Aveed Cost in 2026: The Price Per Shot, the First-Year Total, and What You'll Actually Pay

Aveed cost depends on your insurance and clinic. The maker's list price is $2,388.89 per 750 mg shot—$14,333.34 for six first-year shots before visits and tests. Your share can be much lower, but assistance covers eligible drug costs only. Use the worksheet below to get a complete quote.

The list price and your bill can be very different numbers for the same shot. The one that matters is your share after insurance. You don't have to wait for the bill, and below we show you how to request an estimate before your first appointment.

What changes your price the most:

  • Who pays. Cash, commercial insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid each lead to a very different bill.
  • Which year you're in. Year one has 6 shots. Later years have 5 or 6, depending on how the dates fall.
  • What's not in the drug price. The office visit, injection and lab work may add separate charges; ask what your quote includes. The copay card covers none of them.
  • Your insurer's rules. Most policies we checked want two low morning testosterone tests first. Some want proof you tried another testosterone treatment.

Aveed may be worth the cost if: your clinician considers it appropriate, your insurance covers it—or Medicare covers it and your supplement pays the relevant cost sharing—and you'd rather have fewer shots with nothing to handle at home. Budget for 6 shots in the first 52 weeks, then visits every 10 weeks.

Look at other options first if: you'd be paying cash, your plan prefers a generic injection you haven't tried, you may want children soon, or a 30-minute wait at the office every 10 weeks won't fit your life. If fertility is the concern, start with a reproductive health evaluation, not a different testosterone format.

How much does one Aveed shot cost?

One 750 mg Aveed shot has several "prices": a $2,388.89 list price, a $2,233.43 public cash listing, and a $1,652.25 Medicare drug allowance for October–December 2026. These are different price measures, not quotes for your full visit. What you pay depends on whether cash, a commercial plan, or Medicare is paying.

We put the published prices we checked for the same shot side by side. Same drug, same 3 mL vial, very different numbers:

Why the coupon price probably isn't your price. Aveed isn't a prescription you pick up at the counter. It's only sold through a safety program called the Aveed REMS (a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy, which is an FDA-required safety plan). Both the prescriber and the office, clinic or hospital giving it must be certified. (Aveed label)

So the drug reaches you one of two ways. Either your doctor's office buys it and bills your insurance, or a specialty pharmacy ships it to the office for you. (AveedUSA ordering paths) We couldn't confirm that any office or specialty pharmacy will accept a retail discount card for Aveed. Treat retail coupon estimates as a reference point, not a promise.

The price went up twice this year. The maker raised the list price 4.85% in April 2026 (to $2,278.39) and another 4.85% in October (to $2,388.89). It says October was the last increase planned for 2026. (Keenova)

Who makes Aveed now? Keenova Therapeutics. It brings together the branded businesses after Endo and Mallinckrodt's July 2025 merger; the Keenova name followed in November 2025. Plenty of sites still say "Endo." The current copay assistance number is 1-800-381-2638. (Company announcement, AveedUSA)

What does Aveed cost in the first year?

Aveed's label schedule puts 6 shots in your first 52 weeks: one to start, one at week 4, then one every 10 weeks. At the October 2026 list price, that's $14,333.34 for the drug alone. Insurance and approved assistance can lower your share, but your appointment dates, deductible resets and separate service fees decide the full-year bill.

Why year one has 6 shots, not 5

Counting only "every 10 weeks" leaves out the starter schedule. That makes it look like 5 shots a year. Year one has an extra shot because of the week-4 starter dose.

Here's the label schedule laid out as a budget calendar. It's for counting costs, not dosing instructions. Your clinician sets your actual schedule. (Aveed label, section 2.1)

Aveed cost table 2: Why year one has 6 shots, not 5
Shot When (label timing) Running count
1 Start 1
2 Week 4 2
3 Week 14 3
4 Week 24 4
5 Week 34 5
6 Week 44 6
Next Week 54, which falls in year two —

In the next 52-week budget window—from week 52 up to, but not including, week 104—the shots fall at weeks 54, 64, 74, 84 and 94. That's 5. Some later 12-month stretches will catch 6, depending on where the dates land.

One more thing to budget: time. Each shot comes with a 30-minute wait at the office afterward. Six shots means at least 3 hours of sitting and waiting in year one, plus your drive and check-in time.

Year-one cost by how you pay

We did the math for each payment path. These are fixed-price drug illustrations, not complete clinic quotes or forecasts of future prices. Office visits, injection fees and labs come after.

Aveed cost table 3: Year-one cost by how you pay
How you pay Per shot Six-shot illustration Five-shot illustration What to know
List price $2,388.89 $14,333.34 $11,944.45 Price held at the October 2026 level. A cash quote from an office could be higher or lower.
Public cash listing $2,233.43 $13,400.58 $11,167.15 Not a clinic quote. Ask your office for its own cash price.
Original Medicare, no supplement $299.24 for the drug at the Q4 2026 rate $1,795.44 $1,496.20 Illustration only: identical Q4 drug rates and the deductible already met for every claim. Your actual year spans quarters and may span deductible years. Separate service charges are not included.
Medicare + a Medigap plan that covers Part B coinsurance Depends on plan benefits and any remaining deductible Plan-specific Plan-specific Medigap may pay some or all of your share of Medicare-covered care. Check the plan letter, deductible and office-copay rules; premiums are additional.
Commercial plan + copay program Your drug share minus approved help, never below $0 Sum six quoted drug shares after approved help Sum five quoted drug shares after approved help The program pays up to $300 of eligible drug costs per shot. You may have to pay first and get reimbursed. Noncovered and out-of-network costs may fall outside your plan's spending limit.

How we got these: 6 × $2,388.89 = $14,333.34. 6 × $2,233.43 = $13,400.58. For the Medicare illustration: $1,652.25 × 18.111% = $299.24, rounded per drug claim; 6 × $299.24 = $1,795.44. That is not a first-year Medicare forecast: rates can change each quarter, and a new calendar year can bring another deductible. The 2026 Part B deductible is $283 across Part B care, not an extra Aveed fee. Sources: Keenova, Drugs.com, CMS October 2026 file, CMS 2026 deductible, what an out-of-pocket limit excludes.

What a commercial plan bill can look like

These two examples use made-up numbers to show how the $300 cap works. They are not real Aveed quotes. Both assume six identical visits and that the program approves the stated help every time. Separate evaluations, labs and other fees are excluded.

Aveed cost table 4: What a commercial plan bill can look like
Example (not a real quote) A B
Your drug share per shot, before help $250 $500
Office visit and injection fee per visit $75 $75
What you might pay at the visit $325 $575
Copay program covers (up to $300) $250 $300
Your subtotal per visit after help $75 $275
Six-visit subtotal after help $450 $1,650

See what happened in Example B? A $0 drug copay sounds great. But if your plan bills you $500 for the drug, the program caps out at $300. The visit fee isn't covered either. You still owe money every time.

And if the program pays you back after the visit, you may need the full $325 or $575 on hand at each appointment.

Costs the drug price leaves out

  • The injection fee. Ask whether this is billed separately and what your share will be. The CMS October 2026 non-QP clinician file gives a $15.36 national benchmark for CPT 96372, before local adjustments. Other clinician categories and settings can differ; this is not your copay or the full visit bill. (CMS fee file)
  • The office visit. Some offices bill a visit on injection days. Some don't. Ask.
  • Lab work. Expect testosterone and blood-count monitoring, including hematocrit, the share of your blood made of red cells. Ask whether you also need PSA (prostate-specific antigen), a blood test used in prostate assessment. Your age, risks and treatment plan affect which tests you need and when. (Endocrine Society guideline)
  • A facility fee. You may pay this if you get the shot at a hospital outpatient department instead of a doctor's office.

The copay program covers the drug only. Its terms specifically exclude office visit charges, office copays and injection fees. (Aveed proof-of-expense form)

Is Aveed worth the cost compared with other testosterone options?

If you're paying cash, compare Aveed with an FDA-approved generic injection before committing. Aveed's first-year list price is $14,333.34 for the drug alone, while the generic cypionate vial below has a much lower coupon price. For someone with good coverage who wants very few shots and nothing to handle at home, Aveed can be worth discussing with their clinician.

Here's the honest tradeoff.

Aveed doesn't come cheap, and you can't inject it at home. You go to a certified office every 10 weeks after the starter doses, plus wait 30 minutes after each shot. If lower drug cost or at-home treatment is your priority, ask your clinician whether a generic testosterone injection your plan prefers would fit. GoodRx displayed $48.79 for one 10 mL vial of 200 mg/mL generic testosterone cypionate when checked October 21, 2026. (GoodRx)

But because Aveed skips at-home dosing, you get about 5 shots a year on the maintenance schedule, though some 12-month windows contain 6. No needles in your kitchen drawer. No gel that can rub off on a partner or child. And if your coverage is good, the drug itself can cost you nothing.

Aveed cost table 5: Is Aveed worth the cost compared with other testosterone options?
Option Published drug-price example Who gives it Office trips to administer the drug More detail
Aveed $2,388.89 list per shot Certified office only, plus a 30-min wait 6 in year one, about 5 after This page

Natesto (nasal gel) $165 coupon listing for three 11 g pumps—30 days at labeled use (GoodRx, checked October 21, 2026) You, at home None Nasal testosterone and other needle-free options
Xyosted (weekly autoinjector) See guide You, at home after training None Testosterone injection costs, including Xyosted
Oral testosterone (Jatenzo, Kyzatrex, Tlando) See guide You, at home None Oral testosterone vs. injections
Testopel (pellets) See guide Office procedure Every 3–6 months Pellets vs. injections: costs and tradeoffs

These examples use different price bases and package sizes; they are not equivalent monthly or annual quotes. "No office trips" means no visit just to administer each dose; evaluation, prescriptions, lab work and follow-up still apply. Sources for the packages and formats: GoodRx Natesto, Natesto label, Xyosted label, Testopel label.

All of these are FDA-approved products, meaning the FDA reviewed each one for safety and effectiveness. That's different from compounded testosterone, which a pharmacy mixes to order. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. (FDA) For the full list, see our FDA-approved testosterone product reference.

One more point on value. The maker-funded research found that some men's testosterone was below the study's normal range before the next 10-week shot. The paper modeled how the drug moves through the body; it did not establish that a different schedule improves symptoms. (Pastuszak and colleagues, 2021) If symptoms return before your next appointment, talk with your clinician. Don't change your own schedule.

The right TRT provider is not the same for every person — it depends on whether low testosterone has been properly evaluated, your symptoms and health history, your fertility plans, your state, your insurance or cash-pay preference, your treatment-format preference, your budget, and whether online or in-person care is the better starting point. Some situations belong with primary care, urology, endocrinology, reproductive urology, or urgent or emergency care when the symptoms warrant it. Because a general answer cannot resolve those for you, use TRT Provider Guide's Find My TRT Path tool if you're also comparing online TRT programs and the questions to ask before you pay. It is educational and non-diagnostic. For Aveed coverage and local treatment costs, use the quote worksheet below with your clinic and plan.

Does insurance cover Aveed?

Aveed can be covered when your plan's requirements are met. Most policies we read required two low early-morning testosterone tests, and some required previous treatment with other testosterone products. Prior approval and the medical-versus-pharmacy benefit depend on your exact plan.

Medical benefit vs. pharmacy benefit

This is the part that trips people up. Most prescriptions run through your pharmacy benefit, which is your drug card. Aveed may run through your medical benefit, the same side of your plan that pays for doctor visits. The maker checks both medical and pharmacy benefits, so confirm which one your plan uses.

Why does that matter? Your medical deductible and coinsurance may apply instead of a flat drug copay. So a plan that charges $40 for a covered pharmacy drug could leave you owing a percentage of its allowed amount for Aveed.

Two ways Aveed gets to your appointment (AveedUSA):

Aveed cost table 6: Medical benefit vs. pharmacy benefit
Path How it works What it means for you
Buy-and-bill Your office buys Aveed from a distributor, gives the shot, and bills your plan. You usually pay your share to the office.
Specialty pharmacy A pharmacy tied to your plan ships it to your office. You pay any copay before it ships. Plan for a delay. The maker says to allow 2–4 weeks for shipment.

What insurers actually require: the 2026 rulebook

We read four current plan policies. Here are selected requirements for initial Aveed coverage for male hypogonadism. This table is not a complete eligibility checklist:

Aveed cost table 7: What insurers actually require: the 2026 rulebook
Rule Aetna (commercial) FEP Blue (federal employees) Blue Shield of California (commercial) Excellus BCBS
Prior approval Yes, in applicable plan designs Yes Yes Contract-dependent

Our takeaway: Two hurdles show up in these policies: lab records and, for some plans, earlier treatment with another testosterone product. Ask your clinician to include the records your plan requires with the first Aveed request. Complete records help avoid an incomplete submission; they do not guarantee approval.

These are examples, not promises. Your exact plan and contract decide. A policy saying "yes" doesn't mean your claim will be approved. Renewal rules differ, and Aveed REMS certification still applies even where the table does not repeat it. Excellus lists exceptions to prior-treatment rules and says its Medicare Advantage preferred-product rule does not force established patients to repeat a trial.

Aetna's policy treats Aveed for age-related low testosterone as not covered. That matches the older label wording, which says safety and effectiveness for "age-related hypogonadism" haven't been established.

In June 2026, the FDA asked testosterone makers to drop that limitation, along with some prostate warnings. (HHS) That was a request, not a finished change. Aveed's posted label still showed its July 2025 version when we checked. A requested FDA label change does not automatically change a plan's published coverage policy. If your low testosterone is tied to aging and no other cause, expect more questions from your plan.

The copay program with insurance

  • Who can use it: People with private insurance, or people paying cash, who don't have any government coverage. (AveedUSA)
  • How much: Up to $300 of your drug cost per shot. Anything above that is yours to pay.
  • What it skips: Office visits, office copays and injection fees.
  • Paperwork: Send the completed claim form and your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) within 365 days of the EOB date. Cash payers send the completed form and a billing statement within 365 days of when the prescription was filled. You're only paid back for costs while you were enrolled. (Proof-of-expense form)

The maker's site says most eligible commercial patients paid $0. That figure comes from 2016–2020 claims. Don't count on it describing your 2026 bill.

Does Medicare cover Aveed?

Medicare Part B may cover Aveed when the treatment meets the applicable coverage rules and is given in an eligible setting. For October–December 2026, the drug allowance is $1,652.25 per shot, with 18.111% coinsurance. That is about $299.24 after any remaining 2026 Part B deductible, before supplemental coverage and separate services.

An office-administered drug is not automatically covered. Ask the treating office to check the Medicare rules that apply to your claim. (Medicare outpatient drug coverage)

Medicare's price for Aveed rose every quarter in 2026

Aveed cost table 8: Medicare's price for Aveed rose every quarter in 2026
2026 quarter Medicare price per mg (J3145) Per 750 mg shot Drug coinsurance Drug share after deductible, before a supplement
January–March $2.069 $1,551.75 18.707% $290.29
April–June $2.131 $1,598.25 18.223% $291.25
July–September $2.149 $1,611.75 18.133% $292.26
October–December $2.203 $1,652.25 18.111% $299.24

That's up 6.5% from the start of the year. J3145 is Aveed's billing code. Medicare pays by the milligram, so one shot is 750 units. (CMS payment files, AveedUSA coding)

Why some Medicare patients pay a little less than 20%

Here's something almost nobody mentions. Under a 2022 law, drugmakers that raise prices faster than inflation must pay Medicare back. Medicare then lowers patients' coinsurance for those drugs.

CMS lists Aveed's billing code among those drugs. CMS reported rebates owed for that billing code of $650,042.67 for 2024 and $1,016,953.37 for 2025, as of June 2026. These are manufacturer rebates to Medicare, not payments to individual patients. (CMS 2024 fact sheet, CMS 2025 fact sheet)

Aveed's published coinsurance was below 20% in all four 2026 quarters. It was 18.707% in January–March and 18.133% in July–September; for October–December, it is 18.111%. On the $1,652.25 Q4 drug allowance, that is about $31.21 less than a full 20% share after the deductible. It's not huge, but it's real. (CMS quarterly files)

Medigap, Medicare Advantage and the copay card

  • Medigap: Your policy may pay some or all of your share of Medicare-covered care. Check its deductible, coinsurance and office-copay benefits; a single $283 annual Aveed budget does not fit every plan or a treatment year crossing two calendar years. (Medicare plan-benefit chart)
  • Medicare Advantage: These plans may require prior approval and a preferred-drug trial. Ask for your plan's network and cost-sharing answer in writing. (Medicare coverage comparison)
  • The copay card: You can't use it with Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid or VA coverage. Paying cash instead doesn't get around that. The form asks you to confirm you have no government coverage. (Proof-of-expense form)

On Medicaid? Coverage varies by state. The maker's program is off the table. Ask your state plan or your clinic's billing office.

Is there a generic Aveed?

We found no FDA-approved generic equivalent to Aveed in the FDA records checked October 21, 2026. Hikma's matching 750 mg/3 mL injection still has only tentative approval, dated December 9, 2016. Tentative approval does not allow it to be marketed in the United States.

The tentative approval belongs to Hikma for testosterone undecanoate 750 mg/3 mL. (FDA ANDA 207583, FDA definition of tentative approval) The latest monthly Orange Book index we could read was September 2026; it lists Aveed and the separate oral testosterone-undecanoate brands, but no generic Aveed injection. (FDA index) An online listing using the ingredient name "testosterone undecanoate" is not proof of an approved generic equivalent. Ask the pharmacist to verify the exact formulation and approval status.

Real ways to lower your Aveed bill:

  1. Call the copay line at 1-800-381-2638 if you have private insurance or pay cash.
  2. Ask your office which path costs you less: buy-and-bill or your plan's specialty pharmacy.
  3. Watch your deductible year. A reset can change your bill during the first 52 weeks. Budget for it; don't move treatment dates without your clinician.
  4. Check your Medigap plan if you're on Medicare.
  5. Get a written cash price for the drug, injection and visit together if you're paying out of pocket. Compare it with a generic option before you commit.

How do I get my actual Aveed cost before the first shot?

Ask your clinic and your insurer for a written estimate that splits the drug from the services around it. Write down what's included, what you pay at the visit, and what's still unknown. The maker says its free benefits service typically returns a benefits summary to your office within 72 hours.

Here's the shortcut most people miss. Your doctor's office can send a Benefits Investigation form to myAVEED (1-855-692-8333). The maker says it usually finishes within 72 hours. It summarizes your benefits, including any prior approval rules. That summary is not a guarantee of claim payment or a complete clinic quote. It can't fill out the approval paperwork for your office, but it can look into denials. (AveedUSA)

Add separately, if not already included: your first evaluation, lab tests, follow-up visits, facility fees and any shipping fees.

The math, per shot: Your cost after help = (drug share − confirmed program help) + visit and injection fees. Program help cannot exceed your eligible drug responsibility or $300 per shot.

Year one: Add all six, then add any separately billed evaluation, labs, follow-up visits, facility fees and shipping that are not already included. If anything is still "unknown," label your total "incomplete."

Three rules keep the math honest. Only subtract program help once. If your quote already includes it, don't take it off again. Don't add a deductible again if it is already part of the quoted patient share. And keep "what I pay before or at the visit" separate from "what I end up paying." A rebate that arrives later doesn't change what you need at the front desk.

Questions to ask your clinic

  1. Are both my prescriber and this exact treatment location certified in the Aveed REMS program?
  2. Do you buy Aveed and bill my plan, or does a specialty pharmacy ship it to you? Which costs me less?
  3. What will I owe for the drug, the injection, the visit and any facility fee? What's bundled together?
  4. Are you and this location in my plan's network?
  5. What could I owe if my approval is denied after you've ordered the drug, or if I cancel?
  6. Can you put the year-one estimate and your cancellation terms in writing?
  7. Are the initial evaluation, repeat morning test and ongoing monitoring included, or separately billed?
  8. Which pharmacy or distributor supplies the drug, and when must it be ordered for each appointment?
  9. How do I contact the care team between visits and get copies of my labs and medical records if I change clinics?

Questions to ask your insurer

  1. Will Aveed be paid under my medical benefit or my pharmacy benefit, for this doctor and this location?
  2. Do I need prior approval? Do I need to try another testosterone first?
  3. If approved, what dates, number of shots and location does the approval cover?
  4. What's my share of each drug charge and each visit charge?
  5. Do the drug, the visits and the labs fall under different deductibles?
  6. Do I have to use a certain specialty pharmacy?
  7. Will copay program payments count toward my deductible and out-of-pocket limit?
  8. Can I get a written estimate or a reference number for this call?

What if insurance denies Aveed or my plan changes?

Ask for the denial in writing, along with the exact policy your plan used. The fix depends on the reason: missing lab records, a "try generic first" rule, an out-of-network location, or the wrong supplier. Some denials can be addressed with missing records or an available exception or appeal.

  • Missing labs? Have the office send the pretreatment results and dates your plan requests.
  • Step therapy? If you already tried a generic injection or gel and it didn't work or caused problems, have your clinician document that truthfully and resubmit.
  • Wrong benefit or supplier? Ask whether a different specialty pharmacy or buy-and-bill would be approved.
  • Still stuck? Your office can ask myAVEED to look into the denial, and you can file an appeal.

Already on Aveed and switching plans? Call your clinic before your next shot is due. Re-check the benefit, network, supplier and approval under the new plan. Don't stretch your shot schedule on your own to save money. Talk to your clinician.

What should I know before my first Aveed shot?

You need a confirmed diagnosis first: symptoms or signs plus consistently low testosterone, confirmed with appropriate repeat early-morning blood tests on separate days. You'll get the shot only at a certified office and wait at least 30 minutes after each one. If you may want children, talk about fertility before you start.

Testing comes first

The American Urological Association calls a total testosterone level below 300 ng/dL a reasonable cut-off to support a diagnosis. But it says the diagnosis should only be made after two early-morning tests on separate days, plus symptoms or signs. One low number isn't enough. Symptoms alone aren't enough either. (AUA guideline) The Endocrine Society also calls for repeat morning fasting testing and assessment of the cause. (Endocrine Society guideline) Total testosterone is all the testosterone in your blood, both bound and unbound. Not sure where you stand? Start with our guide to how low testosterone is diagnosed.

Why the 30-minute wait exists

Aveed is made with castor oil. Rarely, tiny oil droplets reach the lungs during or right after the shot. That's called pulmonary oil microembolism (POME). It can cause coughing, trouble breathing, throat tightness, chest pain, dizziness or fainting. Serious allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) can happen too. That's why Aveed carries the FDA's strongest warning, a boxed warning, and why you stay 30 minutes after every shot. (Aveed label)

Who can't get Aveed under the current label

The Aveed label retrieved for this October 21, 2026 check says not to use it if you have breast cancer, have or might have prostate cancer, or are allergic to any ingredient (testosterone undecanoate, castor oil or benzyl benzoate). (Aveed label) The FDA has asked for some prostate wording to change, but your clinician will use the label in effect when you're treated.

Blood pressure and follow-up

In 2025, the FDA required class-wide blood-pressure labeling updates for testosterone products. It also added results from TRAVERSE, a large heart-safety study. (FDA) Expect your clinician to monitor blood pressure and blood counts and discuss prostate monitoring, including PSA when appropriate. Those visits and labs belong in your budget.

If you might want children

Testosterone therapy can lower sperm count. The AUA says men who are interested in fertility should have a reproductive health evaluation before starting treatment. (AUA guideline, Aveed label) If having kids soon matters to you, see a urologist or reproductive urologist first. Our TRT and fertility guide explains the options.

Aveed may also be prescribed off-label in gender-affirming care. Insurance rules and clinical guidance for that are different, and this page doesn't cover them. (Aetna coverage policy)

How do I find an Aveed provider near me?

Both the prescriber and the office, clinic or hospital giving the shot must be certified in the Aveed REMS program. Ask your urologist or endocrinologist first, or use the maker's AVEEDfinder locator. Then confirm the office is in your plan's network before you book.

An online TRT visit can't replace this. Even if a telehealth clinician writes the prescription, the shot itself has to happen in a certified setting with a 30-minute stay. A specialty pharmacy ships Aveed to the office, not to your house. (AveedUSA)

Ready to find a certified office? Open the maker's AVEEDfinder locator → It's a starting point, not a network check. Call your insurer to confirm the office is in-network.

If Aveed doesn't fit your budget or schedule: other care routes

If you'd be paying cash, a generic testosterone prescription through your own doctor is one lower-cost drug option to compare. If you'd rather explore online care after discussing a different format with your clinician, the programs below have different fees and inclusions. We did not verify Aveed access through any of them.

Stop here if: your doctor wants you on Aveed specifically and your insurance covers it. Stay with your doctor. This section is for readers who are priced out, were denied, or are done with an office trip every 10 weeks.

First, the non-paid option. Ask the doctor who suggested Aveed whether a generic testosterone injection your plan prefers would work for you. Ask your plan what the preferred product would cost. If a prior-treatment rule applies, ask which product, duration and documented response it requires. Compare more routes in our guide to TRT providers that take insurance.

What we actually verified

  • Date checked: October 21, 2026
  • Sources we read: Keenova's price disclosure; the Aveed label; AveedUSA's savings and ordering pages; the copay program's proof-of-expense form; CMS payment and inflation-rebate data for J3145; Medicare.gov; the 2026 Part B deductible; Drugs.com, WebMDRx and GoodRx listings; Aetna, FEP Blue, Blue Shield of California and Excellus policies; FDA product records and the September 2026 Orange Book index; specialty guidance; FDA and HHS labeling announcements; each program's pricing, product and billing disclosures.
  • Facts we confirmed: list price and effective date; label schedule, boxed warning and 30-minute observation; copay program limits and exclusions; Medicare payment amounts and reduced coinsurance by quarter; insurer requirements and policy dates; no FDA-approved generic equivalent found in the FDA records checked.
  • What the companies say (not tested by us): the online programs' prices, what's included, guarantees, and medication sources.
  • What we could not confirm: whether any office or pharmacy accepts a retail discount card for Aveed; your clinic's total bill; the exact drug, pharmacy, state availability and final checkout terms for an individual online-program patient. We did not buy anything, call a clinic, or have a clinician review this page.

Hone Health

  • Best for: someone comparing a self-pay membership with scheduled labs and clinician visits included, after their clinician agrees that a different treatment format fits.
  • Not for: anyone who wants the program's services billed to insurance, or who wants only 5 shots a year. (Self-payment policy)
  • What it says it costs (checked October 21, 2026): a $65 initial at-lab test, a $25 confirmatory test for TRT, and a $155/month Premium membership. Twelve membership payments plus those tests total $1,950 before medication. Injectable testosterone cypionate starts at $28 per vial, not per month; a full-year total needs the prescribed quantity and refill schedule. Hone says follow-up labs, consults and shipping are included. (Premium pricing)
  • Easy to miss: the $28 is for the medication only. The membership costs extra. Hone says products can be compounded or sourced from generic manufacturers; ask for the exact drug and dispensing pharmacy. (Product-source policy)
  • Before paying: check the Premium state list. Membership and medication orders have separate cancellation steps; processed or shipped orders are not refundable, and partial membership months are not refunded. (Cancellation terms)

Does a monthly membership with separate medication pricing fit you better than Aveed's per-shot bills? See Hone's current membership and medication pricing →

Taurus Meds

  • Before treating it as an alternative: get the product and fee questions below answered in writing.
  • What it says it costs: its homepage advertises a free testosterone test, while a separate offer lists $49 for testing and consultation, then $149/month for medication if prescribed. Twelve $149 payments plus $49 total $1,837 for those listed components; this is not a verified complete first-year quote. Ask which offer applies and what repeat tests and follow-up cost. (Homepage, published offer)
  • Easy to miss: the offer says no membership fees, but the terms list $17.99 per billing period unless otherwise stated at purchase. The homepage advertises FDA-approved medications, while the offer also discusses compounded medication. Those statements do not establish what you would receive. Ask for the exact medication, approval status, dispensing pharmacy and total before paying. (Terms)
  • Before paying: confirm service in your state and the refill and lab schedule. Its refund policy requires cancellation at least 72 hours before billing to avoid the next charge; ask which charges are refundable before enrolling. (Cancellation and refund policy)

Want to compare the test and treatment offer? See Taurus Meds' current TRT program details → Resolve the product and fee questions before starting a paid intake.

Male Excel

  • Best for: someone who wants hands-on online support, including unlimited e-visits and support-team messaging, and a cream option.
  • Not for: an Aveed patient who wants only FDA-approved products. Male Excel says its compounded medications aren't FDA-approved. If that matters to you, ask your own prescriber and pharmacy for an exact FDA-approved product; neither Hone nor Taurus is a blanket guarantee of one. (Male Excel FAQ)
  • What it says it costs: a $99 consult with a home hormone test, a $99/month membership, and a testosterone-cypionate-and-thyroid medication bundle from $120/month, billed as a 60-day supply every other month. The cream-and-thyroid bundle starts at $132/month. The $2,727 subtotal is the $99 consult plus twelve months of $99 membership and the $120 medication minimum; shipping is extra, and the page does not establish the cost of any additional required testing. It is a component subtotal, not a complete first-year quote. Ask for the actual refill billing dates and whether thyroid medicine is clinically needed. (Pricing, FAQ)
  • Before paying: its FAQ lists service in all states except Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. It names AnazaoHealth and WellDyneRx-Fl as pharmacy partners, but confirm the pharmacy and exact preparation for your prescription. Ask how repeat morning testing and ongoing monitoring are handled and billed. (FAQ)
  • Refund limits: prescription sales are final under its FAQ. The 90-day guarantee has conditions and covers the first three months of membership fees, not medication costs; its terms require a claim within 30 days after the 90-day period. Read the conditions before relying on it. (Guarantee terms)

For any online program, confirm the clinician can treat you in your state, what repeat morning testing costs, when refills are charged, how cancellation affects pending orders, and how to obtain your labs and medical records. A headline price cannot answer those for you.

None of these programs can promise you a prescription. A licensed clinician decides after reviewing your history and blood work. Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance and requires a valid prescription. (Aveed prescribing information) Compounded testosterone is not FDA-approved and is not the same as Aveed or any other FDA-approved product.

How we checked these Aveed prices

We checked the published figures against the maker, CMS, FDA records, insurer policies, program terms and public price tools on October 21, 2026. We did the budget math ourselves and separated source prices from the costs that still need your own quote. The commercial examples use clearly labeled made-up numbers.

We followed our published method, How We Review TRT Providers. It keeps four things separate: verified facts, what companies say about themselves, customer experiences, and our own conclusions. It also calls for full-year costs instead of teaser prices.

Here's what this page is not. It isn't a hands-on review. We didn't buy Aveed, call a clinic for a quote, or have a clinician review this version. The date at the top identifies this check; a later price, Medicare rate or policy change can change the answer. Send a source or correction through our corrections page.

Aveed cost FAQ

Aveed cost depends on the drug price, your coverage and the services your clinic bills. These answers use the October 21, 2026 check; your written clinic and insurer estimate should cover your actual appointment dates.

How much does Aveed cost per injection?

The maker's list price is $2,388.89 per 750 mg shot as of October 1, 2026. Drugs.com displayed $2,233.43 for the 3 mL vial. For a covered Original Medicare claim in October–December 2026, the drug share is about $299.24 after the deductible, before a supplement. Eligible commercial patients may owe $0 for the drug after approved assistance, but the program pays at most $300 per shot and excludes service fees.

How much does Aveed cost per year?

The first 52 weeks have 6 shots, so the drug alone lists at $14,333.34 if the October 2026 price holds. Later 12-month windows can have 5 or 6. Six post-deductible Original Medicare drug claims would total $1,795.44 at the fixed Q4 2026 rate, but that is an illustration, not a forecast: quarterly rates, deductible resets and separate services change the actual bill.

Is Aveed covered by insurance?

Aveed can be covered when your plan's criteria are met. The policies we checked include repeat morning tests and, in some cases, prior treatment with other testosterone products. Confirm your exact approval and benefit rules.

Does Medicare cover Aveed?

Medicare Part B may cover Aveed when the applicable coverage rules are met. In October–December 2026, the drug share is 18.111% of $1,652.25, or about $299.24 after any remaining Part B deductible, before a supplement. The 2026 annual Part B deductible is $283; service charges are separate.

Is there an Aveed coupon or copay card?

Yes. The Aveed Copay Assistance Program (1-800-381-2638) pays up to $300 of your drug cost per shot. It's for people with private insurance or paying cash, never for government plans, and it doesn't cover office visits or injection fees.

Is there a generic Aveed?

We found no FDA-approved generic equivalent in the FDA records checked October 21, 2026, including the September Orange Book index. Hikma's matching injection still has only tentative approval, which does not permit U.S. marketing.

Why is Aveed so expensive?

We did not find an approved generic equivalent in the FDA records checked, and Aveed must be given in certified settings. Its list price rose 4.85% twice in 2026. CMS also reported inflation rebates owed for its billing code in 2024 and 2025. Those are documented facts; they do not prove every reason the maker chose this price.

How often do you get Aveed shots?

The label schedule is one shot to start, one at 4 weeks, then one every 10 weeks. Your clinician sets your actual schedule.

Why do I have to wait 30 minutes after an Aveed shot?

Rarely, oil from the shot can reach the lungs (POME), or a serious allergic reaction can happen. Staff watch you for 30 minutes so they can treat it right away.

Can I get Aveed online or give it to myself?

You cannot give it to yourself. Even if a consultation happens online, the injection must be given in a certified office, clinic or hospital, followed by at least 30 minutes of observation. A specialty pharmacy ships it to the office, not to your home.

What billing codes show up on an Aveed bill?

Usually J3145 for the drug, billed as 750 units per shot, and CPT 96372 for the injection. Ask your billing office to confirm the codes they'll use.

Is Aveed cheaper than testosterone cypionate?

The published drug-price examples here are much higher for Aveed, but your insured share can differ. GoodRx displayed $48.79 for one 10 mL vial of 200 mg/mL generic cypionate on October 21, 2026, compared with Aveed's $2,388.89 list price per shot. These are different price bases and package sizes. How long a vial lasts depends on what your clinician prescribes and the pharmacy's use-and-discard instructions.

Does a $0 Aveed copay include the visit?

No. The copay program covers the drug only. Office visits, office copays and injection fees are excluded.

Can my Aveed estimate change?

Yes. A new plan year, a new deductible, a different location, an approval ending, or a list-price change can all change it. Ask how long your quote is good for.

Does Aveed affect fertility?

Testosterone therapy can lower sperm count. If you may want children, get a reproductive health evaluation before you start.
