and any required outside physical can add costs. Matrix plan inclusions

Models are our arithmetic from provider-published prices, checked October 12, 2026. Your quote can differ by state, prescription and plan. Sources: Matrix · TRT Nation · Taurus offer, terms and company release · Hone Plus and lab schedule · Male Excel · Defy · Viking pricing and lab exclusion.
What this table really tells you
If saving money is your only reason for leaving, compare every new charge with Matrix's annual injectable base and your actual remaining costs. An alternative may fit your terms, state, testing or medication preferences better even when its advertised price is higher.
Two prices deserve extra caution:
- Taurus Meds disagrees with itself. Its $149 campaign page says "all inclusive" and "no membership fees." Its terms list a $17.99 membership per billing period unless the purchase terms say otherwise. Its blood-test FAQ directs patients to pay for medication after labs and schedule the clinician call, with a refund if the clinician finds them ineligible. A company release also ties $149 to six months and lists $199 month to month. Before paying, ask: "What is my total charge, billing interval, commitment and refund rule for this offer?" Offer · Terms · Blood-test FAQ · Company release
- Hone's medication line is open-ended. Hone Plus lists testosterone from $28 per vial, but the number of vials and monthly bill depend on your prescription. Ask: "What will my medication cost per month at the dose you prescribe?"
The trade-off with Male Excel
Male Excel's published injection-and-thyroid starting-rate model is $2,727 before shipping and other extras. That's $1,539 above Matrix's annual base, but the two figures include different care and leave different costs out. A comparison with Hone also needs Hone's actual medication quote. If price is your top priority, compare written totals that include medication, labs and shipping.
Male Excel's thyroid pages describe desiccated thyroid, made from animal thyroid glands. The FDA says animal-derived thyroid medicines are not FDA-approved. Ask for the exact thyroid product, why it is being prescribed and an injection-only quote if thyroid treatment is not part of your clinical plan. Male Excel thyroid information · FDA thyroid notice
Here's the trade. Male Excel doesn't make you prepay a year or sit through a three-month membership lock. It's month to month, while medication is billed every other month. Its written guarantee lets eligible new members request their first three months of membership fees ($297) after 90 continuous days of documented adherence without symptom improvement; claims are reviewed. If being stuck is what burned you at Matrix, that's the trade.
Read the conditions before counting on it. You must attend appointments, follow the protocol, and file within 30 days after day 90. The guarantee covers membership fees only, not medication. Male Excel says it may change or end the guarantee, but changes do not affect members already enrolled under the original terms. Confirm the terms offered at enrollment. Excel Advantage guarantee, clauses 1–7

The Matrix Hormones alternatives, one by one
Each option below starts with our verdict, then the facts behind it. Compare its fit, limits and unresolved costs before paying. Provider-stated details describe what the clinic publishes; they are not a test of the care you will receive.
Hone Health — monthly membership and published confirmatory testing
Verdict: Monthly membership, a required second test before treatment, and $1,710–$1,715 across 12 membership payments and starting tests before medication. It's a fit if you want that published testing process and can confirm your prescription bill and cancellation date.
What we verified in public sources (October 12, 2026):
- Price: Plus membership is $135 a month. It covers follow-up labs, follow-up consultations and free shipping. Medication is billed separately; injectable testosterone starts at $28 a vial. Plus membership
- Testing: A $45 at-home kit checks eight markers: total testosterone, calculated free testosterone, SHBG (a protein that binds testosterone), albumin, LH (a pituitary hormone that signals the testes to make testosterone), estradiol, and two liver markers. Before testosterone is prescribed, a confirmatory test checks total testosterone a second time plus hematocrit (the share of your blood made up of red blood cells), PSA (a prostate marker) and prolactin. Hone's current pages disagree on the in-lab price ($45 versus $50); both list $80 at home. Plus prices · Testing schedule
- Visits: Live video visits with a licensed Hone physician. Visit policy
- Testosterone formats: Injection, cream ($60 a month) and troche ($60 a month). A troche dissolves in the mouth. The cream and troche are listed as compounded; membership is extra.
- Non-testosterone options: Clomiphene and enclomiphene are listed. We did not find hCG in the treatment pages checked. Their approval status and fertility limits are explained below. Plus medication list
- Pharmacy choice: Hone allows a local pharmacy if it can legally fill your exact prescription. Your membership continues and the pharmacy bills you directly. Hone is cash-pay and won't help with prior authorizations. Most major retail pharmacies don't fill compounded prescriptions. Confirm that the pharmacy can supply your formulation before requesting the change. Own-pharmacy policy
- Cancel: Monthly membership can be canceled or paused for up to 3 months. The cancellation policy records the form-submission time; the membership FAQ says the end of the billing period. Save confirmation and check the next charge. Pending prescriptions must be canceled separately. No partial-month refunds. Medication cancellation and refunds depend on whether pharmacy processing has begun; processed or shipped orders are nonrefundable. Cancellation policy · Membership FAQ
- States: Men's Plus is offered in 35 states. No service in 14 places: Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, D.C., Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and South Carolina. For men's TRT, New York has Premium only; Alabama has women's care only. State list
Best for: Men who want monthly membership, a published confirmatory-testing process, and the option to use a suitable local pharmacy. Skip it if: You need confirmed hCG access, live in a no-service state, or want one flat monthly price. Easiest limit to miss: Your real monthly cost is $135 plus medication. Couldn't confirm: Your monthly medication cost, assigned pharmacy and exact injectable product. Its product page calls the injection compounded, while a help article describes manufacturer sourcing; clarify which applies to your prescription. Injection page · Vial sourcing

Male Excel — a written membership-fee guarantee and monthly membership
Verdict: Male Excel publishes a conditional membership-fee guarantee and lists care in several states excluded from Hone Plus, including New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. New York is also listed for Hone Premium.
What we verified in public sources (October 12, 2026):
- Price: $99 for the initial home test and consultation, then a required $99-a-month medical membership. Medication is separate: injections with thyroid treatment from $120 a month, or cream with thyroid treatment from $132 a month, billed every other month as a 60-day supply. Shipping is extra; its amount was not published in the pages checked. Pricing · Initial test
- What's in the medication bundle: Male Excel's published starting bundles pair testosterone with a daily thyroid tablet. Thyroid medicine isn't part of standard testosterone therapy. Ask your provider whether it's prescribed for you, why, and whether your price changes without it. Starting bundles
- Testing: The published at-home finger-prick blood-spot kit lists testosterone, estradiol, DHEA-S, free T3 (a thyroid marker) and PSA. Hematocrit isn't on that kit's list; we did not confirm a separate baseline safety panel or a second morning testosterone-test requirement. The American Urological Association says hematocrit should be checked before testosterone is offered, so ask how Male Excel handles it. Home test · Endocrine Society guideline, baseline hematocrit assessment · AUA guideline
- Membership includes (provider-stated): A dedicated provider, unlimited support-team messaging and unlimited medical-provider e-visits. The program page also lists 60-day assessments and blood testing every six months; ask what extra tests your plan needs. Membership · Program
- Testosterone formats: Testosterone cypionate injections and compounded Lipoderm cream. We could not establish the exact finished injectable product's FDA status. No FDA-approved oral testosterone was listed in the treatment pages checked. Injection page · FAQ
- Non-testosterone options: The oral Triclozene blend's product page says enclomiphene, while the FAQ and pricing page say clomiphene. Confirm the current ingredients; these are different medicines, and neither is testosterone. We did not find hCG in the pages checked. Triclozene page · Pricing
- Pharmacy: The FAQ names Anazao Health Corp in Tampa and WellDyneRx-FL in Lakeland. General terms restrict fulfillment to contracted pharmacies, while the Utah consent mentions pharmacy choice. Confirm the dispenser and any state-specific exception for your prescription. FAQ · Terms · Consent
- Insurance: None. Male Excel labels its medications FSA/HSA-eligible. Confirm eligibility with your account administrator. Pricing
- Refunds: General terms make sales and fees nonrefundable unless stated otherwise in writing; the membership-fee guarantee is a conditional exception. Terms · Guarantee
- States: All except Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire and Rhode Island (FAQ checked October 12, 2026). D.C. isn't addressed. State FAQ
Best for: Men who got burned by a lock-in, want a dedicated provider, and live in a state Hone Plus doesn't serve. Skip it if: Your complete quote is beyond your budget, you require an in-lab draw that Male Excel has not confirmed it can arrange, or you're in an excluded state. Easiest limit to miss: Membership and medication are two separate bills. The $219 monthly equivalent combines membership with the advertised injection-and-thyroid bundle; medication is billed every other month, and the $99 initial order, shipping and applicable tax are extra. Couldn't confirm: Shipping, an injection-only quote without thyroid, the complete prescribed-medication price, and which named pharmacy and exact finished product would serve you.

Taurus Meds — a $49 lab offer with terms to settle first
Verdict: The campaign advertises $49 to test at Labcorp or Quest, then $149 a month as all-inclusive. But its own pages disagree about what that $149 covers, and a company release links that rate to a six-month commitment.
What we verified in public sources (October 12, 2026):
- Price: The campaign lists a $49 blood test and doctor review (shown as marked down from $129), then medication at $149 a month, "all inclusive," with "no membership fees." Free shipping is advertised. The homepage separately promotes a free baseline test; confirm which offer applies to you. Campaign · Blood-test page · Homepage
- The conflicts: Terms list a $17.99 membership "per billing period" unless the purchase terms say otherwise. A May 2026 company release links $149 monthly to six months and lists $199 month to month. The blood-test FAQ describes medication payment before the clinician call, with a refund if the clinician finds you ineligible. The campaign offers a 90-day refund "minus lab and pharmacy fees," while the refund policy says "there is no guarantee of results or effectiveness." Get the applicable terms before paying. Terms · Company release · Blood-test FAQ · Refunds
- Testing: Labcorp or Quest draw covering 8 markers. If you live more than 50 miles from a lab, Taurus sends an at-home kit at no extra charge. Test offer · Eight-marker test
- Testosterone formats: Taurus advertises testosterone cypionate and gel. Its campaign repeats injection descriptions under oral and topical products and names another provider's program. Its broad FDA-approved language and compounded wording do not establish the exact product you would receive. Campaign · Homepage
- Non-testosterone options: Enclomiphene is advertised. We did not find hCG in the pages checked. Enclomiphene page
- Pharmacies (from its terms): RedRock Pharmacy (UT), Health Warehouse (KY), Precision Compounding Pharmacy (NY) and Triad Rx (AL). Pharmacy disclosures
- Cancel: At least 72 hours before your billing date. Otherwise you're charged once more. Its policy generally denies refunds, with medical-disqualification exceptions whose full/remainder-refund wording differs. Refund policy
- States: We did not find a complete TRT state list in the public pages checked; confirm your state before paying.
Best for: Men who prefer a Labcorp or Quest draw and can obtain written confirmation of their state, treatment, complete fees and commitment before paying. Skip it if: Taurus cannot confirm your state, complete charges, commitment and applicable refund terms before you pay. Easiest limit to miss: The refund policy is strict. Cancel late and you pay another cycle. A 72-hour notice rule also does not establish that the $149 offer has no longer commitment; the company release describes six months. Couldn't confirm: The final total and billing term, which state list applies, the exact prescribed product, and the full schedule and cost of follow-up labs.

TRT Nation — $99.99 advertised monthly rate, paid in blocks
Verdict: $99.99 a month advertised, paid in 2.5-month blocks, with labs extra. It offers Labcorp or Quest draws and an hCG option. The trade-off is prepaying in blocks, generally without refunds; see the initial-consultation exception below.
- Price: $99.99 a month with a 2.5-month minimum purchase. Adding hCG brings it to $180 a month. A provider consultation is included. Syringes and standard shipping are included. Current packages · Plan prices
- Labs: $129 panel at Labcorp or Quest covering total testosterone, CBC (which includes hematocrit), CMP (a metabolic panel), estradiol and PSA for patients 40+. You can upload outside labs taken within the last 120 days at no charge. At-home finger-prick or saliva kits are not accepted. Acceptance depends on the required markers and identifying details. Lab options
- Age and states: 24 and older. Its homepage excludes Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Missouri and North Dakota. A separate FAQ omits North Dakota, so confirm that state directly. California pricing may differ. Homepage · Separate FAQ
- Refunds: TRT Nation has a general no-refund, no-return policy. One exception for new patients: if you and the provider decide at your first consultation that treatment isn't right for you, you get a full refund. General policy · New-patient exception
- Testosterone type: Exact product status was not confirmed; its FAQ says medications come from U.S. compounding pharmacies. FAQ
- Non-testosterone option: Enclomiphene is $99.99 a month advertised. It is not TRT. Plan prices
Best for: Men comparing a low advertised injectable price with hCG available. Skip it if: You're under 24, or if lock-in is why you're leaving.

Defy Medical — pay per service
Verdict: No subscription. You pay for each consult, lab and medication as you go. Confirm that Defy can treat you in your state. The downside is you need an itemized quote to add up a year.
- Model: "No Subscriptions or Contracts," with extended one-hour consults (provider-stated). Care model
- Price: A complete first-year quote wasn't verified. Defy's TRT cost blog gives an illustrative average under $175 a month for year one, not a price guarantee. TRT cost illustration
- Requirements: Blood testing, a recent physical and patient history are part of onboarding. Current terms require labs and consultation at least every 6 months unless the documented care plan differs; confirm the initial schedule and accepted exam date. Onboarding · Current terms
- Testosterone formats: Injections, creams, pellets and more. Pellets require an in-person procedure. Confirm the exact product and its FDA status. TRT service
- Non-testosterone options: Current hCG availability was not confirmed in the pages we could read; ask Defy directly.
- Pharmacies named: APS (FL), Empower (TX) and Hallandale (FL). Pharmacy directory
- Insurance: Not accepted, but Defy provides superbills on request (itemized receipts you can submit to your insurer yourself). Reimbursement is not guaranteed. Insurance terms
Best for: Men who want a long first consult and no recurring membership. Skip it if: You need a fixed, publicly itemized package price.
Easiest limit to miss: No subscription does not mean refundable purchases. Its terms exclude refunds for dispensed medication and can charge the full consultation fee for late cancellation or a no-show; unused lab orders have separate conditions. Viking Alternative — online Kyzatrex and hCG
Verdict: An online option offering Kyzatrex, an FDA-approved oral testosterone. It separately lists hCG and enclomiphene, which are not TRT. It doesn't publish fixed prices.

Your own doctor, a urologist or an endocrinologist — when the best alternative is a full clinical evaluation
Verdict: For some readers this is the right answer, not a backup plan.
Get a full clinical evaluation first if:
- you're trying to conceive now or soon
- you're under 30 and nobody has looked for a cause of low testosterone
- you've never had a confirmed diagnosis based on symptoms or signs and appropriate repeat testing
- you want insurance to cover FDA-approved testosterone
- you have a complicated health history: prostate or breast cancer, high hematocrit, untreated severe sleep apnea, or a recent heart attack or stroke
What it costs: It depends on your plan. Ask whether the clinician is in-network, which visits and tests are covered, and whether your exact prescription needs prior authorization. Your clinician can decide which parts of the evaluation need an in-person visit.
Not sure which camp you're in? Our guide to online TRT vs. a local clinic walks through it.
Staying with Matrix — when it's the right call
Matrix has real strengths. Its annual injectable base is $1,188. It also offers FDA-approved Kyzatrex at a $169 monthly base, plus an hCG/enclomiphene combination and an enclomiphene-only plan, both without testosterone. Its FAQ lists a published starting panel, including a CBC, with PSA for men over 40 or as needed. Its public Trustpilot page displayed 4.6 from 35 reviews on October 12, 2026. Those reviews are a customer-experience signal, not a clinical-quality measure. Plans · Baseline panel · Trustpilot
If your only complaint is price, compare complete quotes before paying another clinic. If it's terms, age, state or fertility, keep reading. For the full profile, see our Matrix Hormones reviews page.
What testing do alternatives publish before prescribing?
Clinical guidelines say low testosterone should be diagnosed only when symptoms or signs show up alongside low results on two separate early-morning tests. Hone describes a second-test step, and TRT Nation's process guidance also calls for two morning testosterone tests.
TRT Nation, Taurus, Matrix and Viking use Labcorp or Quest draws. Male Excel uses a finger-prick home kit.
The American Urological Association (AUA) guideline says clinicians should:
- use a total testosterone below 300 ng/dL to support the diagnosis, not as a stand-alone diagnosis
- confirm low testosterone with two morning tests on separate occasions
- diagnose deficiency only when low levels come with symptoms and/or signs
- measure hemoglobin and hematocrit before offering testosterone
The Endocrine Society also recommends morning fasting testing with an accurate assay and a workup to find the cause. These rules describe diagnosis, not a reason to interrupt an existing prescription to repeat untreated baseline tests; when switching, let the receiving clinician review your records and decide what testing you need. Endocrine Society guideline · AUA guideline · Clinical review of diagnosis and evaluation
One low number on one morning isn't a diagnosis. Here's how each option lines up.
This table compares published processes, not observed care. "Not established" means the documents checked did not answer the question; it does not mean the clinician skips the test. Ask whether a separate confirmatory draw and any extra safety labs are included in your quote.

Will you get the same medication and pharmacy if you switch?
Not necessarily. Several providers here, including Matrix's injection and cream programs, list compounded testosterone: a pharmacy combines or changes ingredients to make a medicine for a patient's needs. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, so the FDA does not review their safety, effectiveness or quality before sale; a switch can change your exact product, pharmacy, or both. Three things to check
- A new clinic doesn't always mean a new pharmacy. Matrix and Defy both name Empower Pharmacy. If pharmacy quality is your reason for leaving, ask your new clinic which pharmacy and which location will fill your prescription. Defy's directory and the Empower warning letter below give different Houston addresses; a shared name does not establish the same facility. Defy directory · Empower letter
- The FDA has issued warning letters to specific facilities run by two of Matrix's named pharmacies: an Empower facility in Houston (September 18, 2026) and Revive Rx (September 22, 2025). Both letters cite problems with sterile compounding conditions. The Empower letter doesn't mention testosterone, and we found nothing tying a Matrix prescription to those findings. We did not establish the current resolution of every finding. Our Matrix reviews page covers these letters in detail.
- "Pharmacy-verified" isn't "FDA-approved." One Matrix page calls its partners "FDA-approved… compounding pharmacies." The FDA doesn't approve pharmacies; it approves drugs. And compounded drugs aren't FDA-approved. Matrix FAQ · FDA approval explanation · FDA compounding guidance
Ask any new provider, in writing: "Is the testosterone you'd prescribe FDA-approved or compounded? Which pharmacy and which location fills it? Can I use a different pharmacy?"

Which Matrix alternatives serve your state?
Availability changes by provider, by membership tier and sometimes by medication. Male Excel lists 39 states, Hone Plus 35 and Viking 47; Hone Premium also lists New York. TRT Nation's homepage excludes six states, but complete current lists for Matrix, Taurus and Defy were not established in the public pages checked.

- In 7 states, Male Excel lists care but Hone Plus doesn't: Delaware, Kansas, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Hone Premium is also listed in New York.
- In 3 states, Hone Plus lists care but Male Excel doesn't: Hawaii, Idaho and Mississippi.
- In 8 states, neither lists men's hormone care: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. TRT Nation's homepage lists service in 5 of them; Viking lists 7. Confirm any of these states with Defy.
- Matrix charges $95 more a month for its two listed hCG combination plans in 10 states and doesn't offer Kyzatrex in 6.
How to read this table: ✓ means the provider lists the state or does not exclude it from its published state list; it is not a prescription guarantee. ✗ means the source excludes that state or plan. D.C. is marked separately where the source does not address it. Confirm where you will physically be for the visit, the exact medication and new-patient availability before paying.
Viking's published list excludes Alabama, Hawaii and Mississippi. Complete Matrix, Taurus and Defy TRT state lists were not verified. A blank Matrix cell means no added restriction was verified here; it does not confirm that Matrix accepts patients in that state. Matrix's state selector and support team can confirm the exact plan.
Sources: Hone state availability (updated September 4, 2026); Male Excel FAQ; TRT Nation homepage and separate FAQ; Viking state list; Matrix plan fine print and New York lab notice. Checked October 12, 2026. Matrix's hCG additions and Kyzatrex exclusions apply to those specific plans, not its whole service.
In New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Kansas, North Dakota or South Carolina? Male Excel lists care in these states, which Hone Plus does not; New York also has Hone Premium. Check Male Excel's published state availability →
Who should see a doctor before switching to another online clinic?
Some reasons for leaving Matrix are really medical questions. If you want children soon, you're under 30 without a known cause, you've never had a proper diagnostic workup, or you have a complicated health history, start with a clinician who can evaluate that issue and arrange in-person care when needed.
If you want to have children
The Endocrine Society advises against starting testosterone therapy when a man is planning fertility in the near term. A reproductive health evaluation should come before choosing treatment. Taking testosterone can lower sperm production. How much, and how fast it recovers after stopping, varies from man to man. Nobody can promise an individual fertility outcome or a recovery date. Endocrine Society guideline · AUA/ASRM fertility guidance
You'll see hCG, enclomiphene and clomiphene sold online as "fertility support." Here's what's true:
- None of these are testosterone, and none are TRT. They can stimulate the body's own testosterone production in selected patients.
- Their approval status differs. Clomiphene is FDA-approved for certain ovulation problems in women; its use for male hypogonadism or infertility is off-label. There is no FDA-approved standalone enclomiphene product. FDA-approved hCG products such as Pregnyl have a labeled use for selected cases of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males—low testosterone caused by too little hormone signaling from the pituitary gland. Adding hCG to TRT to try to preserve fertility is a separate use, not a fertility guarantee. Clomiphene label · Current FDA product records · 2026 BSSM statement · Pregnyl label
- The AUA/ASRM guideline allows clinicians to consider hCG or medicines in the SERM class for selected infertile men with low testosterone. SERMs include clomiphene. That is a clinical decision, not an add-on box at checkout, and the medicines are not interchangeable. AUA/ASRM guideline, medical interventions
Listed means advertised by the provider, not guaranteed eligibility, a complete fertility service or verification of the exact dispensed product. Sources: Matrix · TRT Nation · Viking · Hone · Male Excel product page and FAQ · Taurus. Checked October 12, 2026.
Viking also advertises a fertility evaluation, including semen analysis when conception is the immediate goal. That is a provider-stated service, not evidence of guaranteed fertility preservation. Viking fertility service
If a baby is in your near-term plans, start with a urologist or reproductive urologist. Read our TRT and fertility guide before you book.
If you're under 30
Matrix publishes a 30-and-up rule for its testosterone program; that is its program limit, not a universal diagnostic age cutoff. Low testosterone in a young man can have a cause worth finding: a pituitary issue, a medication, a testicular problem. Other clinics have different age rules. Still, get a primary care doctor, urologist or endocrinologist to look for a cause first. Endocrine Society guideline, evaluation of cause
If your situation is complicated
Go in person first if you have a history of prostate or breast cancer, high hematocrit, untreated severe sleep apnea, a recent heart attack or stroke, or very abnormal lab results. If you have chest pain, trouble breathing, sudden weakness or trouble speaking, call 911 right away. How do you switch from Matrix without a gap in care?
Get your records and lab results, confirm the receiving clinician's requirements, and let a clinician guide any change to your treatment. Coordinate that handoff with Matrix's notice and billing rules so you know both the care plan and cancellation date. A new clinic may need new labs and its own review before prescribing; nobody can guarantee a gap-free switch.
Who handles visits, refills and your records?
These are published access routes, not measured response times. Before paying, ask for the assigned clinician's name and credentials, confirm their authority to treat you where you will be for the visit, and ask which parts of your care need an in-person exam. HHS cross-state licensing guidance

Phone access or messaging alone does not show which visit can legally support a new testosterone prescription. Confirm the required clinical visit and review the current telemedicine rules below.
The switching checklist
- Confirm your new provider serves your state for the exact plan you want.
- Ask which outside labs they accept. TRT Nation, for example, takes labs from the last 120 days with your full name and collection date, and won't accept at-home finger-prick or saliva kits. Get the answer in writing.
- Arrange new labs early if your old ones won't count. Ask both clinics how much lead time your tests, appointment and medication order need.
- Get your records. Ask Matrix for your lab history, prescriptions and visit notes through its Release of Information process. Keep copies for yourself and share them with the new clinician. Records policy
- Confirm the exact medication and pharmacy with your new prescriber after their review. Don't assume your current prescription carries over unchanged.
- Get your next appointment and refill plan in writing. A shipping estimate isn't a care plan.
- Send Matrix your cancellation with at least 14 days' notice. Keep confirmation of the date.
- If you might run short during the switch, call your current prescriber and your new one now. Don't change your dose or stop on your own. Our guide on stopping TRT explains why.
Your switching cost worksheet
Fill this in with written quotes. It stops you from comparing a teaser price to a full bill. Count each charge once: if a package includes medication or labs, put its price on one line and mark the covered lines "included—$0 extra." Leave an unconfirmed amount unknown.
Use the same start and end dates for both choices. Confirm how past Matrix payments reduce any quoted exit bill; do not add a fee again if it is already included in a total settlement amount. Account credit is not a cash refund.
Part A: What you still owe Matrix
Part B: Your new provider's first 12 months
Part C: The comparison
- Cost to switch = Total still owed to Matrix + new provider's 12-month total − any cash refund Matrix has confirmed in writing and has not already deducted from your balance
- Cost to stay = All Matrix charges and other required care costs still due over the same 12 months, including a renewal that falls in that window
- Difference = Cost to switch − Cost to stay
If any line says "unknown," your comparison isn't finished yet. Ask for that number.
Five questions to ask your next provider before you pay
- "What is my total charge in month one and month two, including membership, medication, labs and shipping?"
- "Is the testosterone you'd prescribe FDA-approved or compounded, and which pharmacy fills it?"
- "Which of my existing labs will you accept, and what new tests do I need?"
- "How much notice do I need to cancel, and what's refundable?"
- "If federal telehealth rules change after December 31, 2026, will I need an in-person visit?"

Is online TRT still allowed after December 31, 2026?
Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance and needs a valid prescription. Through December 31, 2026, the fourth DEA/HHS temporary extension allows qualifying prescribing through audio-video telemedicine without a prior in-person medical evaluation, subject to federal and state rules. That extension alone does not establish what requirements will apply to a particular patient after that date. DEA scheduling · DEA extension
Here's what's settled and what isn't, as of October 12, 2026:
- Settled: The DEA and HHS issued a fourth temporary extension of telemedicine prescribing flexibilities, running through December 31, 2026. Prescriptions must still follow DEA rules and federal and state law. Federal Register rule
- Not settled by this extension: Which prescribing requirements will apply to your care after December 31, 2026. Ask the clinic which authority it expects to use and whether it will need an in-person evaluation.
- What it means for you: State rules, your clinician's requirements and the prescribing route can affect whether an in-person visit is needed. Matrix's homepage already mentions an in-person physical exam. Ask any provider how it will handle your care if the federal rules change.
Check the current DEA telemedicine information before a new intake or renewal near that deadline.
How we checked these Matrix Hormones alternatives
We compared Matrix and seven alternatives using official provider pages and policies, published prices with their plan-specific assumptions, and the date each fact was checked. Where a fact wasn't established or the provider's own pages disagreed, we say so instead of picking the friendlier number.
What we actually verified
Our full process is documented in How We Review TRT Providers. It reviews providers on clinical eligibility, testing, clinician access, state availability, treatment formats, medication and pharmacy transparency, fertility handling, monitoring, total cost, cancellation, support and how honest their claims are. It doesn't give out scores, and being listed here isn't an endorsement. If you spot something out of date, our corrections page explains how we fix it.
Matrix Hormones alternatives: frequently asked questions
The questions below cover price, exit terms, medication and the care handoff. An individual bill or prescription still depends on the plan, state and clinician.
Is there anything cheaper than Matrix Hormones?
Matrix advertises a $1,188 annual injectable base. Whether another option costs less depends on the same-period total for labs, medication, visits and billing terms. TRT Nation advertises $99.99 a month in 2.5-month blocks, with labs extra; neither base price proves the lower complete bill. Matrix plans · TRT Nation plans
Is Matrix Reformed the same company as Matrix Hormones?
The old matrixhormones.com address now leads to a Matrix Reformed-branded site, and current legal documents name Matrix Reformed, LLC with a St. Petersburg mailing address. That establishes the web connection; we did not audit the full corporate history. A new name alone isn't a reason to switch. Older address · Current legal documents
How do I cancel Matrix Hormones?
Give at least 14 days' notice through your customer account or by contacting support. Monthly plans carry a three-month commitment, and leaving earlier can trigger an early-cancellation fee. Ask Matrix for the exact amount in writing before you cancel. Cancellation FAQ · Refund policy
Can I get a refund on a Matrix annual plan?
Generally no after clinical services start. Matrix's limited exception is when its evaluation finds you are not a clinical candidate; it then deducts a $120 onboarding fee. Account credit is not guaranteed, cannot be transferred and expires after 12 months. Refund policy, §§3–4
Which Matrix alternative has no contract?
Hone Health and Male Excel advertise monthly membership without a fixed-term commitment. Hone's pending prescriptions need separate cancellation; Male Excel bills medication every other month. Defy is pay per service. Viking lists no separate membership or cancellation fee, but a minimum medication order and full refund rules were not verified. TRT Nation bills in 2.5-month blocks under a general no-refund rule, with a new-patient consultation exception. Hone policy · Male Excel pricing · Defy terms · Viking fees · TRT Nation exception
Who offers online TRT if I'm under 30?
Hone Health and Male Excel describe adult services; ask each whether its TRT program can evaluate someone your age. TRT Nation lists 24 and up. Low testosterone at a young age deserves a full clinical evaluation for a cause first. Hone terms · Male Excel terms · TRT Nation intake · Endocrine Society guideline
Which Matrix alternatives offer hCG?
TRT Nation and Viking Alternative list hCG; Defy's current availability was not confirmed. We did not find hCG in the Hone Health, Male Excel or Taurus Meds treatment pages checked. hCG isn't TRT, and it can't promise to protect fertility. TRT Nation plans · Viking medication list · AUA/ASRM fertility guidance
Which online option has FDA-approved testosterone?
Matrix and Viking Alternative both list Kyzatrex, an FDA-approved oral testosterone capsule. A local doctor can also discuss FDA-approved products; insurance coverage depends on your plan and exact prescription. Kyzatrex FDA record · Matrix plans · Viking Kyzatrex
Do I need new bloodwork to switch?
Your new prescriber decides which existing results are adequate and whether new tests are needed. TRT Nation's current intake accepts qualifying outside results from the past 120 days, but acceptance does not replace its clinical review. Confirm the required markers and dates before buying another panel. TRT Nation lab options
Will switching cause a gap in my treatment?
It can. Ask both prescribers how early to arrange labs, visits and pharmacy processing before your current supply runs out. Don't stop or change your dose on your own.
Does any Matrix alternative take insurance?
Defy and Viking say they do not bill insurance, and Male Excel is cash-pay. Defy offers superbills on request; Hone allows a suitable local pharmacy, where insurance may apply, but won't handle prior authorizations. For an insurance route, check your plan's in-network clinicians, labs and exact medication coverage before paying. We did not verify insurance billing for every option in this comparison. Defy terms · Viking policy · Male Excel pricing · Hone pharmacy policy
Is Matrix Hormones legit?
Matrix has a live service site, published terms and a named medical director. Florida's record listed Peter M. Dashko's osteopathic physician license, OS8677, as Clear/Active on October 12, 2026. That confirms this license, not every assigned clinician, state or pharmacy shipment. The complaints reviewed do not establish what most patients experience. See our Matrix Hormones reviews for the full picture. Matrix provider bio · Florida license record
If Matrix's price works for you but its fine print doesn't, you have real options. If your reason is medical (fertility, age, or a diagnosis that was never confirmed), the best alternative may be an exam room.
