Cost Plus TRT Alternatives: Find the Right Fix for Why It Didn't Work

The best Cost Plus TRT alternatives depend on what needs to change: Male Excel for a compounded-cream option or different state coverage, and TRT Nation, AlphaMD or Vyta for a lower published price. Cost Plus starts at $119/month for new patients. Insurance, fertility plans and the full lab bill can change the best next step.

Best for: U.S. adult men comparing care for suspected or diagnosed testosterone deficiency, including current Cost Plus TRT patients considering a transfer. Not for you if: you need a diagnosis from this page, urgent care, gender-affirming care, or treatment for athletic performance. Near-term fertility plans call for a fertility-focused clinician before a clinic shortlist.

At published prices, Cost Plus TRT's new-patient program has a $1,428 base subtotal for 12 months, before extra testing or other add-ons. Male Excel's published injection-plus-thyroid package and required membership total $2,727 before shipping under the same 12-month model. Male Excel is not the low-price substitute. 2 8

So before you switch, know what you're buying with the extra money. That may be access in your state, a different treatment format, or a different follow-up model. If you don't need any of those, you may not need an alternative at all. A lower-cost written quote can also be a valid reason to compare.

And there's one cheaper-looking option where the savings can disappear once you add labs. We'll show you the math.

Jump to your reason: My state isn't covered · I want it cheaper · I don't want shots · I want more doctor time · I want kids soon · I want to use insurance · I'm switching now

TRT Provider Guide is the independent decision resource for testosterone replacement therapy — helping U.S. adults understand how low testosterone is evaluated, compare online and local care models and providers, and choose the next step that fits their health needs, fertility plans, budget, state, and care preferences, with every material claim verified and dated.

Educational information, not medical advice. If you have chest pain, shortness of breath, or other urgent symptoms, get urgent or emergency care, not a telehealth visit.

How do Cost Plus TRT alternatives compare at a glance?

Cost Plus has a low published base price, but a useful comparison also needs the state, testing, treatment format and payment terms. The figures below are provider-stated offers, not complete quotes or a ranking of medical quality.

These figures are our arithmetic from each company's published prices, with assumptions explained in the cost section. They are not quotes. Sources: Cost Plus, Male Excel, Hone, TRT Nation, AlphaMD and its consultation offer.

Also worth checking: Vyta's TRT-specific page lists Florida, Michigan and Ohio and a $109/month home-delivery plan with labs, visits, medication and supplies. That is a $1,308 published-price subtotal over 12 months, not a verified bill. Its home-delivery testosterone is described as compounded. Taurus's $49 entry offer and $149/month treatment price need to be read alongside its separate general membership terms. 26 23 24

What we actually verified — October 13, 2026: We read the providers' public pricing, program, state and policy pages, checked official medical and federal-rule sources, and recalculated the cost and state tables. Prices, access and service promises remain provider-stated; we did not test care, complete checkout, or audit individual licenses. The verification record identifies the material gaps.

The right TRT provider is not the same for every person — it depends on whether low testosterone has been properly evaluated, your symptoms and health history, your fertility plans, your state, your insurance or cash-pay preference, your treatment-format preference, your budget, and whether online or in-person care is the better starting point. Some situations belong with primary care, urology, endocrinology, reproductive urology, or urgent or emergency care when the symptoms warrant it. Because a general answer cannot resolve those for you, use TRT Provider Guide's Find My TRT Path tool to map your situation to the right care route and the questions to ask before you pay.

It's free and educational. It doesn't diagnose low testosterone or guarantee a prescription. Review our privacy policy before using it; do not enter identifying medical information.

Which Cost Plus TRT alternative fits your reason for leaving?

The right replacement for Cost Plus TRT depends on the problem you're trying to fix: your state, the cost, the treatment format, how often you see a clinician, fertility, or insurance. Each problem points to a different option. If your care meets your needs and another offer solves no specific problem, you do not need to switch.

Find your row. Then read that section.

Should you just stay with Cost Plus TRT?

Staying with Cost Plus TRT may make sense when it serves your state, your clinician-approved injection plan fits its pricing, and its follow-up meets your needs. Its new-patient base price is $119/month with initial and 10-week labs. That is not proof it is the cheapest complete care plan, especially where Vyta's $109 offer is available.

Here's what Cost Plus TRT actually sells, straight from its program page on October 13, 2026.

Cost Plus TRT alternatives table 3: Should you just stay with Cost Plus TRT?
Cost Plus TRT plan Monthly price First payment What's in it 12-month base subtotal
Transfer, bring your own labs $89 $178 (2 months) Testosterone cypionate up to 160 mg/week, supplies, 2-day shipping, initial visit, visit every 6 months, messaging. You supply all labs. $1,068 + your labs
Transfer, needs labs $119 $238 (2 months) Same, plus initial labs $1,428 before later tests and other extras
New to TRT $119 $297.50 (2.5 months) Same, plus initial labs at Quest and follow-up labs at 10 weeks $1,428 before later tests and other extras

Provider-stated program details, not a dose recommendation. The 160 mg/week figure is a published price allowance, not a target or advice to change treatment. A 10-week monitoring test is not the same as a second morning test to confirm a diagnosis before treatment. 1 2 37

Two quick notes so you don't misread the bill. The first payment is not a fee on top. It covers your first two or two-and-a-half months at the same rate. And Cost Plus also lists separate à la carte prices on its "Build Your TRT Plan" page: $49 for labs, $91 per provider visit, and $78.19 per quarter for testosterone. It doesn't say exactly what each item includes. For an à la carte comparison, ask for that quote in writing. Confirm eligibility for it, the supply period, the exact lab panel and any shipping charge. 4

What Cost Plus charges extra for: a clinician-approved dose above its 160 mg/week price allowance and additional labs; the extra amounts are not published on the plan page. It also lists an estrogen blocker when indicated, but does not establish a separate price for it there. Ask for the cost of every prescribed add-on; availability does not mean it is needed. 1

When staying makes sense: your state is covered, your current care meets your needs, and an alternative has not shown a lower complete quote or a specific service you need. You do not have to switch just because another clinic advertises a smaller monthly number.

When it doesn't: keep reading. The rest of this page is built around the reasons it might not.

Cost Plus TRT isn't in my state. Where can I go instead?

Cost Plus TRT lists 16 states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington. Of the other 34 states, Male Excel lists 24. The state table compares published lists, not clinical eligibility or every online clinic in the country.

State access can rule an option out before price matters. Cost Plus's own FAQ says it serves "most US states." Its telehealth consent form and About page both name 16. We use the explicit list and advise confirming current access before paying. 3 5 6

We put Cost Plus's list side by side with Male Excel, Hone Health and TRT Nation, then added Vyta's TRT-specific list. Here is the comparison for the 34 states absent from Cost Plus's list; these groupings refer to Male Excel, Hone and TRT Nation:

  • 17 states have Male Excel, Hone and TRT Nation all available: California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
  • 5 states have Male Excel and TRT Nation, but not Hone: Delaware, Kansas, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.
  • 5 states list TRT Nation but not Male Excel or Hone: Connecticut, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
  • Missouri: Male Excel and Hone. Mississippi: Hone and TRT Nation. North Dakota: Male Excel; TRT Nation's pages disagree. Hawaii: Hone Plus only.
  • 3 states are absent from all four lists: Alabama, Alaska and Arkansas. Vyta's TRT-specific list also omits them. This does not establish that every online option excludes those states.

One more wrinkle. If you're in Idaho, Cost Plus and Hone list your state, but Male Excel excludes it. 6 10 14

Sources checked October 13, 2026: Cost Plus TRT consent and About; Male Excel FAQ; Hone's plan-specific state table; TRT Nation homepage and additional FAQ; Vyta's TRT page. A ✅ means the provider lists the state. A — means it is excluded or absent from the list used; neither symbol establishes individual eligibility. Washington, D.C. is not settled by these lists, so ask before you pay.

Two limits to the map: TRT Nation's homepage excludes North Dakota, while its separate 2026 FAQ omits that exclusion. We mark North Dakota unclear rather than picking the more favorable answer. AlphaMD and Taurus do not have a complete TRT-specific state list verified in the pages reviewed, so they are not coded as available or unavailable in the table.

Our counts are 16 for Cost Plus, 39 for Male Excel, 35 for Hone Plus and 34 for Hone Premium. Hone's two men's plans cover 36 distinct states between them. TRT Nation's homepage implies 44, subject to the North Dakota conflict; Vyta's TRT page lists 3.

What "Plus only" and "Premium only" mean: Hone sells two men's plans, and they don't cover the same states. In New York you can only get Premium. In Hawaii and South Dakota you can only get Plus. Check the plan, not just the brand name.

What if no online option lists my state?

If you're in Alabama, Alaska or Arkansas, local primary care or urology is a practical starting point while you check any other provider's state-specific requirements. The table does not prove online care is unavailable statewide. Our guide to online vs. local TRT care explains how that works, and Find My TRT Path can help you prepare the right questions.

Can I use an address in a state Cost Plus covers?

No. The clinician has to be licensed or otherwise legally allowed to treat you where you physically are during the visit. That's according to the federal Department of Health and Human Services. Testosterone is also a Schedule III controlled substance, which means it's a prescription drug with extra federal rules. A borrowed address isn't a workaround. It can put your care at risk. 31 32 33

Does "my state is listed" mean I'll be approved?

No. A state list only tells you the company says it can treat people there. You still need labs, a health history and a clinician who decides treatment is right for you. Male Excel's own site also says your plan "may require an in-person medical exam" depending on DEA and state law. 9 11

Which Cost Plus TRT alternatives actually cost less?

TRT Nation and AlphaMD list lower base treatment prices than Cost Plus's $119 new-patient plan, and Vyta advertises a $109 plan with labs and home delivery in three states. But required tests, consultation fees, pharmacy charges and payment commitments can change the result. Compare your actual plan, not the lowest number on each homepage.

Here's every option put on a 12-month price basis, with the missing costs kept visible. This makes the arithmetic comparable; it does not make the care packages identical.

How we calculated: 12 months at each published rate, plus the stated starting charges. An initial multi-month purchase is counted once, not added again as a fee. We exclude promotion codes, unknown taxes and unquoted charges rather than treating them as zero. Sources: Cost Plus, TRT Nation prices and labs, AlphaMD rates and consultation, Vyta, Taurus, Hone Premium, Hone Plus and its test schedule, Male Excel.

A 12-month subtotal is not necessarily the cash charged in your first 365 days. A multi-month refill bought near year-end can pay for supply used in the next year. Ask for actual charge dates, supply periods, renewal prices and any separately billed membership. Missing costs are not zero, and differences between these partial totals are not verified savings.

The TRT Nation math after adding labs

TRT Nation's $99.99 looks like it beats Cost Plus's $119 by about $20 a month. But Cost Plus's new-patient price includes two lab draws: your first panel and a check at 10 weeks. TRT Nation's price doesn't include any. Its TRT bloodwork panel is $129. 2 19 20

Add two panels to TRT Nation and you get $1,457.88. That's about $30 more than Cost Plus's $1,428 base subtotal, not less. Add a third and it's $1,586.88. These are cost scenarios, not proof that two or three panels meet your needs or that Cost Plus has no further lab charges.

That doesn't make TRT Nation a bad choice. Accepted outside bloodwork can reduce what you pay for new tests. But its homepage and additional FAQ say up to six months, while another FAQ says typically within 120 days. Get your actual results accepted before relying on that saving. 18 44 45

Its published monitoring includes a check around 10 weeks and later testing; the pages differ on the ongoing intervals. Its additional FAQ describes another check six months after the 10-week check, then annually, while its process article describes six-monthly testing once stable. Confirm the schedule and total number of paid tests for your case. State access may matter more than the price difference, but the North Dakota conflict still needs a direct answer. 43 45

The AlphaMD catch

AlphaMD's $98 a month is real, but you pay it for a 12-month commitment. Paid monthly, it's $129 with a three-month minimum. That's more than Cost Plus's $119 base rate. The annual plan is $1,176 in plan charges; six-month billing is $654 per payment; monthly billing has a $387 minimum commitment. 21

The consultation amount is published: AlphaMD describes a $49 first consultation with a home testosterone test. Adding that gives $1,225, $1,357 or $1,597 over 12 months at its three plan rates. A current transfer-offer page also calls $49 the regular consultation price, but its promotional code was not tested and is excluded from our totals. 41 42

Its first-test offer does not cover every later blood test. AlphaMD's lab-order guide says required tests and their prices appear in the order, with a separate option to use an insurance requisition. Coverage then depends on your plan. We did not verify a complete state list in the reviewed pages. Before you prepay a year, read its terms on what happens if a clinician decides treatment isn't right for you. Its terms describe a 72-hour membership refund window only when no services have been requested or rendered. 22 47

Why generic testosterone looks so cheap at the pharmacy

GoodRx lists a testosterone cypionate coupon offer as low as about $24, against an average retail price of $49.62 for its displayed common prescription (checked October 13, 2026). That is a prescription-price example, not a month's supply, your pharmacy quote or a complete care cost. So why does any program cost $100 or more a month? 29

Because a medication-only price leaves out evaluation and ongoing care. What you're paying a clinic for can include the prescriber, the lab work, the follow-up and the convenience; check which are actually bundled. You still need a valid prescription. An insurance-based clinician and pharmacy may cost less for your situation, but you need their real charges and your benefits to know. See the insurance section.

Vyta: a lower published plan price, but only three TRT states

Vyta's TRT-specific page lists Florida, Michigan and Ohio, not the broader set of states associated with its general services. It describes $109/month for home delivery with labs, physician visits, medication, supplies and shipping, or $89/month plus medication filled at your pharmacy. The $109 offer is $120 below Cost Plus's $1,428 base subtotal over 12 months, before any individual extras are confirmed. 26

The home-delivery option is described as compounded testosterone cypionate. The pharmacy-pickup option describes a manufactured product, but the exact prescription label still matters; one is not evidence of approval for the other. Vyta names Strive Pharmacy in Tampa as a fulfillment partner. Ask which pharmacy and product would be assigned to you. This is a provider disclosure, not our pharmacy-license audit. 26 48 34

Vyta lists ongoing labs every 3–6 months, an initial video visit and further contact as needed. Its page does not clearly price a separate repeat morning diagnostic test; confirm that before calling the offer complete. Its terms provide cancellation at the end of the billing cycle and no partial subscription refund, with exceptions when stated; the TRT offer states a refund when its physician finds treatment inappropriate. 26 49

In Florida, Michigan or Ohio and comparing costs? Review Vyta's two published TRT plans →

This opens the program description, not a guarantee of eligibility, savings or uninterrupted transfer.

Bottom line on price: Do not leave a care plan that meets your needs for an unpriced promise. Do not stay solely because a comparison called Cost Plus the cheapest, either. Compare at most two realistic alternatives using the same required tests, treatment and payment period.

Build a complete quote before comparing savings

Use this checklist with your current plan and each alternative. You can copy it into your own notes without sharing personal health information here.

Cost Plus TRT alternatives table 6: Build a complete quote before comparing savings
Cost or condition What to get in writing
Entry payment Test, consultation and any prepaid treatment; which charges are separate?
Diagnosis Is repeat early-morning testing needed, accepted from elsewhere, included or separately billed?
Membership Exact charge, start date, billing interval and renewal price
Medication and supplies Exact product, pharmacy, quantity/supply period, charge and refill interval
Monitoring and contact Each required test and visit in the coming year, with any extra fees
Shipping and other charges Per-shipment charge, required add-ons and applicable taxes
Exit Minimum commitment, cancellation deadline, refunds and remaining paid supply
First 365 days Every payment expected by date, including a refill that extends beyond that year

First-year cash total = one-time charges + all membership and medication payments due in the first 365 days + separately billed tests, visits, supplies, shipping and other required charges. Do not add a prepaid treatment block twice. When a required input is missing, the result is an incomplete quote, not a savings figure.

Male Excel costs more than Cost Plus TRT. Is it worth it?

Male Excel's published injection-plus-thyroid package produces a $2,727 12-month subtotal before shipping, versus Cost Plus's $1,428 new-patient base subtotal before extras. That is about $1,300 more in this model, not a like-for-like testosterone-only quote. Compare Male Excel for its listed states, compounded-cream option or contact model—not an assumed saving.

We'll be blunt, because you deserve it. Male Excel is not the low-price substitute in this comparison. If the lowest bill is your priority, compare the complete costs first. Male Excel charges a separate $99 monthly membership; these are the published service differences to weigh:

Contract Prepay 2–2.5 months; cancel anytime No contract; cancel anytime

The published bundle is not cheaper. The question is whether you're one of the people who needs what that membership pays for, after the clinician explains the proposed treatment and its full price. 2 8 9

Male Excel is worth comparing if: it lists your state when Cost Plus does not, you need to discuss a non-injection option, or its e-visit and review model fits you better. Cost Plus also includes messaging between visits; you do not have to wait six months to send it a concern.

Skip Male Excel's compounded-cream pathway if: you need an FDA-approved topical product. Compare other care routes first if the published bundle costs more than your budget or you need insurance billing. Do not assume an injectable product is approved without its exact label.

What Male Excel's price includes, and what it doesn't

Here's Male Excel's published pricing, checked October 13, 2026:

  • $99 to start. This covers the advertised at-home lab test and provider consultation; ask whether additional diagnostic confirmation is required or separately priced.
  • $99 a month for the medical membership. It's required for treatment.
  • Medication from $120 a month for injections or $132 a month for cream, billed every other month as a 60-day supply, plus shipping.
  • Your price changes with your dose. Male Excel says dose changes can change your cost. These are provider-stated prices, not a completed checkout. 8 9

Two things to know before you sign up:

Both published packages include thyroid medication. Male Excel's advertised injection and cream packages come with thyroid tablets. Whether you need thyroid medication is a separate medical question; a bundle is not evidence that you need it. Ask the clinician, and ask what a testosterone-only plan would cost. Thyroid medication is not TRT. 8

The cream is compounded. It is not FDA-approved, which means the FDA hasn't reviewed it for safety, effectiveness or quality the way it reviews approved drugs. Male Excel's FAQ names AnazaoHealth and WellDyneRx-FL as pharmacy partners. Ask which pharmacy will fill your prescription and the exact product you'll get, including for injections. A partner name does not establish your assigned pharmacy, its license status or your product's approval. 10 34

On refunds: Male Excel's FAQ says prescription medication sales are final. It advertises a guarantee that refunds your first three months of membership fees, but only if you complete its 90-day protocol and meet its conditions. The request must be made within 30 days after that 90-day period. That covers membership, not medication, testing or shipping. Read the details on our Male Excel cancellation policy page. 10 11

I don't want injections. Which Cost Plus TRT alternative has cream or gel?

Cost Plus TRT lists testosterone cypionate injections, while Male Excel and Hone publish compounded-cream options. An FDA-approved testosterone gel is a separate product pathway to discuss with a prescriber who can send that prescription to a dispensing pharmacy. Cream, gel and oral alternatives are not interchangeable just because they involve hormones.

Cost Plus TRT alternatives table 8: I don't want injections. Which Cost Plus TRT alternative has cream or gel?
Option Injections Cream Gel Troches Product-status limit
Cost Plus TRT Cypionate listed — — — Exact approved or compounded product not established by reviewed plan page
Male Excel Listed; ask for exact product Compounded — — Cream is not FDA-approved; verify injection label separately
Hone Health Described as compounded Compounded Not listed in reviewed package Compounded Outside-pharmacy option exists; it does not guarantee a particular approved prescription
TRT Nation Cypionate listed — — — Says it sources medications from U.S. compounding pharmacies; ask for exact finished product
Vyta Cypionate: compounded home delivery or manufactured pharmacy pickup — — — Verify the actual pharmacy label; the two offers do not establish product equivalence
Clinician + pharmacy offering FDA-approved treatment Product-dependent Not an FDA-approved cream claim FDA-approved gels exist Not a compounded-troche approval claim Prescription and insurance coverage are separate decisions

Sources: Cost Plus, Male Excel, Hone's product and plan, TRT Nation FAQ, Vyta, and an FDA-approved gel label. A dash means the reviewed package did not list that format, not that no clinician anywhere could prescribe it.

Compounded cream: compare the full package, not the cream price alone

Male Excel lists its cream-plus-thyroid medication package at $132/month, plus its $99/month membership and $99 start. Hone estimates compounded cream or testosterone troches—tablets that dissolve in the mouth—at $60/month, separate from membership and initial testing. For example, Hone Premium's $1,950 subtotal plus 12 months of $60 cream is $2,670, assuming that price applies unchanged; Male Excel's advertised cream bundle is $2,871 before shipping. Those are different bundles, not proof of identical treatment or complete patient-specific costs. 8 15

FDA-approved gel: a different decision

FDA-approved gels have product-specific labels. Compounded preparations do not become FDA-approved generics because they contain testosterone. FDA advises considering an approved drug when it can meet the patient's medical needs; compounding can address needs that an approved product cannot meet. Discuss that need with the prescriber rather than selecting cream solely to avoid injections. Hone's outside-pharmacy option does not guarantee that its clinician will prescribe a requested gel. 34 17 50

What to know about creams before you switch

Testosterone you rub on your skin can expose another person through contact. The FDA-approved AndroGel label carries a boxed warning about secondary exposure, including exposure in children. Do not copy its application sites or timing instructions onto a compounded cream; get the exact cream's precautions from the prescriber and pharmacist. If you have small children at home, that's worth thinking through. Read more on our testosterone cream transfer risk page. 50

Does a different injection schedule solve the problem?

Male Excel describes daily injections using small needles. That is a provider-described format, not evidence it is easier, safer or more effective than a weekly plan; a weekly injection does not always use a larger needle. Discuss schedule preferences with the clinician rather than changing frequency yourself. Our guide to daily vs. weekly testosterone injections walks through the tradeoff. 9

Which alternative gives me more contact with a clinician?

Cost Plus TRT includes a live provider visit every six months plus secure messaging. Male Excel publishes unlimited e-visits and 60-day reviews, Hone Premium links follow-up visits to its testing schedule, and TRT Nation also advertises unlimited consultations. Those promises describe access, not appointment length, response speed or better medical care.

Cost Plus TRT alternatives table 9: Which alternative gives me more contact with a clinician?
Option Scheduled clinician contact Lab monitoring in the price Messaging
Cost Plus TRT Every 6 months First panel + 10 weeks; more as add-ons Yes
Male Excel Every 60 days + unlimited e-visits Every 6 months Unlimited
Hone Health Premium Follow-up visits with scheduled testing Initial broad panel; follow-ups at months 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24; panel contents vary Plan includes provider messaging
TRT Nation Advertises unlimited consultations and follow-ups $129 per ordered panel or accepted outside tests Yes

These are what each company says it offers. We didn't test how fast anyone replies. Cost Plus's messaging is available between scheduled visits; its six-month visit interval does not mean you must wait six months to contact it. Male Excel's structured review is not a promise of a live appointment every 60 days. 2 9 43

Hone Premium's detailed schedule lists follow-up labs at months 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24. It does not repeat every initial marker at every visit: lipid tests run every six months, and thyroid testing depends on the patient's situation. Ask what your clinician will review and how an abnormal result is handled. 51

Why follow-up matters on testosterone

Testosterone can raise your hematocrit, which is the share of your blood made up of red blood cells. It can also affect your prostate-specific antigen (PSA), a blood marker doctors watch for prostate health. Follow-up should assess symptoms, unwanted effects and the tests appropriate for the patient; prostate monitoring depends on age, risk and a discussion with the clinician. More lab checks don't guarantee better care or prove that someone acted on the results. 37 50

Blood pressure also matters. FDA required blood-pressure warning updates for testosterone products in 2025. Ask how the program checks blood pressure and handles a result that needs attention, not just how many lab markers it advertises. 35

What should I know about each Cost Plus TRT alternative?

Each alternative should solve the problem that brought you here. Male Excel offers a different state list and compounded cream, Hone publishes a detailed testing plan, and TRT Nation, AlphaMD and Vyta offer lower price points under different conditions. Taurus Meds has a low entry price but terms we couldn't fully reconcile.

Male Excel

Worth comparing for: men in Male Excel states outside Cost Plus's list, men discussing a compounded cream with a clinician, and men who value its advertised e-visit access. Watch for: its injection-plus-thyroid bundle model is $1,299 above Cost Plus's new-patient base subtotal before unquoted costs; thyroid medication is bundled into the published packages; cream is compounded; medication sales are final. These are not matched testosterone-only quotes. 8 10 States: 39 listed. Excluded: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. 10 More: Male Excel cost · Male Excel state availability

Hone Health

Worth comparing for: men who value its published lab schedule, including those in Idaho, Mississippi, Hawaii or Missouri. The plan matters: Hawaii is listed for men's Plus, not Premium. 14 Watch for: medication is billed separately from the $155 Premium membership. Hone estimates compounded injectable testosterone at $28 per vial and cream or troches at $60/month; a vial price is not a monthly treatment quote. Hone's injectable testosterone page says the product is compounded and not FDA-approved. Its plans cover different states. Its help pages also describe a lower-cost Plus plan ($135 a month with a $45 starter test), but its main pricing page presents Premium and Basic. Ask whether Plus is open to you. Its Plus pages disagree on one confirmation-test price, and two help pages disagree on when cancellation takes effect. Get your plan's charges and cancellation date in writing. 12 13 15 16 46 52 53 Also good to know: Hone lets you send a prescription to an outside pharmacy, but you still pay the membership, and Hone says it won't help with insurance processing or prior authorization. The clinician still decides what to prescribe. 17 More: Hone TRT cost · Hone Health alternatives

TRT Nation

Worth comparing for: men aged 24 or older who have results TRT Nation accepts and want to compare its $99.99 monthly-equivalent price. The minimum purchase is 2.5 months. 19 45 Watch for: labs aren't in the price ($129 per panel), and its outside-lab age limits differ: some pages say six months, while another FAQ says typically 120 days. California pricing may differ. Its homepage excludes Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Missouri and North Dakota, while another FAQ omits North Dakota from the exclusion list. Confirm North Dakota directly. It says medications come from U.S. compounding pharmacies; confirm the exact finished product and dispensing pharmacy. 18 20 44 45 More: TRT Nation cost · TRT Nation reviews · TRT Nation's site

AlphaMD

Worth comparing for: men comfortable prepaying six or 12 months at a lower monthly-equivalent rate, after the consultation and a complete written quote. Watch for: the lowest price needs a 12-month commitment. Official offer pages list the standard consultation and starter test at $49, while later lab orders can carry separate charges. We did not establish a complete current state list or the FDA status of an individual prescription from the reviewed pages. Ask before committing. 21 22 41 47 More: AlphaMD TRT cost · AlphaMD's pricing

Vyta

Worth comparing for: men in Florida, Michigan or Ohio who want to compare the $109/month compounded home-delivery program with Cost Plus's $119 new-patient base rate. Watch for: the $89 offer is a different pharmacy-pickup plan with medication billed separately. The TRT page says labs and visits are included; confirm the repeat diagnostic-test requirement and every individual charge. It names Strive Pharmacy in Tampa as a partner, but that is not an independent license check or confirmation of the exact product assigned to you. 26 48 Next step: Review Vyta's TRT-specific prices and state limits →

Taurus Meds

Worth researching, not yet a clear price winner: the $49 test-and-consultation offer describes a refund if the clinician finds treatment inappropriate. That is a conditional offer, not a guarantee of treatment or a general satisfaction refund. 23 25 Watch for: its offer page says medication is "$149/mo – all inclusive. No membership fees." Its general terms describe a recurring $17.99 membership fee per billing period. We couldn't confirm which applies to its TRT program. Its offer page also refers to "The Excel Advantage HRT program," the name Male Excel uses for its own program. That wording does not establish an ownership, clinical or pharmacy relationship between the companies. We did not verify a current TRT state list. Ask Taurus for a written fee schedule, the exact pharmacy and your state's status before paying. 23 24 9 More: Taurus Meds cost · Taurus Meds state availability

Can I use insurance instead of paying cash for TRT?

An insurance-based care plan may cost less than a cash-pay membership, but only your actual benefits and quotes can show that. The online packages compared here advertise cash prices; an in-network clinician and a covered pharmacy may offer a different path. Confirm the practice accepts your plan and the prescribed product is covered.

This is worth checking before you pay any monthly fee. A clinician's diagnosis and an insurer's coverage decision are separate: ask for the plan's actual testosterone coverage criteria and any prior-authorization requirement. Prior authorization is approval from the insurer before it will cover a service or drug; it is not a diagnosis or a guarantee of coverage for every cost. Hone expressly says it does not handle insurance processing or prior authorization for outside-pharmacy prescriptions. 17

A few things to check with your plan: whether the exact testosterone product is on your formulary, what your deductible and copay are, and whether your visits, lab and pharmacy are in-network. AlphaMD says patients may use its lab requisition with their insurance or pay its lab-order charge; that does not mean its program membership is insured. 47

Male Excel and Hone both say their services are HSA/FSA eligible. Those are provider statements, not insurance coverage; ask your account administrator which charges qualify. We did not verify an equivalent Cost Plus policy. 8 15

I want to have kids. Is any Cost Plus TRT alternative right for me?

Fertility plans should change the decision before you choose another testosterone program. Testosterone therapy can suppress sperm production, and the Endocrine Society recommends against starting it when fertility is planned in the near term. Discuss current or future plans with a urologist or reproductive urologist; an add-on is not a guarantee of protection.

Here's why. Testosterone treatment can reduce the body's signals called luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Those signals help the testicles make testosterone and sperm. Lower signals can mean lower sperm production. Nobody can promise it will or won't happen to you, or how long recovery might take. 37 39

Non-testosterone options are a separate clinical decision

Cost Plus TRT lists compounded gonadorelin and enclomiphene among its add-on options without a price in the reviewed program information. A clinic listing an add-on does not establish that it preserves fertility. These are not testosterone replacement therapy, and they're not interchangeable with it. 2 39

Enclomiphene is not FDA-approved. Clomiphene is FDA-approved for ovulatory dysfunction in women trying to become pregnant; prescribing it for men is off-label, meaning that use is outside its approved label. Prescription hCG is a different hormone: the Pregnyl label includes selected cases of deficient pituitary hormone signaling in males. Neither that indication nor adding hCG to a program guarantees preserved or restored fertility. A specialist should decide whether any non-testosterone treatment fits the cause of the problem. 40 56 57 58

So this isn't really a "which clinic" question. It's a "which kind of doctor" question.

Has your low testosterone actually been confirmed?

Low testosterone isn't diagnosed from symptoms or one blood test. Clinical guidelines call for symptoms or signs that fit, plus consistently low results on appropriate repeat early-morning testing. When the original diagnosis is unclear, a clinician-led review of the diagnosis comes before shopping for a different treatment program.

The Endocrine Society's July 2026 statement calls for at least two early-morning, fasting testosterone tests, with accurate assays—the methods labs use to measure a sample. Its guideline calls for compatible symptoms or signs, consistently low results, and suitable reference ranges. A number near 300 ng/dL is not a universal diagnosis by itself. Total testosterone is all the testosterone in your blood. Free testosterone is the small part not bound to proteins and is assessed when indicated. The Endocrine Society also recommends checking LH and FSH to help find out why levels are low. 37 38

That matters here. Cost Plus TRT's "Build Your TRT Plan" page asks outside-lab patients for total testosterone, hemoglobin, PSA and LH. Its new-patient package describes an initial panel and a 10-week follow-up. If you're new, ask which diagnostic panel you'll actually get and whether the price includes a separate confirmatory morning test before treatment. A follow-up test after treatment starts is not the same thing as confirming the original diagnosis. 4 2 38

Cost Plus TRT New-patient initial test and 10-week treatment follow-up are listed Whether a separate pretreatment confirmation test is needed and included

Hone Premium $65 initial test plus a separate $25 confirmation panel when TRT is being considered Your plan, sample timing and any required additional evaluation
Hone Plus $45 initial test; separate confirmation with conflicting $45/$50 at-lab prices or $80 at home Which test and price apply to you
TRT Nation Pays separately for labs or accepts qualifying outside results Required panel and collection method; conflicting age limits for outside results
AlphaMD $49 consultation with starter test described included; later labs can be separate Confirmation requirements, sample timing and the lab order's charge
Vyta / Taurus Meds Advertised testing inclusion or starter test does not establish every diagnostic step Whether two appropriate pretreatment samples are required, accepted and included

Sources: Cost Plus, Male Excel, Hone Premium, Hone Plus and its schedule, TRT Nation, AlphaMD and its lab process, Vyta, Taurus. An unclear public price is not proof that a clinician skips testing.

Already taking prescribed testosterone? Do not stop or change it to produce a new diagnostic sample. The receiving clinician should review your pretreatment records and decide what further evaluation is appropriate.

Seek a focused medical evaluation before choosing a program if you have a history of prostate or breast cancer, a high red blood cell count, untreated severe sleep apnea, a recent heart attack or stroke, or signs of a pituitary or testicular problem. Primary care can help arrange the right specialist and any needed in-person assessment. These situations need more than a price comparison. 37

Is Cost Plus TRT legit, or is that a reason to leave?

Cost Plus TRT has active public program pages and names its founding physician, but that is not an independent audit of its care or licenses. Its documents contain differences worth resolving, and TeleRanked discloses an ownership tie on its Cost Plus profile. Those facts support specific questions, not a blanket claim that the clinic is unsafe or that another clinic is better.

Here's what we found on Cost Plus TRT's own pages, its company-issued launch announcement and TeleRanked, checked October 13, 2026:

Cost Plus TRT alternatives table 11: Is Cost Plus TRT legit, or is that a reason to leave?
Topic One place says Another place says
States FAQ: "most US states" Telehealth consent and About page: 16 named states
Phone Site footer: 720-291-8485 Telehealth consent form: 1-888-555-0123; we did not call either number
Testing information "Build Your TRT Plan" names total testosterone, hemoglobin, PSA and LH for outside results The new-patient package lists initial and 10-week testing without establishing that a second pretreatment morning sample is included
Physician credential descriptions About page: double board-certified addiction psychiatrist Same page's review credit: board-certified internal medicine; neither description was independently checked against certification records
Outside rating TeleRanked rates Cost Plus 4.4/5 TeleRanked's profile says "a partner in TeleRanked has an ownership stake in Cost Plus TRT" and the listing is "managed by Cost Plus TRT"
Price history Company-issued October 13, 2025 launch announcement: $199 for 3 months, with stated inclusions Current new-patient package: $119/month; the historical offer is not a verified like-for-like annual price or a quote available today

None of this proves anything is wrong with the care. But the differences do mean you should get important answers in writing. The lab descriptions may concern different entry paths; ask which applies to you rather than assuming they are the same panel. We did not verify an independent accreditation or board-certification record for this comparison. 2 3 4 5 6 59

And when you read "Cost Plus TRT alternatives" lists elsewhere, check who wrote them. TeleRanked's profile discloses the ownership tie and says Cost Plus manages the listing; it also says the relationship does not change its scoring. The reviewed alternatives page does not repeat that ownership disclosure. This is context for assessing its rating, not proof that the rating was bought. 27 28

Is Cost Plus TRT part of Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs? Do not treat the similar name as proof of a connection. How do I switch from Cost Plus TRT and reduce the risk of a gap?

Get your records and recent labs first, then ask the receiving clinician how to coordinate the handoff before ending your current care. A new clinician has to make their own decision and may need new tests, so a transfer does not guarantee uninterrupted treatment. Don't stop or change your medication on your own to fit a billing date.

  1. Request your records and lab results from Cost Plus TRT. Ask in writing, including for the pretreatment results, medication history and current monitoring plan. HHS explains the right to access records held by HIPAA-covered providers; Cost Plus's consent also describes access as provided by law. Ask about the format, fee and expected delivery date. 36 6
  2. Check what the new provider needs. Ask exactly which tests, how old results may be, and whether the collection method is accepted. TRT Nation's public pages differ between six months and typically 120 days, so get an answer for your records. 44 45
  3. Discuss the new intake before your current supply runs out. Leave time for labs, a consultation and shipping. Tell both clinicians about the current prescription and any supply concern; do not arrange overlapping prescriptions without their knowledge.
  4. Check both billing dates. Cost Plus advertises an initial two- or two-and-a-half-month purchase, depending on the plan. Confirm your actual renewal terms and when the paid period ends rather than assuming every refill uses that same cycle. 2
  5. Confirm the end of current care and billing in writing after the clinicians have agreed on the handoff. Cost Plus's FAQ says you can pause or cancel anytime. Cancel-anytime isn't the same as a refund for a block you've already paid for, so ask. 3 7
  6. Talk to your new clinician about the handoff. Whether and how to change treatment is their call, with you.

Cost Plus TRT Initial purchase of 2–2.5 months Says no long-term contract; pause or cancel anytime; consultation refunds depend on whether services were rendered
Male Excel None Cancel anytime; medication sales final; membership guarantee with conditions
Hone Health Month to month Cancel anytime; two help pages differ on whether cancellation takes effect immediately or at period end
TRT Nation 2.5-month minimum purchase Cancellation policy reserves a no-refund/no-return position; public enrollment separately describes a full refund when patient and clinician decide treatment is inappropriate
AlphaMD 3, 6 or 12 months Limited 72-hour membership refund window when no services have been requested or rendered; read the purchased plan's terms
Taurus Meds Confirm TRT-specific term General policy requires 72 hours' notice before the next billing date; treatment-specific offer and general fees need reconciliation
Vyta Recurring subscription General terms say cancellation ends future renewal; no prorated refund for the current period unless a stated exception applies

What do the telehealth rules mean for switching in 2026?

The current federal temporary extension runs through December 31, 2026; it is not a promise about January 2027. It permits qualifying controlled-substance prescribing without a prior in-person exam when the rule's conditions are met. A state listing or an online questionnaire alone does not satisfy those conditions. 30 31

The Ryan Haight Act generally requires an in-person medical evaluation for this kind of online controlled-substance prescribing unless an exception applies. Under the current temporary pathway, testosterone prescribing without that prior exam requires a qualifying live, two-way audio-video consultation, a legitimate medical purpose, and compliance with applicable federal and state law. An audio-only allowance for certain other treatment is not a general testosterone exception. 30 31

The prescriber must have the required authority to treat you where you are physically located, and state rules or your medical needs can still require an in-person visit. We did not establish a final post-2026 framework from the official sources reviewed, so this comparison does not promise what every clinic can offer after the deadline. 30 32

This isn't a reason to rush. It's a reason to ask any provider one question: "What's your plan for patients in January 2027?" Check the current HHS and DEA guidance again before relying on a future no-in-person care plan.

What did we actually verify?

We checked public documents and recalculated the tables; we did not evaluate patients or test treatment. A provider-stated fact is something its own document says, not proof that every patient receives that service.

Verification date: October 13, 2026.

Provider documents checked: Cost Plus TRT's pricing, program, FAQ, Build Your TRT Plan, About, terms and telehealth consent; Male Excel's costs, online program, FAQ and guarantee; Hone's plan prices, product disclosures, state list, lab schedules, outside-pharmacy policy, billing and cancellation pages; TRT Nation's prices, lab orders, multiple FAQs, process, cancellation and public enrollment terms; AlphaMD's rates, consultation offers, lab process and terms; Taurus's $49 offer, general terms and refunds; and Vyta's TRT-specific page, pharmacy notice and terms. The numbered sources below identify the exact documents.

Other sources checked: FDA product and compounding information, official prescribing labels, HHS and DEA rules, the Endocrine Society's guideline and July 2026 statement, AUA/ASRM infertility guidance, and government and specialist information on non-testosterone therapies. TeleRanked was used only for its own published rating and relationship disclosures. GoodRx was used for a pharmacy coupon example, and Cost Plus's company-issued launch release for historical context—not for medical evidence.

Provider-stated, not independently confirmed: every price, inclusion, state list, guarantee, pharmacy name and clinician-access promise on this page.

Our calculations: 12-month published-price subtotals, specific lab-cost scenarios and the 50-state comparison. These come from each company's published figures; full first-year cash costs remain incomplete when mandatory charges or billing dates are unknown. We did not count an initial prepayment twice.

What we could not confirm:

  • The exact finished testosterone product and assigned dispensing pharmacy for an individual Cost Plus, Male Excel injection, TRT Nation, AlphaMD or Vyta pharmacy-pickup prescription; a compounding-pharmacy relationship alone does not settle every product's approval status
  • What Cost Plus's à la carte prices include, and whether new patients can use them
  • Which Taurus fee applies to its TRT program, its current state list, and why its offer uses the "Excel Advantage" name; no corporate or clinical connection was established
  • AlphaMD's complete current state list and individual later-lab charges; the standard $49 consultation reference was found
  • Hone's individual medication bill, availability of Plus for a new applicant, conflicting Plus confirmation-test charges and the exact moment cancellation takes effect
  • Male Excel's exact day-one checkout charge, shipping and any testosterone-only quote
  • TRT Nation's North Dakota access, outside-lab age limit and conflicting ongoing testing schedules
  • Complete refund outcomes, patient-specific refill deadlines and future rules after December 31, 2026

Our method: How We Review TRT Providers. Our editorial standards explain how we handle evidence and corrections. Found something out of date? Tell us.

How did we choose these Cost Plus TRT alternatives?

We started from the reasons men can't or won't use Cost Plus TRT, then compared the providers' published prices, states, formats and terms. We included public-information options beyond our commercial partners, because leaving a relevant alternative out would make this page worse.

We looked at state coverage outside Cost Plus's 16 states, treatment formats, clinician access, published costs and missing charges, whether each company says its testosterone is compounded or FDA-approved, and commitment and cancellation terms. We didn't score anyone or rank medical quality. Being listed here isn't an endorsement. A useful fit judgment must follow from a stated need and the evidence—not a commission or the number of laboratory markers advertised.

We'd change our picks if a provider's state list, prices or formats change, or if a provider answers one of the open questions above.

What else should I know about Cost Plus TRT alternatives?

These answers summarize the main tradeoffs in this comparison. A listed state, a published price or an online assessment does not guarantee acceptance, a prescription, insurance coverage or savings.

What are the best Cost Plus TRT alternatives?

It depends on why you're leaving. Compare Male Excel for a listed state Cost Plus lacks or a compounded-cream option; TRT Nation, AlphaMD or Vyta for the applicable lower published price; and Hone for its detailed lab schedule. For insurance, check an in-network clinician and pharmacy. For fertility, start with a urologist or reproductive urologist. The tables above show each limit.

What states does Cost Plus TRT serve?

Sixteen: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington, per its telehealth consent form checked October 13, 2026. This is a published service list, not an individual eligibility decision. 6

Is anything cheaper than Cost Plus TRT?

Some published subtotals are lower. Vyta's $109 home-delivery plan is $1,308 over 12 months in Florida, Michigan and Ohio, and AlphaMD's annual plan plus its standard $49 consultation is $1,225 before later labs. TRT Nation is $1,199.88 before labs, or $1,457.88 in a two-panel example. Compare these with Cost Plus's $1,428 new-patient base subtotal, not a claimed complete annual bill. 26 21 41 19 20 2

Does Cost Plus TRT offer testosterone cream?

The reviewed Cost Plus program lists testosterone cypionate injections, not cream. Male Excel and Hone Health publish compounded-cream options; those are not FDA-approved gels. 2 10 15

Is Cost Plus TRT owned by Mark Cuban?

Cost Plus TRT says it borrowed the pricing idea from Cost Plus Drugs. That is not an ownership disclosure, and the reviewed statement does not establish that Mark Cuban owns the TRT program. Do not treat the shared words in the names as proof of a partnership. 5

Do any Cost Plus TRT alternatives take insurance?

The compared online memberships advertise cash prices. Some outside lab or pharmacy charges may be handled separately: AlphaMD describes using a lab requisition with insurance, and Hone permits outside dispensing without assisting with insurance processing. Ask an in-network clinician and your insurer about a covered care plan. HSA/FSA eligibility is not insurance coverage. 47 17

What if I live in Alabama, Alaska or Arkansas?

The verified lists in our state table do not include Alabama, Alaska or Arkansas. We did not verify full state lists for AlphaMD or Taurus, so this does not mean no online care exists there. A local primary care doctor or urologist is a practical starting point; any remote clinic must confirm your state before payment.

Can I switch from Cost Plus TRT to Male Excel?

You can ask to transfer if Male Excel lists your state, but acceptance is not automatic. Bring your records and recent labs. Male Excel's clinician makes their own decision about testing and treatment; the state list does not guarantee the same prescription or an uninterrupted supply. 9 10

Is the testosterone from these alternatives FDA-approved?

Male Excel calls its cream compounded; Hone labels its listed injection, cream and troches compounded; and Vyta describes compounded home-delivery testosterone. TRT Nation identifies compounding-pharmacy sourcing, which does not establish the status of every finished product. For any prescription, ask for the exact product, its approval status and the dispensing pharmacy. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. 10 13 15 26 44 34

Does Cost Plus TRT include hCG?

hCG is not listed in the reviewed Cost Plus program. It lists compounded gonadorelin and enclomiphene options without a published price there; that does not prove hCG is never available or that these alternatives preserve fertility. Ask a fertility-focused clinician rather than treating the add-ons as interchangeable. 2 39

Will I need an in-person visit?

Possibly. The current temporary federal pathway runs through December 31, 2026 and has conditions, including live audio-video care for this testosterone pathway. State law and medical needs can still require an in-person evaluation. Male Excel itself says an in-person exam may be required. 30 31 9

Is TeleRanked's Cost Plus TRT rating independent?

TeleRanked's own Cost Plus profile says a TeleRanked partner has an ownership stake in Cost Plus TRT and that Cost Plus manages the listing. It also says that relationship does not affect its scoring. Read the rating with that disclosure; we did not independently audit its ranking process. 27

This page is educational information, not medical advice. Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance in the United States and requires a valid prescription and clinician supervision. Chest pain or sudden trouble breathing needs emergency assessment; a clinic-shopping page is not the place to manage urgent symptoms. 33 50
