Enclomiphene reviews are split for a real reason. In clinical trials, enclomiphene reliably raised testosterone in men with secondary hypogonadism, and sperm concentrations were maintained while testosterone gel suppressed gonadotropins and spermatogenesis. But FDA and European regulators did not find symptom benefit established. Long-term safety remains uncertain, and no enclomiphene drug product is FDA-approved.
That split explains almost every review you've read. A recurring complaint online — "my testosterone went up, but I don't feel any different" — reflects the same gap U.S. and European regulators pointed to years ago. Below, we'll show you where it comes from, which enclomiphene reviews are worth trusting, and how to tell whether you're the kind of man the research actually describes.
Worth discussing with a clinician if: your low testosterone has been confirmed on repeat morning tests, a clinician thinks the cause is a weak signal from your brain rather than your testicles, and keeping sperm production going matters to you.
Probably not your answer if: your testicles are the cause, you and your partner are trying to conceive soon (see a fertility specialist first), you're drug-tested for sport or military service, or proven symptom relief matters more to you than fertility. Testosterone therapy has stronger evidence for that last goal.
What it really costs: published program prices vary widely. Hone's current Plus pricing models to about $2,169 for year one at its $42/month starting medication price, while Taurus advertises $49 to start plus $149/month but its general terms also contain a separate $17.99 recurring membership-fee clause. Treat Taurus's $1,837 arithmetic as a conditional advertised starting total, not a verified all-in bill.
Enclomiphene at a glance

What do enclomiphene reviews actually say?
Most enclomiphene reviews fall into four groups: men whose numbers and symptoms both improved, men whose numbers rose but who felt the same, men who stopped because of side effects, and men it didn't help at all. The research explains each group. The biggest one — "my labs look great but I feel the same" — matches the exact gap regulators flagged.
Here's the first thing to know. An "enclomiphene review" can be about four different things, and people mix them up constantly:
- Hormones — did testosterone, LH or FSH go up on a blood test?
- Symptoms — did sex drive, energy, mood or erections actually change?
- Sperm and fertility — did sperm production hold up?
- Side effects — did anything go wrong?
A glowing review about hormone numbers and a furious review about sex drive can both be true at the same time. They're just measuring different things.
The four groups of enclomiphene reviews
| Group | What men say (paraphrased from forums) | What the research says | The question it should make you ask |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. "It worked" | Testosterone went up, felt good, no side effects noticed | The testosterone rise is well proven. Some trials found better sexual-desire scores. 3 | "Which symptom are we tracking, and how will we measure it?" |
| 2. "Numbers up, feel the same" | Labs look great; energy, mood or libido didn't follow | Regulators found no proof of symptom benefit. Pooled symptom results were mixed. 123 | "What's the plan if I don't feel different at my first check?" |
| 3. "Side effects made me stop" | Estrogen trouble, mood changes, headaches, eye floaters | Headache, hot flushes, nausea and muscle spasms were most common. Blurred vision and aggression led some trial participants to stop. 1 | "Which side effects should I report, and how fast?" |
| 4. "It did nothing" | No change at all | It only works if the testicles can respond. The pooled trials excluded men whose testicles were the problem. 3 | "Is my low testosterone a signaling problem or a testicle problem?" |
What positive enclomiphene reviews say
Happy reviewers usually report a big jump in testosterone, no side effects they could notice, and relief at avoiding injections. Men who want children later often say enclomiphene felt like the safer bet for their plans.
Those experiences are real. But one man's result can't tell you yours. We treat these reports as useful signals about what to ask, not as proof of what will happen.
What negative enclomiphene reviews say
The same complaints come up again and again in forum threads we read in September 2026:
- "My numbers went up, but I don't feel better." In one r/Testosterone thread about three-month labs, a commenter said higher numbers on enclomiphene "don't equate to feeling much better" — and the original poster agreed. 46
- Estrogen problems. Men describe estradiol rising and trouble getting it back in range.
- Eye symptoms. In a June 2024 thread, one user blamed lasting floaters on it and complained that sellers "promote Enclo as side effect free online." 47
- Switching to testosterone. Some threads describe posters moving to TRT after disappointing symptom results.
These are individual reports. They can't show how often a problem happens or prove enclomiphene caused it. They can tell you which questions to bring to your clinician — and they line up closely with what the formal reviews found.
A warning about "research chemical" enclomiphene reviews
Some reviews online describe enclomiphene bought as a "research chemical" labeled not for human use. That isn't a prescription medicine. Nobody verified what's in it, and reviews of it tell you nothing about the prescription drug. We don't name or link those sellers.
Which enclomiphene reviews can you trust?
Almost no enclomiphene review online is an independent review of the drug itself. Company testimonials are chosen by the seller, Trustpilot scores rate the whole company, forum posts are self-selected, and we found no enclomiphene page on Drugs.com. Only controlled clinical trials compare enclomiphene with a placebo.
We went looking for the reviews people actually find. Here's what each source is — and what it can and can't tell you.
Where "enclomiphene reviews" come from (checked September 17, 2026)
| Where the review lives | What we found | Is it about plain enclomiphene? | Who picks what you see? | Can it prove the drug works? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drugs.com | No enclomiphene review page. Its clomiphene page showed 266 reviews averaging 7.7/10; the entries we read were about women's infertility. 45 | No | Independent platform | No |
| Taurus Meds enclomiphene page | A "★★★★★ 1.5k reviews" badge that doesn't name its source, plus more than 20 "Verified Buyer" quotes. Several quotes describe "TRT" or "Taurus TRT," and none we read names enclomiphene. 25 | Not stated | The seller | No |
| Taurus Meds on Trustpilot | 4.3 out of 5 from 886 reviews: 76% five-star, 12% one-star. Trustpilot notes Taurus hasn't recently invited reviews and has replied to 1% of negative ones. Reviews cover several Taurus products. 44 | Mixed | Independent platform | No — company experience only |
| Male Excel reviews page | Nine different testimonials, each labeled "Verified TRT Patient." None mentions Triclozene or enclomiphene. 32 | No | The seller | No |
| Male Excel on Trustpilot | 4.5 out of 5 from 6,447 reviews: 82% five-star, 7% one-star. Male Excel invites customers to review, pays for a Trustpilot subscription and has replied to 83% of negative reviews. Mostly testosterone therapy customers. 43 | No | Independent platform | No |
| Maximus "clinical study review" | A company study of 1,250 men reporting an 81.8% average rise in total testosterone. Some men had been on treatment only 3–4 weeks. No placebo group is described, and it says a symptom questionnaire was used but gives no symptom scores. 39 | Yes (its own protocol) | The seller | Hormones only, and not against placebo |
| Reddit and YouTube | Recurring themes: numbers up but mood and energy flat, estrogen trouble, eye worries, switching to TRT. 4647 | Often unclear | Anyone | No — but great for building your question list |
| Controlled clinical trials | 10 randomized trials with 819 men pooled in a 2025 review, plus the Phase 3 program FDA summarized. 13 | Yes (some pooled with clomiphene) | Researchers and regulators | Yes — for hormones. Symptoms were barely measured. |
What this shows: most of what looks like an "enclomiphene review" is a company choosing its own quotes, a company-wide star rating, or an anonymous forum post. The only reviews that test enclomiphene against a placebo are clinical trials — and they measured blood levels far more carefully than they measured how men felt.
The 30-second test for any enclomiphene review
Before a review changes your mind, check five things:
- Does it name plain enclomiphene — not "TRT," a blend, or a "research" product?
- Did someone other than the seller choose to show it to you?
- Does it say how long the person took it and whether low testosterone was confirmed first?
- Is it about the drug, or about shipping and customer service?
- Would it hold up if it were the only review you read?
Why this page doesn't give enclomiphene a star rating
A star rating would blend a well-proven lab effect, an unproven symptom effect and an unknown long-term risk into one number. That would hide the part that matters most for you. We also don't publish customer quotes about how well an unapproved drug worked, because one person's result can't show what's typical.
Does enclomiphene actually work for low testosterone?
Enclomiphene reliably raised testosterone in clinical trials of men whose low testosterone came from a weak brain signal rather than from the testicles. What those trials didn't show is that men felt better; the FDA and Europe's medicines agency both said symptom benefit wasn't demonstrated. So "it works" is true for the blood test and unproven for how you feel.
What enclomiphene is, in plain English
Enclomiphene citrate is a SERM, short for selective estrogen receptor modulator. It's a pill that blocks estrogen's "slow down" message in your brain. 1
When that message is blocked, your pituitary gland releases more of two hormones:
- LH (luteinizing hormone) tells the testicles to make testosterone.
- FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) supports sperm production.
Enclomiphene is one of two halves of clomiphene, the drug sold as Clomid. The other half, zuclomiphene, acts more like estrogen and lingers in the body much longer. 17
It is not testosterone. It doesn't replace your hormone; it asks your body to make more of its own. That's why calling it "natural TRT" is wrong — and why it can only work if your testicles are able to answer the call.
Numbers vs. feelings: what the evidence shows
| What you might hope for | What the evidence shows | How strong | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Higher total testosterone | Yes. About +274 ng/dL on average versus placebo across pooled trials, though results varied a lot from study to study. | Strong | 3 |
| Higher LH and FSH | Yes, in every enclomiphene trial FDA summarized. | Strong | 14 |
| Sperm concentration kept up | Much higher than on testosterone gel; no significant difference from placebo. | Moderate | 3 |
| Better odds of having a baby | Never tested. No enclomiphene trial measured pregnancy. | Not shown | 1 |
| More energy, libido or better mood | Mixed. FDA said the trials didn't demonstrate meaningful symptom improvement. | Not proven | 123 |
| Weight loss or better blood sugar | No significant effect versus placebo. | Not shown | 3 |
| Estradiol (estrogen) | Rose about +34 pg/mL versus placebo in pooled clomiphene/enclomiphene evidence; this is not an enclomiphene-only estimate. | Moderate | 3 |
| Fewer side effects than Clomid | 13.8% vs. 47% in one clinic's records after men switched. | Limited | 7 |
| Long-term safety | Unknown. Controlled trials lasted 2–30 weeks. | Unknown | 3 |
Our editorial conclusion: enclomiphene is well proven to move a lab number. It is not proven to move how you feel. Most mixed reviews live in that gap.
What the key trials found
- The Phase 3 trials (Kim and colleagues, 2016). Two 16-week trials compared enclomiphene with testosterone gel and placebo in men with the signaling type of low testosterone. Testosterone rose in all the active groups. LH and FSH went up on enclomiphene and down on gel, and sperm counts held up on enclomiphene. 14
- A Phase 2 trial (Wiehle and colleagues, 2014). Over three months, enclomiphene raised testosterone while LH and FSH rose; testosterone gel pushed them down. Estradiol went up in every active group. 15
- A 6-week dose study (Wiehle and colleagues). Across three enclomiphene doses, testosterone, LH and FSH all rose, and testosterone levels were more consistent than on a testosterone skin product. 16
- The 2025 meta-analysis (Hohl and colleagues). It pooled 10 randomized trials with 819 men taking clomiphene or enclomiphene. Testosterone rose about 274 ng/dL versus placebo, with no significant difference from testosterone gel. It left out studies that included men whose testicles were the problem. 3
One caution about that meta-analysis: it combined clomiphene and enclomiphene. Its findings describe the drug family, not enclomiphene alone.
Why do some men say their labs improved but they still felt bad?
A higher testosterone number and feeling better aren't the same thing. The trials that went to U.S. and European regulators measured blood levels and sperm counts, not energy, sex drive or mood — and both regulators said that wasn't enough. That's why "great labs, same me" is a recurring disappointed enclomiphene review.
Why a lab result isn't the same as treatment success
Low energy, low sex drive and low mood have many possible causes: poor sleep, sleep apnea, depression, weight, stress, other medications and more. Raising testosterone won't fix a symptom that testosterone wasn't causing.
For enclomiphene specifically, there's a second problem. When Europe's medicines agency refused it in 2018, it said the studies "did not look at whether" the drug would improve symptoms such as impotence and libido. 2 In its 2022 review, the FDA said the trials didn't demonstrate "clinically meaningful improvement in symptoms or signs." 1
A 2026 analysis of the closely related drug clomiphene points the same way: testosterone therapy was linked to bigger improvements in sex drive than clomiphene. The authors rated that evidence low-certainty, and it came from just three studies with 199 men — but it matches what many forum posters describe. 8
The honest trade-off
Here's the part most enclomiphene pages skip: enclomiphene doesn't have proof that it makes men feel better. If feeling better is the main thing you want and you're not planning to have children soon, testosterone therapy has the stronger evidence for some sexual symptoms and is the more direct route. Compare testosterone treatment options — or jump to enclomiphene vs. TRT below.
But that same design is exactly why men choose enclomiphene. Because it turns up your own signal instead of replacing your testosterone, trial participants' sperm concentration stayed far higher than it did on testosterone gel. 3 If keeping that door open matters to you, that's the trade you're making — even though no one can promise it protects your ability to have children.
Why the answer depends on you
The right TRT provider is not the same for every person — it depends on whether low testosterone has been properly evaluated, your symptoms and health history, your fertility plans, your state, your insurance or cash-pay preference, your treatment-format preference, your budget, and whether online or in-person care is the better starting point. Some situations belong with primary care, urology, endocrinology, reproductive urology, or urgent or emergency care when the symptoms warrant it. Because a general answer cannot resolve those for you, use TRT Provider Guide's Find My TRT Path tool to map your situation to the right care route and the questions to ask before you pay.
One thing the tool won't do: pick your medication. Enclomiphene isn't testosterone replacement therapy, and only a clinician who has reviewed your history and labs can decide whether it fits.
What have the FDA and European regulators concluded about enclomiphene?
No enclomiphene drug product has been approved in the U.S. or Europe. FDA did not approve the U.S. application, Europe's medicines agency refused the European application in 2018 over unproven symptom benefit and a blood-clot concern, and an FDA advisory committee voted 8–4 in 2022 against adding enclomiphene citrate to the 503A Bulks List. FDA's May 14, 2026 Category 1 list still places enclomiphene citrate under evaluation, so qualifying 503A compounding can continue under FDA's interim enforcement policy.
Think of these as the official enclomiphene reviews. Each one landed on the same missing piece.
Every formal verdict on enclomiphene, 2015–2026
| When | Who reviewed it | What they concluded | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2015 | U.S. FDA (Repros Therapeutics' application for men with the signaling type of low testosterone and normal sperm counts) | Not approved. The FDA said the study design was no longer adequate to show clinical benefit, and raised concerns about who was enrolled, dose adjustments and lab-method validation. 1 | It wasn't turned down as "dangerous." It was turned down because the studies weren't built to prove men would benefit. |
| Jan 25, 2018 (formally refused Apr 6, 2018) | European Medicines Agency (sold there as "EnCyzix") | Refused. Four main studies with 588 patients measured sperm and testosterone but didn't look at symptoms, and there was a risk of blood clots in the veins. Benefits didn't outweigh risks. 2 | The same gap the FDA found — plus a clot concern. |
| June 8, 2022 | FDA staff and its Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee | FDA staff recommended against adding enclomiphene to the main list of substances pharmacies may compound. The committee voted 4 yes, 8 no. FDA listed safety concerns including heart and blood-clot events and rises in estradiol, PSA and hematocrit. 19 | The most detailed U.S. review of the drug found the same gaps. |
| May 14, 2026 | FDA's compounding category list | Enclomiphene citrate is still in Category 1, "under evaluation." 10 | Pharmacies can compound it for now under an FDA interim policy with conditions. That is not approval. 11 |
| Feb 13, 2026 (July 2026 print issue) | British Society of Sexual Medicine position statement | Cautiously positive for selected men, with use best kept to specialists or research settings because long-term evidence is limited. 13 | The first medical-society statement on the drug. See the note below on who wrote it. |
What "not approved" does and doesn't mean
"Not approved" doesn't mean proven dangerous. It means there's no FDA-reviewed label, no official dosing guide, and no FDA check of each compounded batch before it reaches you. 12
Who wrote the newest expert statement
The 2026 British statement is worth reading, and you should know who wrote it. Three of its five authors list an affiliation with Menwell Limited, a company that runs the telehealth brands Voy, Manual and H3 Health. The statement's conflict-of-interest section says the authors have nothing to disclose. 13 We're not suggesting bad faith. We just think you deserve that context when you weigh it.
Clomid's approval doesn't cover enclomiphene
Clomid (clomiphene) is FDA-approved to help women with ovulation problems who want to get pregnant. Its use in men is off-label. That approval doesn't extend to enclomiphene sold on its own. 17 If you're weighing the older drug, see our clomiphene provider comparison.
Who is enclomiphene for — and who should skip it?
The enclomiphene trials mainly studied adult men with secondary hypogonadism, often overweight men age 18–60. If your situation looks different, the evidence is less direct. If primary testicular failure is suspected, you're trying to conceive soon, you're drug-tested, or low testosterone hasn't been properly confirmed, start with the appropriate clinician rather than a subscription.
The 60-second evidence check
This isn't a diagnosis or an eligibility test. It simply shows whether the published research describes men in your situation. Answer these six questions, then find your result below.
- Has low testosterone been confirmed on two early-morning blood tests?
- Has a clinician told you whether the cause is a signaling problem (brain and pituitary) or a testicle problem?
- Are you and a partner hoping to conceive in the next 12 months?
- Are you drug-tested for sport, or serving in the military?
- Are you over 60?
- What matters more to you: keeping sperm production going, or proven symptom relief?
| If this is you… | What the research says | Your best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Drug-tested athlete or service member (Q4 = yes) | Anti-doping rules prohibit clomiphene-type drugs at all times, and a prescription alone isn't permission. The Defense Department's supplement safety program flags enclomiphene. 202122 | Talk to your anti-doping authority or military healthcare provider before any civilian clinic. |
| Trying to conceive soon (Q3 = yes) | No enclomiphene trial measured pregnancy. 1 | Start with a reproductive urologist or another fertility-focused clinician. See TRT and fertility. |
| A clinician says your testicles are the cause (Q2) | The pooled trials left these men out. Turning up the signal may not help. 3 | Urology or endocrinology to sort out the cause first. |
| Low testosterone not yet confirmed twice (Q1 = no or not sure) | Diagnosis requires symptoms plus consistently low morning results, not one number. 1415 | Confirm it first. Our low-testosterone testing guide explains how. |
| Confirmed twice, signaling cause, 60 or younger, sperm production matters | This is the group the studies describe best. | Read the side-effect and cost sections, then take our questions to a clinician. |
| Same as above, but over 60 | The research only partly describes you. Studies with older, heavier men showed smaller testosterone gains on average. 3 | Same next step, with extra attention to monitoring. |
| Proven symptom relief matters more than fertility (Q6) | Testosterone therapy has the stronger symptom evidence. 814 | See enclomiphene vs TRT vs Clomid. |
| Nobody has told you the cause (Q2 = not told) | Enclomiphene only helps one type of low testosterone. 13 | Ask your clinician directly: "Is this a signaling problem or a testicle problem?" |
A note on age and weight
In the 2025 meta-analysis, studies with older and heavier men showed smaller average testosterone gains. That's a pattern across studies, not a prediction for you, and it isn't a reason on its own to rule you in or out. 3
Not sure which row is you? That's normal — most men haven't been told whether their low testosterone is a signaling problem or a testicle problem. Get your personalized care-route checklist in Find My TRT Path → Free and educational. It doesn't diagnose low testosterone or choose a medication.
What side effects show up in enclomiphene reviews and studies?
Commonly reported adverse effects in the enclomiphene evidence include headache, hot flushes, nausea, muscle spasms and dizziness. Regulators also reviewed thromboembolic events, hematocrit or PSA increases and visual concerns, but the available studies cannot establish how often every serious event was caused by enclomiphene. Long-term controlled safety data are lacking.
Get emergency care for: chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, a swollen or painful leg, or sudden vision loss. Contact your prescriber promptly for: new blurred vision or floaters, strong mood changes, or headaches that won't quit. Don't wait on a subscription support inbox.
What men report vs. what studies recorded
Two terms first. Hematocrit is the share of your blood made of red blood cells. PSA (prostate-specific antigen) is a prostate blood marker; a rise isn't a cancer diagnosis, but it's something clinicians track.
The counts below come from an open-label safety study (called ZA-300) that FDA summarized in 2022. It followed 499 men who started ZA-300 for 26 weeks — 216 on 12.5 mg and 283 who moved up to 25 mg. The adverse-event tables cover 490 men. There was no comparison group, so these are reports, not proof the drug caused each one. 1
| What men report | What the research recorded | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Headaches | 35 of 490 men (7.1%). enclomiphene side effects recorded in human trials. Europe listed headache among the most common side effects and a reason some men stopped. 1 | Report headaches that persist. |
| Hot flushes | 11 reports among 499 men. Among the most common in Europe's review. 1 | Report it; it's a known effect of this drug class. |
| Muscle cramps or spasms | 22 reports among 499 men. Also a reason some men stopped. 1 | Report persistent cramps. |
| Nausea | Among the most common in Europe's review. One trial participant stopped over nausea and dry heaving. 1 | Report it. |
| Dizziness | 11 reports among 499 men. 1 | Report it. |
| Blurred vision or floaters | Blurred vision led some men to stop. Animal studies raised eye-lens concerns; Europe called the human data inconclusive and asked for eye monitoring. 1 | Get new vision changes checked promptly. Sudden vision loss is an emergency. |
| Mood swings, irritability, anxiety | Aggression led some men to stop. Anxiety and depression were reported in the Phase 3 trials. 1 | Tell your clinician early. |
| Low sex drive or trouble climaxing | One trial participant stopped over inability to climax. 1 In one clinic, decreased libido was recorded in 8.6% of men on enclomiphene vs. 33.3% on clomiphene. 7 | Agree on how your sex drive will be tracked. |
| "My estrogen is high" | Estradiol rose about 34 pg/mL vs. placebo in pooled mixed clomiphene/enclomiphene evidence—not an enclomiphene-only estimate—and stayed up a month after stopping in one trial. 13 | Ask whether estradiol will be checked and how your clinician would interpret a change. |
| Higher red blood cells or PSA | In the Phase 3 trials, one man stopped for high hematocrit and one for high PSA. 1 | Ask which safety labs are appropriate for you and why. |
| Blood clots | Europe cited a risk of clots in the veins. Serious events in the 26-week safety study included two deep-vein clots and one lung clot. 12 | A swollen or painful leg, chest pain or sudden breathlessness needs emergency care. |
One more data point. When FDA reviewed enclomiphene in 2022, its adverse-event reporting database had no reports for it. 1 For a drug that's only compounded, that silence isn't proof of safety.
Estrogen on enclomiphene
Estrogen questions fill enclomiphene forums, so here's what's known:
- Across pooled mixed clomiphene/enclomiphene evidence, estradiol rose about 34 pg/mL more than with placebo; this is not an enclomiphene-only estimate. 3
- In one trial, estradiol stayed elevated a month after men stopped. 1
- In one clinic's records, estradiol fell after men switched from clomiphene to enclomiphene. 7
The takeaway: ask whether estradiol will be checked and what your clinician will do with the result. Don't try to "fix" estrogen on your own.
Is enclomiphene gentler than Clomid?
The best real-world data comes from a 2024 Baylor College of Medicine study of 66 men who took clomiphene and later switched to enclomiphene. 7
| Side effect recorded | Clomiphene | Enclomiphene |
|---|---|---|
| Any side effect | 47% | 13.8% |
| Decreased libido | 33.3% | 8.6% |
| Decreased energy | 16.7% | 5.2% |
| Mood changes | 9.1% | 0% |
| Median testosterone change | +98 ng/dL | +166 ng/dL (difference not significant) |
| Median estradiol change | +17.5 pg/mL | −5.92 pg/mL |
That looks like a clear win for enclomiphene, and it may be. But keep the limits in view. It was one clinic, it looked back at charts, and men switched straight from one drug to the other without a break, so leftover clomiphene may have played a part. About 22% of the men had the testicular type of low testosterone. And while 66 men were enrolled, the enclomiphene percentages in the side-effect table work out to a group of 58; the paper doesn't explain the difference. 7
"Side-effect free" is a sales line
Some sellers lean hard on mildness. Male Excel's Triclozene page calls its side effects "relatively mild." 29 Maximus's company study says no significant adverse effects were reported. 39 The published trials and FDA's review describe more than that. 1
What about the long run?
Nobody knows yet. The randomized trials lasted 2 to 30 weeks, and the open-label safety study lasted 26 weeks. 13 There's no controlled long-term data.
Does enclomiphene preserve fertility?
Enclomiphene keeps the brain's signal to the testicles running, and in trials sperm concentration stayed much higher than on testosterone gel. But no enclomiphene trial measured whether couples conceived, and FDA has said better sperm numbers alone don't prove better fertility. It's a reasonable reason to consider enclomiphene, not a guarantee.
Spermatogenesis is your body's sperm production. It depends on FSH and on high testosterone levels inside the testicles.
Why testosterone and enclomiphene affect sperm differently
Testosterone therapy adds hormone from outside your body. Your brain notices and turns down LH and FSH, which can shut down sperm production. That's why the American Urological Association and American Society for Reproductive Medicine advise against testosterone therapy alone for men who want children now or later. 16
Enclomiphene does the opposite. It turns the signal up, so LH and FSH rise. 1
What the numbers show
- Compared with testosterone gel, sperm concentration averaged about 70 million/mL higher, and men were far less likely to drop below 15 million/mL. 3
- Compared with placebo, there was no significant difference. In other words, enclomiphene didn't suppress sperm — but it didn't clearly boost it either. 3
- No trial measured pregnancy. FDA's guidance for this type of drug says semen changes alone aren't enough, because better semen numbers don't ensure fertility. 1
Preserving sperm is not the same as guaranteeing fertility
Conception involves two people and many factors. No clinic, and no article, can promise that enclomiphene will protect or restore your fertility.
When a fertility specialist is the better first stop
See a reproductive urologist or another fertility-focused clinician first if:
- You and your partner are trying to conceive now or within the next year.
- You've had trouble conceiving.
- A semen analysis came back abnormal.
- You have a history of testicular injury, surgery or disease.
You can always come back to enclomiphene afterward. For the broader picture, read TRT and fertility or compare TRT providers for fertility.
Enclomiphene vs TRT vs Clomid: which fits your goal?
It depends on the clinical problem and the goal. Enclomiphene and clomiphene can raise endogenous testosterone and, in the studied populations, did not suppress sperm concentration the way testosterone gel did. Testosterone therapy replaces the hormone directly, has stronger evidence for some symptoms in confirmed hypogonadism, can suppress spermatogenesis, and is a Schedule III controlled substance.
| Enclomiphene | Clomiphene (Clomid) | Testosterone therapy (TRT) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Contains testosterone? | No | No | Yes |
| How it works | Turns up your own signal | Turns up your own signal; contains both halves of the molecule | Replaces testosterone directly |
| FDA status | Not approved; compounded only 10 | FDA-approved tablets exist for women's ovulation; use in men is off-label 17 | FDA-approved products exist for diagnosed hypogonadism; many online clinics use compounded versions |
| Controlled substance? | No 18 | No | Yes — Schedule III 18 |
| LH and FSH | Go up 1 | Go up | Usually go down |
| Sperm production | Much higher than on testosterone gel in trials 3 | Maintained in pooled trials 3 | Can be suppressed 16 |
| Evidence for symptom relief | Not proven 12 | Mixed; a 2026 analysis linked TRT to bigger libido gains (low certainty) 8 | Strongest of the three for some sexual symptoms in confirmed hypogonadism 14 |
| Works if the testicles are the problem? | Evidence does not support relying on it for primary testicular failure | Evidence is limited and depends on cause | Testosterone may be used for some forms of primary hypogonadism when clinically appropriate |
| The question to ask first | "Can my testicles still respond?" | "Can my testicles respond, and can I tolerate the estrogen-like half?" | "Is testosterone replacement right for me, and am I okay pausing fertility?" |
| Published starting year-one math | $1,837 Taurus base arithmetic, not verified all-in because its terms contain a separate fee clause 2527 | About $2,121 for Hone clomiphene at published starting prices 23 | About $2,727 plus shipping for Male Excel injections at published starting prices 2930 |
Our editorial conclusion: choose by the underlying cause and your goals, not by hype. If maintaining spermatogenesis matters, enclomiphene is one clinician-discussion option because trials preserved sperm concentrations better than testosterone gel. If symptom relief is the main goal and fertility is not a near-term priority, FDA-approved testosterone products have a more established evidence and labeling pathway for diagnosed hypogonadism.
If preserving sperm production is a priority
Of the enclomiphene programs we checked, Hone Health publishes the most complete setup. It names the medication and its starting price. Its first visit is a live video appointment with a physician. Its starter test includes LH and estradiol, and follow-up labs and physician visits are included in the membership. 23 It also lists clomiphene and testosterone on the same membership, so your doctor can change course without you switching companies. Details and gaps are in the cost section.
Want to inspect the most fully documented monitoring model we found? See Hone Health's current Plus plan details → A physician decides whether any medication is appropriate; treatment is not guaranteed. This is an ordinary editorial link under the site's current affiliate-off status.
If proven symptom relief is your priority
Male Excel builds its testosterone program around how you feel, and its guarantee is written the same way. If your symptoms don't improve after 90 days on its protocol, Male Excel says it will refund your membership fees for those three months — up to $297 at its $99 monthly rate. Improvement is judged by its own assessment. You have to follow the protocol, keep your appointments and ask within 30 days after the 90 days end. Medication isn't refunded, and Male Excel can change the guarantee for new members. 3334
Know these facts before you start:
- What you'd take: daily testosterone cypionate injections under the skin, or a testosterone cream applied twice a day. Male Excel's homepage describes its testosterone as compounded in the U.S. (checked September 16, 2026), so ask whether yours is compounded or an FDA-approved product. 35
- Thyroid is built in. Its starting prices include thyroid medication. Ask whether it's optional and what lab results support it. 30
- What it costs: a $99 home test and consultation, a required $99 monthly membership, and injections from $120 a month billed in 60-day supplies. That's about $2,727 for year one, plus shipping (checked September 16–17, 2026). 2930
- Monitoring: check-ins every 60 days and lab reviews every six months, per the company. 33
- Fertility: testosterone can suppress sperm production. This isn't the route if you're trying to conceive.
- Access rules: testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance. Federal telemedicine flexibilities for controlled medicines currently run through December 31, 2026, and Male Excel notes that DEA and state rules may require an in-person exam. 1929
- Company reviews: 4.5 out of 5 from 6,447 Trustpilot reviews. One four-star reviewer on September 8, 2026, noted "the cost is a bit more than some competitors." 43

How long does enclomiphene take to work — and what happens when you stop?
In trials, testosterone rose within about two weeks, and studies followed men for 2 to 30 weeks. There's no proven timeline for feeling better, so agree on a symptom check with your clinician. After stopping, testosterone stayed above its starting level for at least a week in one trial; there's little data beyond that.
| When | What the research shows | What to plan |
|---|---|---|
| First 2 weeks | Testosterone rose in a 14-day trial. 1 | Too early to judge how you feel. |
| Weeks 2–16 | The Phase 3 trials measured testosterone, LH, FSH and sperm at 16 weeks. 14 | Your clinician sets the first lab check. Hone, for example, publishes follow-ups at 3, 6 and 12 months for non-testosterone treatments (checked September 8, 2026). 24 |
| Around 3 months | No trial proves when — or whether — symptoms improve. 1 | A symptom review: is anything actually better? |
| After stopping | Testosterone stayed above baseline for at least 7 days in the Phase 3 trials. Estradiol stayed elevated a month after stopping in one trial. 1 | Stop or change treatment only with your clinician. |
"Will I crash when I stop?"
That's one of the most common questions in enclomiphene forums, and the honest answer is that nobody has studied it well. The Phase 3 trials saw testosterone stay above its starting point for at least a week after the last dose. 1 Beyond that, the research is thin. If you're thinking about stopping, make a plan with the clinician who prescribed it.
Is enclomiphene legal and safe to get online?
In the U.S., enclomiphene is available only as a prescription compounded by a pharmacy under an FDA interim policy. It isn't FDA-approved, and FDA noted in 2022 that it has no official U.S. drug-quality standard. It isn't a controlled substance, which makes online prescribing simpler, but that says nothing about safety. Enclomiphene sold without a prescription as a "research chemical" isn't medicine.
What "compounded" means
- Compounded means a pharmacy mixes or changes ingredients to make a medicine for a patient. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, and FDA doesn't review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before they're sold. 12
- 503A refers to the federal rules for patient-specific compounding by state-licensed pharmacies. Enclomiphene sits on FDA's Category 1 list for these pharmacies, "under evaluation," as of the list updated May 14, 2026. 1011
- No quality standard. In 2022, FDA noted enclomiphene has no official U.S. Pharmacopeia monograph, the reference standard pharmacies use to check drug quality. 1
Seeing enclomiphene on an FDA list isn't the same as FDA approval. Ask every provider which pharmacy makes your medication and whether it's licensed in your state.
Why "not a controlled substance" isn't a safety rating
Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance and federal controlled-substance prescribing rules apply to it. Enclomiphene is not federally scheduled. 18 That means DEA controlled-substance telemedicine rules do not apply to enclomiphene in the same way, but prescription, clinician, pharmacy and state-law requirements still matter. Non-controlled status is not evidence that enclomiphene is safer.
Availability varies by state
Some companies don't offer enclomiphene everywhere. Superpower, for example, says its enclomiphene isn't available in New York or New Jersey (checked September 2026). 48 Always confirm that a provider offers this drug in your state before you pay.
Drug testing, sport and the military
The World Anti-Doping Agency prohibits clomiphene-type drugs (section S4.2) at all times. 20 USADA says a prescription alone doesn't make a banned substance allowed in sport. 21 The Defense Department's Operation Supplement Safety program flags enclomiphene and tells service members to check with their military healthcare provider. 22 Get that answer first.

What does enclomiphene cost, and which programs are worth a look?
Hone Health and Taurus Meds both advertise enclomiphene by name. Hone's current Plus starting-price math is about $2,169 for year one; Taurus advertises $49 to start plus $149/month, but its general terms contain a separate $17.99 recurring membership-fee clause, so $1,837 is not a verified all-in total. Maximus and Hims also advertise enclomiphene. Male Excel's Triclozene pages currently conflict over whether the SERM is enclomiphene or clomiphene.

Enclomiphene programs compared (checked September 17, 2026 unless noted)
| Program | What's prescribed | Published price | Required extras | Our year-one math | Check before paying |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hone Health | "Enclomiphene Tablet (compound)" | From $42/month | $135/month Plus membership; $45 at-home starter test | $2,169 = $45 + 12 × ($42 + $135) 23 | Whether a second morning testosterone test is required for you |
| Taurus Meds | Enclomiphene oral tablet | $149/month advertised as "all inclusive" | $49 starting lab/doctor-review offer | $1,837 advertised-base arithmetic only = $49 + 12 × $149; general terms separately describe a $17.99 recurring membership fee 252627 | Get the complete checkout total in writing before paying |
| Maximus | Enclomiphene protocol | $159.99/month, or $119.99/month billed yearly (protocol page). Its help center lists $199.99 month-to-month and $99.99 on 6- or 12-month terms (checked September 8). 3637 | At-home lab kits at $99 each, scheduled at start, 1, 3 and 12 months, unless you upload your own labs 38 | $1,596–$1,836 on a 12-month commitment, including four kits | Which price applies to your plan, and whether you can end a multi-month plan early |
| Hims | Enclomiphene-based products; current marketing also lists added supplements | $99/month on a 10-month plan paid upfront ($990), checked September 8 40 | Starter testing and other checkout charges not confirmed | $990 covers 10 months, not a full year | The exact ingredients and renewal terms |
| Male Excel Triclozene | A blend: its product page says enclomiphene; its pricing page and FAQ say clomiphene; also contains thyroid and selenomethionine 293031 | $95/month (a second card on the pricing page shows $120) | $99/month membership; $99 start; shipping | $2,427–$2,727, plus shipping | Which SERM you'd actually get, in writing |
Twelve 30-day supplies cover 360 days, not 365. Prices assume the published starting price never changes. Unknown charges aren't zero.

Hone Health: the most fully documented enclomiphene program we checked
The short version: a named medication and price, a live video visit with a Hone physician, a starter test that measures the hormones that matter most for this drug, and follow-up labs and physician visits included in the membership. 23
What we verified on Hone's help center (updated September 10, 2026):
- Medication: "Enclomiphene Tablet (compound)," starting at $42 a month, billed separately after your consultation. Price varies by dose. 23
- Membership: Plus is $135 a month and covers medication management, lab testing and follow-up consultations, with no extra charge for follow-up labs and visits. Shipping is free. 23
- Starter test: a $45 at-home kit measuring eight markers — total testosterone, free testosterone, SHBG (a protein that binds testosterone), albumin, LH, estradiol, and two liver enzymes (AST and ALT). 23
- First visit: a live video consultation with a licensed Hone physician. 23
- Room to change course: the same membership lists clomiphene ($38 a month), testosterone cypionate injections (from $28 a vial), testosterone cream and anastrozole. 23
- Cancellation: when we checked on September 8, Hone's membership FAQ said you cancel through support and access ends at the end of your billing cycle; an active membership is needed for ongoing prescriptions. 49
What to check before you pay:
- Hone lists a confirmatory second testosterone test for TRT patients only. Ask whether you'll need one before enclomiphene — the Endocrine Society calls for repeat early-morning testing. 1523
- Its starter test measures LH but not FSH, and its follow-up panel for non-testosterone treatments doesn't list hematocrit or PSA. Ask whether those will be checked. 23
- Hone describes enclomiphene as helping "while preserving fertility." The research supports less sperm suppression than testosterone — not a fertility guarantee. 323
- Confirm enclomiphene is available in your state.
Want monitoring and a live physician visit built into the care model? See Hone Health's current Plus plan details → Medication requires a physician's evaluation and is not guaranteed.
Taurus Meds: the lowest published starting price, with one fee question to settle
The short version: $149 a month, described as all-inclusive, after a $49 lab test and doctor review. That is the lowest base arithmetic among the enclomiphene programs compared here, but it is not a verified all-in total because Taurus's general terms separately describe a recurring membership fee. 2526
What we verified on Taurus's pages (September 17, 2026):
- Price: $149 a month, shown against a crossed-out $299, including a 30-day supply, a routine blood test, clinician support and 24/7 clinician access. Its FAQ says treatment plans begin at $149 a month, all inclusive, with no hidden fees. 25
- Start: $49 for labs and a doctor review, with blood drawn at LabCorp or Quest. 2526
- Follow-up: Taurus says it retests testosterone after 30 days. 25
- Who's behind it: its terms name OpenLoop Health as its partner management organization and list four partner pharmacies: RedRock Pharmacy, Health Warehouse, Precision Compounding Pharmacy and Triad Rx. That tells you who Taurus works with, not which pharmacy will fill your order. 27
What to settle first:
- The fee question. Section 28 of Taurus's terms describes a recurring membership fee of $17.99 per billing period, "unless otherwise stated at the time of purchase." We couldn't confirm whether it applies to the enclomiphene plan. If it were charged monthly, year one would be $2,052.88. Ask before you pay. 27
- Refunds: the terms say shipped medications are final sale and blood work isn't refundable, and cancellation takes effect at the end of your paid term. 27 Its separate refund policy asked for 72 hours' notice before billing when we checked on September 10. 28
- The sales page: its benefit claims (energy, muscle, libido) are sourced to testosterone research, not enclomiphene studies. Its comparison table shows "Access to FDA approved medications," but enclomiphene has no FDA approval. The table also lists anastrozole, an estrogen-lowering drug, as included — ask whether it's in your prescription and why. 25
What customers say about the company: Taurus held 4.3 out of 5 from 886 Trustpilot reviews when rechecked during this audit, with 12% one-star. The negative reviews we read focused on billing, shipping and refunds. On the positive side, customer Cory Boyles wrote on August 15, 2026, that "they call you more than once to see if you have any questions." 44 Those are individual service reports, not evidence about the medication.

Maximus and Hims: worth knowing, even though we don't earn from them
Maximus puts enclomiphene at the center of its program, but its prices differ by page. Its enclomiphene protocol page shows $159.99 month-to-month and $119.99 a month billed yearly, and its "from $99.99" headline requires adding its $50-a-month multivitamin on an annual plan. 36 Its help center listed $199.99 month-to-month and $99.99 on 6- or 12-month terms when we checked on September 8. 37 Its lab policy charges $99 per at-home kit on a schedule of start, one month, three months and one year. 38 The same protocol page says enclomiphene "does not harm your fertility," which goes further than the research. 36 See our Maximus reviews.
Hims advertises enclomiphene at $99 a month on a 10-month plan paid upfront, which is $990 at checkout. 40 On July 29, 2026, the FTC, Utah and California sued Hims & Hers over subscription, cancellation and health-data practices. Those are allegations, not findings; Hims & Hers denies them and says it will defend itself. 4142 See our Hims testosterone reviews.
Why Male Excel isn't on our enclomiphene list
Male Excel's public pages create a material identity conflict that matters here: Triclozene isn't plain enclomiphene. Its product page headline says enclomiphene citrate. Its page title, pricing page and FAQ say clomiphene citrate. Those are different drugs. It also contains thyroid medication and selenomethionine, a form of selenium. 293031 The same page says it works "without any impact to your fertility," which no study can promise. 29
If you're considering it anyway, get the exact ingredients in writing. If you're leaning toward testosterone therapy instead, Male Excel fits that route — see enclomiphene vs TRT vs Clomid.
What should you ask before you pay for enclomiphene?
The biggest gaps in the evidence are symptoms, monitoring and product quality, so your questions should cover all three. Ask how symptom change will be measured, which blood tests will be checked and when, who makes the medication, and what happens if your numbers rise but you don't feel different.
12 questions to ask any enclomiphene provider
Print these. Get the answers in writing.
- Has my low testosterone been confirmed on two early-morning tests? If not, will you repeat it before prescribing?
- Is my low testosterone a signaling problem or a testicle problem, and how do you know?
- What happens if my tests suggest my testicles are the problem?
- Is my prescription plain enclomiphene citrate, with nothing else added?
- Which pharmacy makes it, is it licensed in my state, and how does it check quality?
- Which symptoms will we track, how, and when is my first check?
- Which blood tests will you order and when — including LH, FSH, estradiol, hematocrit and PSA?
- What happens if my numbers rise but I don't feel different?
- What should I do if I notice vision changes, leg swelling or chest symptoms?
- What will I pay over 12 months, including membership, labs and shipping — and what's refundable?
- How do I cancel, what's the deadline before my next charge, and how do I get my medical records?
- If we want children in the next year, should I see a reproductive urologist first?
The two that matter most: #6 and #8. Most disappointed enclomiphene reviews come from that gap.

How we reviewed enclomiphene
We didn't take enclomiphene or enroll with any provider. We read FDA and European regulatory records, published trials and reviews, provider websites and help centers, and public review platforms, and we kept verified facts, company statements, customer reports and our own conclusions separate.
What we actually verified
Last verified: September 17, 2026. A few provider details carried from our September 8–16 checks are dated where they appear.
Sources we checked: FDA's June 2022 compounding committee review and meeting minutes; FDA's compounding category list updated May 14, 2026; the European Medicines Agency's EnCyzix record; the 2025 Hohl meta-analysis; the 2024 Saffati study (full text); the 2026 clomiphene-versus-TRT meta-analysis; the PubMed record for the 2026 British position statement; Hone Health's help center; Taurus Meds' enclomiphene page and terms; Male Excel's Triclozene, reviews, Excel Advantage and guarantee pages; Maximus's protocol and study pages; and Trustpilot profiles for Male Excel and Taurus.
Verified facts: the regulatory history, trial results and side-effect counts above; the prices, terms and inclusions publicly stated on the cited provider pages; and the dated review-platform snapshots. Provider delivery of those services was not independently tested.
Provider-stated (not independently confirmed): what memberships include, clinician access, shipping times, pharmacy relationships for an individual order, guarantee administration and company-run study results.
Customer-experience signals: forum themes and Trustpilot comments. These show patterns worth asking about. They don't prove how well the drug works or what's typical.
Editorial conclusions: "best fit" and "choose by goal" judgments, based on the verified facts above.
What we couldn't confirm:
- Whether Taurus's $17.99 per-billing-period fee applies to its enclomiphene plan; its product page says all-inclusive while its general terms contain the fee clause
- Which drug Male Excel's Triclozene contains today
- Whether Hone requires a second testosterone test before enclomiphene
- What Taurus's "1.5k reviews" badge counts
- Which pharmacy fills any individual patient's prescription
- Which states each company serves for enclomiphene specifically
We did not enroll, take medication, complete a checkout, contact support or test cancellation.
How we label information: verified fact, provider-stated fact, customer-experience signal and editorial conclusion — never blended. Our full method is How We Review TRT Providers. Enclomiphene reviews: frequently asked questions
Here are short answers to the questions men ask most after reading enclomiphene reviews. Each answer stands alone; follow the section links for the full evidence.
Is enclomiphene worth it?
It's worth discussing if low testosterone has been confirmed, a clinician thinks the cause is a signaling problem, and keeping sperm production going matters to you. It's less compelling if symptom relief is your main goal and fertility isn't a concern; testosterone therapy has stronger evidence there.
Does enclomiphene really work?
It reliably raises testosterone, LH and FSH in men whose low testosterone comes from a weak brain signal. FDA and Europe's regulator found no proof that it improves symptoms. 123
What are the downsides of enclomiphene?
It isn't FDA-approved, long-term safety is unknown, symptom results are mixed, and side effects can include headache, hot flushes, nausea and muscle spasms. Europe's regulator also raised a blood-clot concern. 12
Does enclomiphene increase libido?
Results are mixed. Some trials found better sexual-desire scores and others didn't. 3 A 2026 analysis of the related drug clomiphene found testosterone therapy did more for sex drive, though the evidence was low-certainty. 8
Can enclomiphene cause vision problems?
Blurred vision led some trial participants to stop, and Europe's regulator asked for eye monitoring. 1 Report any new vision change promptly, and treat sudden vision loss as an emergency.
Does enclomiphene raise estrogen?
On average, yes. Pooled mixed clomiphene/enclomiphene evidence found estradiol about 34 pg/mL higher than placebo; this is not an enclomiphene-only estimate. 3 One clinic study found estradiol fell when men switched from clomiphene to enclomiphene. 7
Is enclomiphene better than TRT?
In the studied populations, enclomiphene preserved sperm concentration better than testosterone gel, but it is not better proven for symptoms. Testosterone therapy is a controlled substance and can suppress spermatogenesis. 31618
Is enclomiphene the same as Clomid?
No. Clomid contains clomiphene, a mix of enclomiphene and zuclomiphene. Clomid's FDA approval for women's ovulation doesn't cover enclomiphene. 17
Is enclomiphene better than clomiphene?
The evidence can't support a blanket "better." One clinic study recorded fewer side effects after men switched to enclomiphene, but it had real limits. 7
How long does enclomiphene take to work?
Testosterone rose within about two weeks in trials. 1 There's no proven timeline for symptoms.
What happens when you stop taking enclomiphene?
In the Phase 3 trials, testosterone stayed above its starting level for at least a week after stopping. 1 Beyond that, data is limited, so stop only with your clinician's guidance.
Is enclomiphene FDA-approved?
No, not for any condition. It's compounded under an FDA interim policy and remains "under evaluation" on FDA's Category 1 list as of May 14, 2026. 1011
Is enclomiphene safe long term?
Nobody knows. Randomized trials lasted 30 weeks or less. 3
Will enclomiphene work if my testicles are the problem?
It's unlikely. The pooled trials excluded those men. A urologist or endocrinologist should look for the cause first. 3
Will enclomiphene preserve my fertility?
Trials found sperm concentration much higher than on testosterone gel, but no trial measured pregnancy. No one can promise it will protect your fertility. 13
Are Reddit enclomiphene reviews reliable?
They're useful for building your questions, not for predicting your result. Posts are self-selected, and some describe non-prescription products.
Will enclomiphene cause problems with drug testing?
It can in sport. The World Anti-Doping Agency prohibits clomiphene-type drugs at all times, and USADA says a prescription alone isn't permission. Service members should ask their military healthcare provider. 202122
How much does enclomiphene cost?
Hone's current Plus starting-price math is about $2,169 for year one. Taurus's public offer gives $1,837 base arithmetic, but its general terms separately contain a $17.99 recurring-fee clause, so that is not a verified all-in total. Maximus publishes conflicting price pages that can model to roughly $1,596–$1,836 with four $99 lab kits, depending on which published subscription price applies. See our enclomiphene cost guide.
Can I get enclomiphene without a prescription?
A legitimate U.S. enclomiphene prescription requires clinician involvement and pharmacy dispensing. Products sold as "research chemicals" are not prescription medicines and should not be treated as equivalent to a pharmacy-dispensed compounded drug.
