Ageless Men's Health Alternatives: Costs, States, and How to Plan Your Switch

The best Ageless Men's Health alternatives depend on why you're leaving. Tired of weekly clinic trips and paying cash? Compare Male Excel's home treatment if compounded care fits your medical needs. Want clear lab steps? Hone Plus's 12-month subtotal starts near $1,710 before medication. Have good insurance or fertility plans? Start with an in-network doctor or reproductive urologist.

That answer shifts in a few cases. Male Excel doesn't serve Idaho or Mississippi, where Ageless has six clinics. Hone's TRT plans don't serve New Jersey or Pennsylvania. And if your insurance covers Ageless at a low copay, staying may be the cheaper move.

One more thing to check before switching: what happens to the hCG and estrogen medicine Ageless may have you on. We found no hCG treatment offer in the three partners' medication menus we reviewed. We show you what each provider lists, and what you'll need to confirm, further down.

This page is for you if: you're an Ageless patient, or nearly one, and you want home treatment, a published price, insurance-based care, or a better fit for fertility.

Not for you if: low testosterone hasn't been confirmed yet. Start with how low testosterone is diagnosed instead. Happy at Ageless with coverage that works? You can stop reading here.

Scope: U.S. adult men comparing care for male hypogonadism, the medical condition of testosterone deficiency.

Ageless Men's Health is a chain of in-person clinics. It is not AgelessRx, which is a separate online company, and it is not "Ageless Male," which is an over-the-counter supplement.

TRT Provider Guide is the independent decision resource for testosterone replacement therapy — helping U.S. adults understand how low testosterone is evaluated, compare online and local care models and providers, and choose the next step that fits their health needs, fertility plans, budget, state, and care preferences, with every material claim verified and dated.

How we make money: TRT Provider Guide has commercial relationships with Male Excel, Hone Health, and Taurus Meds and may earn commissions through paid referrals. We also send you to options that don't pay us when they fit better, and on this page they often do. Compensation doesn't decide our conclusions. Read our affiliate disclosure.

Which Ageless Men's Health alternative fits your reason for leaving?

You may be comparing Ageless for one of five reasons: the weekly weekday visit, an unclear self-pay price, an insurance change, wanting to keep hCG, or planning to have kids. Each reason points to a different care route. Find your row first, then read only the sections that apply to you.

Ageless Men's Health alternatives table 2: Which Ageless Men's Health alternative fits your reason for leaving?
Your main reason Where to look first Why Skip it if…
Weekly clinic trips don't fit, and you pay cash Male Excel Treatment ships home. No contract. Customer support is open 7 days a week. Covers 19 of Ageless's 21 states. You need an FDA-approved product, live in Idaho or Mississippi, or need an hCG plan it has not confirmed
You want published test fees and clear lab steps Hone Health (Plus) $45 starter test. A second confirming test before treatment. Labs at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. You live in NJ, NY, or PA, or you need insurance
You want to compare a $49 test and consult offer Taurus Meds $49 blood test and video consult; confirm when subscription billing starts You need refund terms that don't contradict each other
You want a published treatment rate and can manage refill requests TRT Nation $99.99/month treatment rate; labs extra; 2.5-month minimum purchase You need a specific hCG product that the provider has not confirmed
You want a local clinic but fewer visits Low T Center / SynergenX In-clinic labs, then pre-filled syringes you use at home No clinic near you
Your PPO or Medicare covers you well In-network urologist, endocrinologist, or primary care Insurance, plus FDA-approved generic testosterone at a pharmacy Long waits are a dealbreaker
You're on hCG, or you want kids in the next few years Urologist or reproductive urologist Fertility testing and FDA-licensed hCG when appropriate —

Which row is you? Pick one. Then read the sections that apply to you.

The right TRT provider is not the same for every person — it depends on whether low testosterone has been properly evaluated, your symptoms and health history, your fertility plans, your state, your insurance or cash-pay preference, your treatment-format preference, your budget, and whether online or in-person care is the better starting point. Some situations belong with primary care, urology, endocrinology, reproductive urology, or urgent or emergency care when the symptoms warrant it. Because a general answer cannot resolve those for you, use TRT Provider Guide's Find My TRT Path tool to map your situation to the right care route and the questions to ask before you pay.

Find My TRT Path is educational and non-diagnostic. It doesn't confirm low testosterone, decide eligibility, or guarantee a prescription.

Should you stay at Ageless instead?

Staying makes sense if your PPO covers Ageless at a low copay, a clinic sits on your daily route, and you like having staff give the shot. Ageless also says it offers telemedicine in the states where it operates, except New Jersey and Mississippi. Ask about that before you leave.

We'd rather tell you this now than lose your trust later. Ageless has real strengths:

  • It takes insurance. Ageless says it accepts most PPO plans. Its FAQ says insured patients usually pay their copay plus any unmet deductible. Male Excel and Hone do not take insurance; Taurus presents its current offer as cash pay.
  • Someone else gives the shot. Ageless uses testosterone cypionate injections every 7 days, given in the clinic. Some people want exactly that.
  • It's local. We counted 84 clinic listings in 21 states on Ageless's locator on October 7, 2026.

Where Ageless gets harder

  • The schedule. Ageless posts Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. hours. A weekly shot works out to about 52 weekday trips a year.
  • The price. We found no national self-pay dollar amount on Ageless's site. Its FAQ says the self-pay rate covers visits, exams, lab tests, and testosterone, but doesn't say how much.
  • The 4-shot question. One Ageless ad page says its self-pay plan includes up to 4 injections a month. Weekly shots add up to 52 a year, but 4 a month is only 48. That's a fair question to ask, not proof of an extra fee. Our Ageless cost guide has the full quote script.

Do you like Ageless and just hate the drive? Ask your clinic about its telemedicine option. Ask whether that could mean fewer trips with the same team. Want the full picture first? Read our Ageless Men's Health review.

How much do Ageless Men's Health alternatives really cost in year one?

Using published starting prices, TRT Nation's annualized treatment rate plus three lab panels is about $1,587. Hone Plus comes to $1,710–$1,715 before medication, Taurus to about $1,837 before unresolved charges, and Male Excel to about $2,727 plus shipping for its starting bundle. These are different cost models, and Ageless doesn't publish a self-pay price, so written quotes are the only fair comparison.

We built this table from each company's published starting prices. These are 12-month planning models or listed price components, not complete first-year cash quotes; required charges and billing schedules still need confirmation.

Option Published price components Our 12-month math Planning subtotal What's still missing
Ageless (self-pay) Not published — Ask for a written quote Price, 5th-shot policy, extras
Ageless (PPO) Copay + unmet deductible Example: $40 copay × 52 visits = $2,080 Depends on your plan Your plan's real cost-share

Hone Health Plus $45 test + $45–$50 at-lab confirm test + $135/month $45 + $45–$50 + (12 × $135) $1,710–$1,715 + medication $80 home confirmation makes the subtotal $1,745; the help page lists testosterone from $28 a vial, not a complete monthly prescription quote
Hone Health Premium $65 test + $25 at-lab TRT confirm test + $155/month $65 + $25 + (12 × $155) $1,950 + medication Medication and any patient-specific extras; this model includes the published TRT confirmation fee
Taurus Meds $49 test + advertised $149/month treatment $49 + (12 × $149) $1,837 before unresolved charges Terms list $17.99 per billing period unless your offer says otherwise; if additional and monthly, the model would be $2,052.88. Confirm required repeat labs, shipping, and the payment term
TRT Nation $99.99/month treatment rate + $129 per lab panel (12 × $99.99) + (3 × $129) $1,586.88 annualized rate plus three panels 2.5-month purchase blocks; three-panel assumption; timing, accepted outside labs, and extra testing need confirmation
Low T Center / SynergenX Low T Center lists $25 test, $135 confirm + 1st shot, $105.50/month, $135 per follow-up Fill and follow-up schedule required Ask for a written quote Visits include an injection; confirm the visit count and whether that replaces a mailed dose before adding charges
In-network doctor Copays + pharmacy Depends on your plan Depends on your plan Deductible, formulary, prior authorization

Prices checked October 7, 2026, on each company's own pricing, help, and FAQ pages. Shipping and tax extra where charged. Male Excel's medication comes in 60-day supplies billed every other month. TRT Nation's example assumes three purchased panels; its FAQ pages differ on timing. Low T Center's annual fill and visit counts need confirmation.

Low T Center also advertises a free first consultation and testosterone test at participating locations through December 31, 2026. Confirm your clinic's current offer before paying the listed $25 test fee. Offer details.

For a complete first-year quote, ask for the cash due in the first 365 days: intake, required confirmation and follow-up tests, membership, visits, medication, supplies, shipping, and tax. Ask for each charge date and how much medication remains at year-end. A monthly rate, a 60-day supply, and twelve treatment months can produce different bills.

What this table really tells you

The cheapest row isn't automatically the best deal. TRT Nation advertises consultations and care-team messaging, but its labs cost extra and you request refills yourself. Ask how medical questions and follow-up visits are handled. TRT Nation FAQ · Refill policy.

Male Excel's published package includes medication; Hone's membership price doesn't. Male Excel says its $99 membership includes provider visits by video, messaging, a check-in every 60 days, and full blood panels every 6 months. Hone's $135 Plus membership includes follow-up labs and consults. The bigger difference is format. Male Excel describes daily injections or twice-daily cream. Hone offers testosterone cypionate vials, plus cream or troches, on a schedule your clinician sets.

Ageless could still win on price. With a low PPO copay, Ageless may cost less than any cash option. Get your plan's real cost-share before you assume otherwise.

Male Excel: an at-home option with ongoing provider access

Male Excel offers treatment shipped to your home, a $99 monthly membership, and no long-term contract. Its starting injection/thyroid bundle is $120 a month in 60-day supplies, which puts the 12-month model near $2,727 plus shipping. It doesn't take insurance, doesn't serve Idaho or Mississippi, and had no hCG treatment offer in the menus we reviewed.

If the drive is your problem, and a clinician finds a medical reason to use compounded treatment, this is one place to look first.

The one trade-off you should know up front

Male Excel provides online care, and you give your injections at home. If having a professional handle the injection matters most to you, staying at Ageless or trying Low T Center is a better fit.

Male Excel says it can ship a 60-day supply to your door, keep one provider on your case, and offer customer support seven days a week. Its posted support hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern, every day. That's the trade: 52 weekday trips a year, swapped for a box on your porch and customer support you can contact on a Sunday.

What changes when you move from Ageless to Male Excel

How often Every 7 days Daily injection or twice-daily cream
Testosterone type Cypionate; Ageless says some treatments may be compounded Compounded testosterone (not FDA-approved)
Estrogen medicine Described on Ageless's treatment page Male Excel says it uses no estrogen blockers
Thyroid medicine Not described Included in its starter packages "when clinically appropriate"
hCG Described on Ageless's treatment page Not listed
Insurance Most PPO plans No; FSA, HSA, or HRA reimbursement may be possible
Check-ins In clinic Every 60 days, plus full panels every 6 months

Before you start, know these four things

  1. Ask why thyroid medicine is in the bundle. Thyroid medicine treats an underactive thyroid. It is not testosterone replacement. Ask whether you need it and what the price is without it.
  2. Insist on confirmed testing if you're new to TRT. Male Excel says its providers can sometimes prescribe based on symptoms and history before lab results come back. Medical guidelines call for symptoms or signs plus two low early-morning testosterone tests before a new diagnosis (more on that below). If you're already on treatment at Ageless, a transfer review is a different situation. Bring your records.
  3. Your price can rise with your dose. Male Excel says any dose change changes your cost.
  4. An in-person exam may be required. Male Excel says this depends on DEA and state law.

Male Excel says it has treated more than 100,000 patients and offers a 90-day guarantee. Eligible new members who follow the plan for 90 continuous days without symptom improvement can request three months of membership fees back within 30 days afterward, subject to documented adherence and provider review. That covers membership fees only, not medication or tests. Read the guarantee terms.

One patient quoted on Male Excel's pricing page, identified as Dan, called it "more cost effective than many of the clinics around me." (Selected and published by Male Excel. One person's view.)

Hone Health: published fees and clear testing steps

Hone Health's Plus plan starts with a $45 at-home blood test and a live video visit, then a $45–$50 confirming lab test before testosterone is prescribed, then $135 a month. That's a $1,710–$1,715 12-month subtotal before medication with at-lab confirmation. Its help page lists testosterone cypionate from $28 a vial, and Hone labels its listed injection product compounded and not FDA-approved.

Hone is a fit for someone who wants to see the testing plan in writing before paying for months of care.

Why Hone's testing stands out

Hone publishes its whole lab plan:

  • Starter test ($45, at home): total testosterone, free testosterone, SHBG, LH, estradiol, albumin, and two liver markers.
  • Confirming test before TRT ($45 at a lab, or $80 at home): a second total testosterone, plus prolactin, PSA, and hematocrit. Hone's own lab-schedule page lists the at-lab price as $50, so confirm which applies.
  • Follow-up labs included: at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months, then at 18 months. Markers vary, and your clinician may change the schedule. Published lab schedule.

A few terms, in plain words:

  • Total testosterone is all the testosterone in your blood.
  • SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin) is a protein that holds testosterone, so less of it is free to use.
  • LH (luteinizing hormone) is the brain's signal telling the testicles to make testosterone.
  • Hematocrit is the share of your blood made of red blood cells. Testosterone can raise it.
  • PSA (prostate-specific antigen) is a protein made by the prostate; a PSA blood test measures its level.

What to know before choosing Hone

  • No insurance. Membership and medication are billed separately.
  • State matters. Hone Plus isn't offered in New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania. Hone Premium ($155/month) does serve New York.
  • No hCG listed. Hone's men's menu lists anastrozole (an estrogen-lowering pill, $22/month), clomiphene, and enclomiphene, but no hCG treatment offer. Clomiphene and anastrozole are not testosterone; use of approved products for male low testosterone is off-label, meaning outside their approved use. Hone's listed clomiphene and enclomiphene preparations are compounded and not FDA-approved. Clomiphene disclosure · Enclomiphene disclosure.
  • No brand guarantee. Hone says its pharmacy network can't promise a manufacturer. If you need a specific product, Hone says it can send your prescription to a local pharmacy you choose. Membership continues, and that pharmacy bills for medication separately; a local fill does not guarantee insurance coverage.
  • Two separate cancellations. Canceling your membership doesn't cancel a pending prescription shipment. Hone says you have to cancel both. Processed or shipped medication cannot be canceled or refunded. Cancellation policy.

Taurus Meds: a low-cost start, if you get the terms in writing

Taurus advertises a $49 blood test and video consult, then $149 a month if a clinician prescribes treatment, with no membership fee. Its separate terms describe a $17.99 recurring fee per billing period unless your purchase says otherwise. Its refund rules also conflict, so get your exact offer's terms in writing before you pay.

Taurus is worth a look if you want your numbers first, but confirm when subscription billing starts.

What we found on Taurus's own pages

  • Labs: LabCorp or Quest. If you live more than 50 miles from one, Taurus says it sends a free at-home kit.
  • Clinicians: Taurus works through OpenLoop Health's clinician network.
  • Two refund promises that don't match: The $49 offer page promises a full refund minus lab and pharmacy fees if you don't see results within 90 days. Taurus's subscription refund policy generally excludes cancellation refunds except for medical disqualification.
  • Cancellation notice: Taurus asks for at least 72 hours' notice before your billing date.
  • Medication labels that don't match: Taurus's homepage says FDA-approved medications. Its offer page describes testosterone compounded in the U.S., and its terms list compounding pharmacies. Ask which product you'd actually get.
  • No hCG treatment offer found in the menus we reviewed.
  • Get the full lab and billing plan. We could not establish whether the $49 includes a required second early-morning test or whether the $149 plan includes every follow-up panel. Its refund policy says the first subscription month is charged when intake is completed, so confirm the charge sequence for your offer. Offer · Billing and refunds.

TRT Nation and Low T Center: two other options worth comparing

TRT Nation advertises online care with a $99.99 monthly treatment rate, lab panels at $129 each, and a 2.5-month minimum purchase. Low T Center is a local clinic chain that offers home self-injection after an initial in-clinic dose. Both fit specific Ageless leavers well.

TRT Nation: published treatment price, separate lab costs

  • Price: $99.99 a month, sold with a 2.5-month minimum purchase. California pricing may differ.
  • Labs: $129 per TRT panel. Its main FAQ says outside labs typically within 120 days may be accepted, while another FAQ says six months. Follow-up labs start at 10 weeks; the two FAQs differ on the next six-month interval, then list yearly testing. Confirm your schedule.
  • Medication: sourced from U.S. compounding pharmacies, per its FAQ.
  • hCG: TRT Nation lists a TRT + hCG bundle at $180 a month, with a 2.5-month minimum purchase. Ask which hCG product it uses (see the hCG section below).
  • States: eligibility is confirmed at intake. Its homepage excludes Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Missouri, North Dakota, and Hawaii; another FAQ omits North Dakota from that exclusion list.
  • Support: weekdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern.
  • Age: its FAQ says generally 24 and older.

Sources: Treatment and hCG offers, main FAQ, alternate FAQ, and current homepage exclusions. These are provider statements; your intake still needs to confirm access and the care plan.

Best for: someone comparing a published treatment rate who can manage separately priced labs and request refills. See our TRT Nation review.

Low T Center / SynergenX: local clinic, fewer trips

  • How it works: a $25 first test, then a $135 confirmation test with your first injection in the clinic. After that, you get four pre-filled syringes a month to use at home. A telehealth visit comes before home shipment. A separate offer lists a free first consultation and test at participating locations through December 31, 2026; confirm with your clinic. Current offer.
  • Monthly medication: typically $105.50.
  • Follow-ups: Low T Center lists $135 follow-ups, initially about every 5 weeks, then about every 3 months once stable. SynergenX's current home-program page describes clinic labs approximately every 3 months.
  • Insurance: Low T Center says many plans may help cover visits, labs, and medication. But its SynergenX self-injection program says it is self-pay only.
  • Brand note: Low T Center has announced a transition to the SynergenX name. SynergenX also publishes a self-injection program with an app; confirm which process your clinic uses.

Best for: someone who likes the clinic model but wants far fewer trips than Ageless's weekly schedule. Check its locator for a clinic near you. See our Low T Center review.

Sources: Low T Center costs, SynergenX's home program, and the name-change announcement. The home program is explicitly self-pay; clinic insurance acceptance does not change that term.

Can you use insurance instead? The in-network route most comparisons skip

Yes: an in-network primary care doctor, urologist, or endocrinologist can evaluate you, order labs, and prescribe an FDA-approved product when treatment is appropriate. Male Excel and Hone do not take insurance, Taurus presents its offer as cash pay, and we did not verify an insurance-billing pathway for TRT Nation. For people with good coverage or Medicare, the in-network route is worth pricing before a cash program.

This route is the right first stop if:

  • Your PPO or Medicare covers specialist visits and labs well.
  • You want an FDA-approved product, not a compounded one.
  • You're on hCG and want it managed with a licensed product.
  • Your symptoms haven't been fully worked up yet.

The trade-offs are real. You may face waits, prior authorization, and fewer check-ins than a cash program offers.

Before you book, call your insurer and ask four questions:

  1. Is this doctor in my network?
  2. What will I pay per visit?
  3. Is testosterone on my formulary, and does it need prior authorization?
  4. How much of my deductible is left?

Also verify the laboratory and pharmacy network, the exact drug on your formulary, and any prior-authorization paperwork. A formulary is your plan's covered-drug list. Coverage basics.

HSA or FSA money may cover eligible medical expenses, but not necessarily every program fee. Male Excel says you may be able to use FSA, HSA, or HRA funds. Confirm with your plan administrator. Account rules.

What happens to your hCG and estrogen medicine if you leave Ageless?

Ageless's treatment page describes using hCG and an unnamed estrogen-control medicine alongside testosterone. We found no hCG treatment offer in the reviewed Male Excel, Hone, and Taurus menus, and Male Excel says it uses no estrogen blockers. If keeping hCG matters to you, especially for fertility, plan your switch with a urologist instead of assuming an online program will continue it.

This is the part that catches people off guard. Here's the honest carry-over picture:

Why hCG is harder to move than testosterone

hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is a hormone that acts like LH. It stimulates testosterone production in the testicles. Since March 23, 2020, the FDA has regulated hCG as a biological product. FDA has said biologics like hCG aren't eligible for the normal pharmacy-compounding exemptions. FDA-licensed brands exist, such as Pregnyl and Novarel. For male hypogonadism, their approved use covers selected cases caused by deficient pituitary signaling. That does not approve every use of hCG alongside TRT for fertility. FDA compounding notice · Pregnyl label · Novarel label.

So if a provider offers you hCG, ask one question: "What is the exact product name, and is it FDA-licensed?"

Estrogen medicine isn't for everyone

Medicines like anastrozole lower estrogen. Some men on TRT take them. Many don't. The right call depends on your labs and symptoms, so the decision belongs with your new clinician.

Don't stop or change hCG, anastrozole, or testosterone on your own. Tell your new provider exactly what you take and when your last dose was.

How do you plan a switch from Ageless?

Line up your new provider before your last Ageless shot, get your lab results and medication list in writing, and tell the new clinician your last dose date and every medicine you take. The new provider will make its own decision and may require new labs. Don't stop or change any medicine on your own.

Here's how to plan the transfer:

  1. Pick your route. Use the table at the top of this page.
  2. Request your records before you leave. Ask Ageless for your lab results, visit notes, and medication list. You generally have a right to copies under federal health privacy law.
  3. Write down exact product names. Copy them from your records. Don't guess.
  4. Start the new intake while you're still covered. Do the new provider's labs and visit before your current supply runs out.
  5. Ask who covers you in between. Get the expected start date and first shipment date in writing.
  6. Cancel in writing. Ask Ageless about any prepaid visits or remaining charges. If you're leaving an online program, confirm how to stop both membership charges and pending prescription shipments.
  7. Keep every answer, with dates.

What could still be billed after you cancel?

Provider Published refill or cancellation rule Settle before leaving
Ageless We did not establish a treatment cancellation deadline or prepaid-visit refund rule from the reviewed pages Notice, remaining charges, prepaid visits, and record delivery
Male Excel Its FAQ gives a 48-hour window after the refill reminder to act before billing and shipment; prescription sales are final Confirm that both membership and pending orders are stopped; the separate guarantee covers qualifying membership fees only
Hone Membership and prescription cancellation are separate; no partial-month membership refund; processed or shipped medicine cannot be canceled or refunded Cancel both parts and keep confirmation
Taurus At least 72 hours before billing; late notice can trigger another cycle; lab-order and shipped-medication charges have refund limits Which offer controls the conflicting refund terms and when cancellation takes effect
TRT Nation Refills are requested by the patient, not automatic; the posted cancellation policy says no refunds or returns The last order you authorized and any remaining records or charges
Low T Center / SynergenX The reviewed cost and home-program pages do not establish a complete cancellation or refund process Your clinic's notice deadline, pending shipment, prepaid charges, and record access

To your new provider: "I'm currently on testosterone through Ageless Men's Health. Which of my records and labs can you use? What new tests do you need, and what do they cost? When would my first shipment arrive? Is the testosterone FDA-approved or compounded, and which pharmacy fills it? If I take hCG or an estrogen medicine, will you continue it, change it, or stop it, and why? What are all my first-year charges, and how do I cancel?"

To Ageless: "Please send copies of my lab results, visit notes, and medication history. What notice do you need to stop future charges, and do I owe anything for prepaid or missed visits?"

Before you switch: testing, fertility, and who should see a doctor first

For a new diagnosis, a provider should confirm low testosterone with symptoms plus two low early-morning tests, not a single number. Testosterone can lower sperm production, so raise fertility plans before anything else. Some health conditions need clinician or specialist review before choosing a TRT program.

What a real diagnosis needs

The American Urological Association says to diagnose low testosterone only after two total testosterone tests on separate early mornings, along with symptoms or signs. It calls below 300 ng/dL a reasonable cutoff and recommends checking LH in men with low results. The Endocrine Society says to confirm a low result by repeating a fasting morning test. AUA guideline announcement · AUA current guideline inventory · Endocrine Society's July 2026 statement.

No single number decides it. Neither does a quiz.

If you're coming from Ageless already on treatment, your new clinician may review your past records instead of starting over. Ask.

Before treatment, ask about evaluation of the cause, baseline hematocrit, and prostate assessment when appropriate. During treatment, agree on follow-up for symptoms, side effects, testosterone, hematocrit, and blood pressure. Endocrine Society monitoring guidance · Current testosterone labeling.

Fertility comes first

Testosterone from outside your body can shut down the signals that make sperm. The Endocrine Society recommends against starting testosterone in men planning a pregnancy in the near term. The AUA/ASRM's 2021 published summary says clinicians may use hCG, aromatase inhibitors, or clomiphene-type drugs in infertile men with low testosterone. These are not the same as TRT, and none of them guarantees anything. That permission is conditional and based on limited evidence. AUA/ASRM summary · Endocrine Society fertility guidance.

If kids are in your plans for the next few years, see a urologist or reproductive urologist first.

Get clinician or specialist review first if you have:

  • A history of prostate or breast cancer
  • An elevated PSA or an unevaluated prostate lump
  • A high red blood cell percentage (hematocrit)
  • Untreated severe sleep apnea
  • Severe urinary symptoms
  • A heart attack or stroke in the last 6 months
  • Uncontrolled heart failure or a tendency to form blood clots (thrombophilia)
  • Labs that are very unusual, or signs of a pituitary problem

These conditions need clinician review and may make testosterone unsuitable. The FDA also now requires a class-wide warning that testosterone products can raise blood pressure. Endocrine Society recommendations · FDA blood-pressure labeling action.

Chest pain or trouble breathing? Call 911 or get emergency care. New one-sided leg swelling needs prompt medical assessment; if it occurs with chest pain or trouble breathing, call 911. Blood-clot warning signs.

Yes, when the prescriber and the visit meet federal and state rules. Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance, and the DEA's current temporary rule lets qualifying DEA-registered clinicians prescribe it over live video without a prior in-person exam through December 31, 2026. Some states add their own rules, and a questionnaire alone isn't enough.

Sources: DEA scheduling, the current federal rule, DEA's explanation, and HHS state-licensing guidance.

Schedule III means testosterone is a federally controlled drug. It always needs a valid prescription.

What December 31, 2026 means: that's when the current federal exception ends unless it's extended or replaced. It is not a ban on online TRT. Ask any provider what its plan is for 2027. That's a planning question, not a reason to rush.

Is the testosterone the same at every provider?

No: FDA-approved testosterone products are reviewed by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, and quality. Compounded testosterone is made by a compounding pharmacy and is not FDA-approved. Hone's listed injection, cream, and troche and Male Excel's testosterone are compounded, while Ageless says some of its treatments may be.

The name "testosterone cypionate" alone doesn't tell you which kind you're getting. Ask every provider:

  • What is the exact product?
  • Is it FDA-approved or compounded?
  • Which pharmacy fills it?

Compounded treatment may meet a medical need an approved product cannot meet, such as an ingredient allergy or an unavailable dosage form. Convenience alone does not establish that need. Ask the clinician why the exact preparation fits you. FDA compounding guidance.

Want an FDA-approved product specifically? Ask an in-network doctor about the exact product and a pharmacy that can fill it. Hone also says it can send a prescription to a local pharmacy of your choice when you need a specific brand.

What we actually verified

We checked the available public pricing, terms, testing, and state information for every named company on October 7, 2026. We counted Ageless's clinic listings ourselves and did all the year-one math in the open. We didn't enroll as patients, test customer support, or audit any clinician or pharmacy license.

Published by providers; checked October 7, 2026:

  • Ageless: 84 clinic listings in 21 states; cypionate every 7 days; most PPO plans accepted; first-visit total testosterone and PSA; Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–6 p.m. hours; hCG and an estrogen medicine described; some treatments may be compounded; partner pharmacies Strive and Anazao; no telemedicine in NJ or MS; no self-pay dollar price published.
  • Male Excel: $99 starter package, $99/month membership, $120/month starting injection/thyroid bundle in 60-day supplies, billed every other month; 11 excluded states; daily injections or twice-daily cream; no estrogen blockers; prescribing sometimes before labs arrive; possible in-person exam; 90-day membership-fee guarantee; support 7 a.m.–9 p.m. ET daily.
  • Hone Health: Plus $45 + $45–$50 (or $80 at home) + $135/month; Premium $65 + $25 TRT confirmation + $155/month; plan-specific state lists; lab schedule; its listed compounded testosterone products; separate membership and prescription cancellation.
  • Taurus Meds: $49 offer and $149/month; $17.99 per-billing-period fee in terms; conflicting refund terms; 72-hour cancellation notice; partner pharmacies.
  • TRT Nation: $99.99/month treatment rate, 2.5-month minimum, $129 labs, compounding-pharmacy sourcing, TRT + hCG bundle, and conflicting North Dakota exclusions.

Checked against primary sources: the AUA's issued diagnostic recommendations and current guideline inventory; the Endocrine Society's guideline and July 2026 statement; the ASRM-published 2021 joint fertility summary; FDA's blood-pressure labeling action, compounding guidance, and hCG licensing records; current drug labels; DEA scheduling and the telemedicine extension through December 31, 2026.

Ageless Men's Health alternatives: frequently asked questions

Ageless Men's Health alternatives differ in cost, state access, testing, and how they handle your current medicines. A listed state or starting price does not guarantee treatment or a complete quote.

What is the best alternative to Ageless Men's Health?

It depends on why you're leaving. Male Excel can fit cash-pay men who want home treatment when compounded care is medically appropriate. Hone fits people who want published lab fees and clear testing steps. An in-network urologist fits people with good insurance, hCG needs, or fertility plans.

Is there an online version of Ageless Men's Health?

Ageless says it offers telemedicine in the states where it operates, except New Jersey and Mississippi. Online-only alternatives include Male Excel, Hone Health, Taurus Meds, and TRT Nation.

Is online TRT cheaper than Ageless?

Ageless doesn't publish a national self-pay price, so you need a written quote to compare. The models above compare published rates and package components, with different inclusions and unresolved charges. With a low PPO copay, Ageless may still cost less.

Do online TRT companies take insurance like Ageless does?

Male Excel and Hone do not take insurance, and Taurus presents its current offer as cash pay. We did not verify an insurance-billing pathway for TRT Nation. Male Excel says FSA, HSA, or HRA funds may be usable; eligible expenses depend on your account rules. For insurance, compare an in-network doctor or a clinic that confirms your plan.

Can I keep my hCG if I switch from Ageless?

Not guaranteed. We found no hCG treatment offer in the reviewed Male Excel, Hone, and Taurus menus. TRT Nation lists a TRT + hCG bundle, but we did not establish its exact hCG product. Since 2020, the FDA has regulated hCG as a biologic, so ask any provider for the exact, FDA-licensed product name. If hCG is for fertility, see a urologist first.

Will I have a gap in treatment if I switch?

A gap is still possible, even if you plan ahead. Start the new provider's intake and labs before your last Ageless dose, bring your records, and get the expected first shipment date in writing.

Can I give myself testosterone at home?

The online programs discussed here advertise medication for home use, and your clinician explains the prescribed plan. Male Excel describes daily injections or twice-daily cream. Low T Center offers pre-filled syringes after initial clinic care and a telehealth planning visit.

Which alternatives work in Mississippi or Idaho?

Hone Health lists both states for its Plus and Premium TRT plans. Male Excel excludes both. Ageless has no telemedicine in Mississippi.

Do I need new blood work to switch?

Each provider decides what new testing it needs. TRT Nation's pages differ between typically 120 days and up to six months for outside labs. Ask before paying.

Is Ageless Men's Health legit?

It's a real clinic chain with 84 clinic listings in 21 states and a published list of partner pharmacies. For its full record and patient experience, read our Ageless Men's Health review.

Is Ageless Men's Health the same as AgelessRx?

No. Ageless Men's Health runs in-person clinics. AgelessRx is a separate online company. "Ageless Male" is a supplement, not prescription testosterone.

What happens to online TRT after December 31, 2026?

The current federal rule that allows video prescribing without a prior in-person exam ends then, unless it's extended or replaced. Ask each provider how it will handle your care in 2027.
